I have had so many cats through the years. Always wanted a main coon, they are so big and fluffy and beautiful! Some cats are pretty smart. I had this one tortoiseshell cat and when I would leave my door open and run downstairs to visit Mom, one day she was behind me and I didn't know it. I was sitting at Mom's and we heard someone trying to open the door. We kept saying come in and no one was coming in. I opened the door and there she was. She waltzed in and joined us. LOL. I caught her once jumping at the doorknob trying to get a door open! She would open a bottom draw of my bureau and burrow into the clothes. I thought I forgot to close the draw so closed it. After a while I would hear her meowing and wonder where the hell she was. Followed her cries to the damned draw. LOL She would also fetch little balls. We would roll up little balls of foil, throw it and she would go get it and drop it at our feet. We'd throw it again and again and she would keep bringing it back waiting for us to throw it. LOL

She is a he. I let a friend babysit him right before I retired from the Army and his G/F really bonded with him and didn't want to let him go. (That happened often with others as well, he is a devious charmer)

And since I didn't know at the time where my life was taking me, I let the Cat adopt them. He now has a fellow buddy cat that he gets to beat up from time to time. It's pretty funny to watch as the other cat is a bitty little thing and here ya have this monster saying, "Let's Play!"

You can just hear the little cat saying, "Get away from me ya big oaf!"

Diesel takes after his Dad. I'm proud.

Hahahahaha! Cute! I had a ferret once who tired out my two cats. Ferrets spend most of their time sleeping but when they are awake, they are relentless with boundless energy. It was funny as hell. At first the cats were all for it and having a ball, after a while it was like Good God, leave me alone!

He was always purring. A loud rumble. So loud that he would wake me up every day at 5am. He'd sit on my chest and stare at me doing his rumble and when I opened my eyes he'd touch his paw to my nose and then lean down eye to eye with me. "Get up Dad...I'm hungry." If I ignored him, he'd then gently bite my nose and them touch it again with his paw, over and over until I relented.

He does it with his new family as well.

I miss having him around. While I consider myself a Dawg guy, he was the coolest cat I've ever known.

I miss having cats. I don't dare get one now because I don't know how much longer I will be here and most places won't allow pets. Plus the cost of vets and litter and food while we are struggling to pay our own medical bills. To look at he brighter side, I don't have to carry heavy litter and I don't get fur all over my clothes and the whole house. LOL

Still, I need pets in my life and chose easy care ones like my turtle, fish and Rat. The fish are nice as there are so many you can choose from, you just have to know which ones can be kept in the same tank. I did have a lady at one pet store say I can't put tiger barbs and guppies together. I have been all along and they get along great. I like the fancy guppies as there are so many colors and designs. I have pale blues with a navy blue almost black on him, yellow with orange combo, black and orange combo, etc. There is still a neon alive and kicking in there and my weird looking algae eater with whiskers. He kind of fascinates me and scares me at the same time. LOL

I've kind of looked at fish tanks as screensavers when you don't have a computer.
Something to stare at.

I've always thought they were cool, but just not for me.

I guess that I'm just one of those guys that has to interact with animals, rather than just feeding them. I had a G/F at one time who was all into Snakes and Tarantulas. Never understood that.

Thanks for the heads up AB. I may be able to wrap my grey matter around this one. We'll see.

Oh I would much prefer a fuzzy cuddly animal of some sort myself. Ferrets are cool, but as a rule, don't have very long life spans. It is also vital that you ferret proof the whole house. I always had cats, one to three at a time. The times I had three was usually when I rescued another cat. Dogs can poop and pee in the house and that is a huge turn off for me. Plus I wouldn't be able to walk them for very long or very far. I'm too lazy to own a dog. LOL Always thought it would be nice to have a white husky or something if I did have a dog. Then again there are so many breeds of cute little lap dogs. But cats rule!

Snakes are ok, but usually people pick the ones that get HUGE and can no longer manage them. I think snakes should be kept in the wild where they belong. Tarantulas well, that's a spider and a really big one...no thanks! LOL

One of the best moments in my life was when I was giving a PT test to a colleague of mine. The last event was the two mile run. I started the stop watch and she took off. Now mind you, this was a Reserve Unit and not a military base, so our track was the Cleveland Metro parks.

Upon her return (one mile up, one mile back) she witnessed me, a Doe with her fawn, two Raccoon's and a couple of Squirrels all gathered around me. I raised my arms and a bird actually landed on one while the Doe nuzzled my other hand.

She was freaked out.

Of course, what she didn't know was that I had been feeding all these critters for over a year, so they trusted me.

Never let her in on that.
And it's always fun to let her tell the story. (Mainly because almost everyone considers me the gruff blowhard). LOL

LOL That must have been something to witness, not knowing you had been feeding them for some time. How awesome to be near such beautiful creatures. I remember as a child, I could never have cats because my Mom was allergic to them and not particularly found of them. I was sitting in my yard one day, probably making mud pies or something and this cat snuck up from behind me. My eyes were wide as saucers. It was like witnessing a miracle. I was in awe to be so close to this beautiful animal. It was friendly and I kept petting it. Felt like I was in heaven. I was afraid to breath lest I scare it away. LOL

One of my sisters who says she not a cat person has a cat that adopted her. Merle greets her every time she comes home and is very affectionate. Merle was her husbands cat before he passed away, and now has became the protector of the house.

Another cat I like. He's a mellow cat, but he did attack an intruder on the property once.

That cat is OK in my book.

Merle sounds wonderful! Yes, sometimes the cats choose us, we don't choose them.

So sleepy and have to go grocery shopping later. Gonna try to take a quick nap. ZZZZZZZZZ

You're welcome!

A lot of awesome writer-types hang out here, so I figured it might bring some great stories into the contest! Glad you like the theme - I don't have a story in mind for it myself, it was just an attempt to add some speculative fiction to what seemed like a common theme on the boards in the last few weeks.

So glad you are going to try and participate!!

Looking forward to it!

- AB

Hey Bud! Yah I took off a day or so from here, a little break. But I'm talking about some who have been absent for a LONG Long time!! Maybe they lost interest in us, or just real life gettin in the way, but...... Well, You know......
I'm gettin ready to drop in a Thread about an anomoly I found in a pic of the moon, that was in a thread a while ago here at ATS. That thread was about what looked like a guitar pick, on the upper portion of this certain pic. Odd to say the least, but was explained as a image glitch, if I remember. This is something I found when zooming WAY in on this image. Not a rock, not a glitch. There Tons of anomolies in this image, and some food for thought to be sure!!! Here is the zoomed part of this particular item I found. Radar installation? Not sure, but it is interesting. Well I'll post all 3. Main image. Zoomed closer, then closer yet. I'll do thumbnails, as the main takes a few seconds to load. If ya click the thumb's, then save the images, and blow them up, they stay fairly clear......
First should load even though it shows a broken image......Oh, the image is, lo5-126-h2 from NASA's site, I believe that's where 'they' got the image to begin with. Been a while back, so don't remember the thread title. Umm, I prob have it in my subscribed threads section somewhere. too lazy to look right now. LOL!! but will if needed......
