Those two are not as effective as you destroy the real estate as well as the populace.

I have learned to read between the lines when Zaphod is posting. Sometimes he says more by what he does not say.

Sonic manipulation of matter.

Grab, shake, push, rinse repeat one hundred thousand times a second.

Once you caught in the field....well, everything is a nasty soup within micro seconds.

Well, even a high pitched note from a singer can shatter glass. I would not put it outside the realm of possibility that something much more powerful with the properly tuned frequency could be devastating. Perhaps a "C" note in the right octave?

playing something like for example radiohead at a loud enough volume will cause more damage and will certainly clear a area of a population

Should we wait a few more brandies before we start asking you questions about all of these projects?

What did you your last post on the "Starships" thread?

One of them was so much more effective than they thought that a number of test observers were killed with the first shot.

Utah?

Now THAT I'm not sure of. But I heard remarkably similar stories. Not quite the same, but pretty close.

Sounds like some particle wepaon.

I know they were working on something way back in the 70's.

Whatever it was blasted out X-rays.

I thought that had something to do with gamma ray lasers. Are we thinking AM now?

From what I understand (Tom or Zaph can correct me if I'm off), this particular weapon system can remotely instantiate positrons through some ultra-freaky consequences of QFT...something to do with charge not being strictly conserved. The gammas are a byproduct of the annihilation between positrons & electrons.

Sammamishman, tajlakz,

I am an avid off road motorcycle guy and belong to several forums about such things. In 2010 a group of guys from SLC took a several day trip out into the desert west of dugway. On one night while sitting around the fire the sky to the east lit up with a bright flash, they looked and got photos of what appeared to be a column of light shining into the sky. In the photos it is so bright that it illuminated them and the desert in between.
Since they were somewhat higher in elevation than the desert floor they were able to gauge the distance, 40 miles or so, from the visible landmarks.
If I remember coreclty there were two shots or it was of long enough duration they were able to get there cameras out and shoot a couple of pics with an actual camera. It's a stunning set of pics, a huge column of light and it actually looked like it pushed a hole in the cloud cover.
I'll try to track down that forum post
