Forced therapy on anybody is not right. I do believe homosexuals can change but they have to want to change or it will never happen. Jesus can make it happen.

yes, i do not stand by forcing someone to do anything, without a legal conviction.

and i have not seen this conversion being forced on anyone.

I think some of you guys are having ancient religions beliefs cloud your thinking.

When I woke up this morning, I didn't have a choice of whether I was going to be attracted to men or women. I was attracted to women. It just was. It has always been this way. I didn't get to make that choice. Whatever caused this in me, I had no control over it. Editing to add, that if some of you are really honest with yourselves you'll see that you didn't have a choice in the matter either.

There is really nothing wrong with homosexuality or a transsexual person. Remember, it is only your outdated religions that have brainwashed you to think this. Evolve, please.

Why do people constantly need to evoke God when discussing homosexuality? If one chooses to believe in an invisible all powerful friend, that is their business. If a person is gay, what does that have to do with religion, especially seeing as we don't live in a theocratic society, unlike say Iran, or Saudi Arabia?

I have known many gay (and bi) people in my life, and every single one has told me they were aware of their sexual preference from a young age; they never 'chose' to be gay. Why people are so wrapped up in the business of others, that they want to change them is beyond me.

You can NOT cure someone of Homosexuality anymore than you can cure someone of Pedophilia!! Its genetic. Its the way someone is born. They are part of that persons DNA!! period!

You are attracted to who you are attracted too! That is all!

I know you are coming from a place of love, but the truth is ugly. People are forced into reparative therapy. My own family tried to force me into it. It was only because I was a minor and the doctors looking after me after my suicide attempt (for being gay) threatened to make me a ward of the state they backed down.

Too often, young people are forced to undergo Conversion Therapy by parents and ministers who refuse to accept that they are gay. Parents need to understand that being gay is ok and that their child was created this way in God’s eyes. While some religions wrongfully condemn homosexuality, many embrace it and believe it is part of God’s natural order.

Despite the fact I get cranky with the fundie type christians, I acknowledge that there are many wonderful loving and grounded ones out there too. In fact I was helped out of my misery by non judgemental christians who showed me the true face of Christ.

I don't think therapy will work any better than therapy for being over weight, drinking or being a pedo-vile but it sure does not help telling school kids to try it out incase they like it.

The arguement that "God made them this way" and he does not make mistakes would also need to apply to anyone that commits murder too if thats the case not that I am religious.

I am not homophopic because I don't fear gays but I was born free and givern the right to decide what groups of people I like and don't like and these are my view on therapy

Nobody is born a murderer. Murder is always the result of a conscious decision such as seeking revenge, wanting to rob someone and it gets out of hand etc etc.

There is no such decision to be gay. Choosing to have sex is a conscious decision, but the gender one is attracted to is not.

They may have took my post down for being as ATS calls it 'Ill mannered". It may have been in ATS's terms ill mannered.....in my mind it was the pure & simple truth.

can't take place. To what extent genetics, nurturing, xenoestrogens, sexual imprinting, etc,
shape a person's sexuality simply isn't known. Honest research is

Not enough is know about the causes of this
condition. If a person is uncomfortable with their sexuality, they
should be allowed to explore options. If therapists aren't honest
about outcomes including side effects, that is wrong. If they trade one "symptom" for
another, thats bad. It happens with a lot of other treatments, too. Should we forbid
all therapy?

Political pressure from Heterophobes shouldn't bring premature banning.

If you can cure someone from homosexuality. Does that mean you can turn someone into a homosexual?

I believe sexual preference is a product of the mind, and the mind can be altered physically, chemically, and psychologically both permanently and temporarily, and affect ones sexual preference and many other characteristics.

From the moment the brain is developed in the mothers womb, and all through life, many genetic and environmental factors will decide the state of the mind. Drugs, trauma, stress, malnutrition, chemical imbalance, childhood upbringing, culture, peer pressure, etc. can all contribute to what the brain likes or dislikes, loves or hates, desires or fears, attracts or repels.

While most homosexuals are born homosexual, it is completely possible for someone who was born heterosexual to turn homosexual. There are many documented cases of this happening after heavy drug use and trauma which physically and chemically altered the brain. It is easy for people to claim "they were always homosexual, they just didn't know it", but in many cases that is just not true, and is just an excuse to hide the real truth of the ability to alter the mind.

It is equally possible to turn a homosexual into a heterosexual, but because of the sensitivity of this topic I will not talk much about this. In short, the human race is better at destroying, not repairing. So it is easier to turn a heterosexual into a homosexual through damage, but more difficult to turn a homosexual into a heterosexual through repair. Homosexuality should be considered a mental deformity, but because of political correctness, and to not make homosexuals feel less equal, and because of other agendas, there is a push to make it normal and acceptable in humanity. Something to not be "treated" like other mental illnesses are.
