"Go Light" has been an option for many, many years.

But, as far as I remember, it was "go light" because the default was the "dark", while now it's the "white".

I like the dark. It seems easier to read on both a laptop and cell phone most of the time. Once in a great while, though, I do use the white on my cell phone if lighting conditions make the dark harder to read.

Yes.
I use both depending on the device. White on the iPad and iPhone, dark on the Alienware's big monitor.

The dark grey option, of course... it isn't actually black.

However, black ops, dark secrets, afraid of the... , see a red door and I want to paint it... , long cool woman in a ..... dress, mysterious, poetic, ravens quoting, etc., etc.

Gotta love the dark as the light wouldn't be the same without it.

And it was how ATS started, as you can see here.

I use the white background. I like it better than the dark and it's easier to read.

I have a 60" plasma, and have my PC hooked to it. The plasma has a slight bit of screen burn, so the dark mode of ATS is critical to me.
It all but eliminates it. I use the dark theme in Windows 7 and prefer everything that normally shows text on a white background to be reversed. It is not only much more appealing, it is better for your eyes.

BTW: The new ATS is one of the very few sites that works flawlessly when using Windows 7 and 8 dark themes. I know it took a great deal of work to get this right, and that is impressive.

Dark

It's easier on the eyes for me and I find dark colors comforting.

Dark
Frames the pics and avs nicely and has a sophisticated look...
like a martini on a monogrammed silk napkin sitting down at the business end of a grand piano
and it is easier on the eyes in subdued back lighting
looks great with a jazz quartet
