That's my thought also. Why fly a Black Project aircraft in broad daylight if you didn't want it to be seen.

I think it is a subtle message.[/quot Kinda like a UFO flying around at night with the lights on, isn't it ??

I see some are reporting this mystery craft to be the SR-72 ?

I highly doubt this craft/airframe in question is capable of mach 6, it's a bomber or UCAV for sure

It's definitely not the SR-72. It would be interesting if it was, but sadly, no such luck. Not a UCAV either.

One of my favorite areas of ATS and this is why. Thank you for those of you who have provided us with your insights. And to those few who refuse to listen and simply attack members who have proven the value of their "opinion" time and time again, you should be ashamed.

It doesn't have a straight line at the back... It's hard to see

The Air Force says that there are two teams working on two different versions. Like the YF22/YF23 as someone mentioned earlier.

While not identifying the two teams, it has been widely assumed for months that the two competitors for the program are Northrop Grumman and the team of Lockheed Martin and Boeing.

Two Teams

We won't know for sure until they tell us, but I kind of like this configuration (derived from the A-12):

Perhaps that's why there's two aircraft in a similar configuration flying around.

Yep. I have a really good idea. I know for absolute certainty what one of them is, and I'm about 95% certain on the other.

Now the question remains who built which?

I'm pretty sure on that too, based on the shapes involved.

Its a chinese spy plane.
That why it was doing all in public as a demonstration of strength... like... "hey guys I am over here and you cant stop me"...

Remember the mystery missile lunch ?? it was also a chinese sub...

It's not Chinese, and it's not Russian. It's an American project.

Amarillo = B/LM, Wichita = NG?

I seriously doubt a foreign power could fly anything through US airspace like the jet in the photo and not be intercepted/escorted and or shot down. If it was visible from the ground (through its contrails) by civilians you can bet that military radars tracking abilities would know it was there, stealth or not.
Besides flying at the suspected altitude through busy airspace uncontrolled could lead to a mid-air collision and how hi and mighty would that look to the world if it was a foreign jet?

nope... thats the whole point.

It easier to evade radar and all the evade the sensors/satellites/flir etc.

This is demonstration that they can fly over our airspace uncontested.

This is not an American project. You will see later in the year.

remember that couple of weeks ago there was a press release about the operative rail gun going to be mounted in some ships. Which of course is propaganda and demonstration of force, they are doing the same thing. Remember that war is also waged by MAD, balance of power.

And when you're wrong, are you going to admit it? I know what this was, and it's not foreign. It's an American built and flown project. China doesn't have anything with the range to do it.

3 prototypes like Amarillo, I can't imagine a contest with 3 planes, and another one with another builder not the same craft and surely different missions no?
