Anyone seen Jim Jefferies stand up comedy on religion?
He raises some valid points but the thing people should realise is, The devil never brought out a book, God brought out a book like he had something to try and prove to everyone. If you ask Jim, the devil was being a bigger man letting god talk crap about him lol

Also Jim Jefferies also stated he is a depressed alcoholic. He battles depression and drink. I don't think Jefferies has any answers when examining right from wrong.

That is a pretty ignorant thing to say don't you think. So what is the excuse for the countless people on pharmacy medication, do they have no distinguishing values concerning right or wrong?
Anyway I think it is a very valid observation, I don't see someone who is secure needing to indoctrinate people like sheep into their beliefs. I do however see try hards doing this everyday.

It is not ignorant and why do you bring up people on medication? I simply spoke what Jefferies stated on one of his stage acts.
If you want to follow an alcoholic with depression....by all mean do so. Don'T take a joke from a comedian and try to trun into a fact.

You are kidding right. So like who made you the judge and specialist on alcohol and depression. Lets talk about facts shall we. You have assumed that people on alcohol with depression are less stable/sane/credible than say I don't know half the worlds influential decision makers on medication for depression or anxiety. Just because Jim is funny and you are low in intelligence doesn't mean that you are anymore credible than him, yet here you are 5 degrees from being roasted.

How bout you tell me some facts from your own mind, how you perceive things.

What does suffering from depression and being an alcoholic have to do with how credible and true your words are? Do you think that people with depression or alcoholics can't make intelligent observations about things? I hope you don't think that depression is caused because someone is a sinner. That is just silly and stupid, so I'd like to assume you don't think that way. So please explain yourself here. Elaborate on your point more.

I believe the point being made was that in comparison to a professor or a doctor, a depressed alcoholic doesn't exactly scream "informed and fully rational".

There was no point being made. Or there would be some rational thought involved leading to a conclusion.

The poster said that Jefferies is a bad source for what is right and wrong. Since when do professionals and doctors determine what is right and wrong? The way the OP's post reads to me, is that he is judging the comedian poorly because he has depression and is an alcoholic.

You could probably elaborate on that further. How much alcohol would you say, what constitutes an alcoholic, a binge or a regular intake. Is depression 24/7 without relief, are clarity of thoughts still impaired in the relief moments. I mean if you are going to make judgement like that, bring a case lol not of beer.

So by your account people who suffer through alcoholism and depression NEVER have clear thoughts? They are always sitting in murky land?

I know what you said, I quoted it. You said that depression and alcoholism don't promote clarity of thought, which is true. But that being true doesn't mean that these people never have clear thoughts. So that is why I asked you if you thought that these people never have clear thoughts. If these people can have clear thoughts and say things that are intelligent and thoughtful, then the poster I originally quoted's point was complete hogwash.

ETA: To be honest, I'm kind of surprised that you are even defending the poster. The poster is pro-religion.

I get why Christians believe what they do but they won't ever be able to convince me that he was the good guy in the OT.

And it sure is tuff to see why too.

'm confused. So a god creates two people, those people disobey him... he casts them away and then says "you will suffer without me, you'll see" but then when humanity starts building societies and what-not, he commands them to kill each other and gives them lists of punishments to dole out on one another and then says "See? I told you that this would suck!".

I don't want to convince you of anything. But it's obvious why you portray the intelligence of God,
in a way that makes him out to be a buffoon. When you can look at creation and see the ignorance
in your deduction.

I don't portray him that way; the old testament does. The reason you don't agree is because you are biased (I don't mean that derogatorily as I'm biased in what I believe, too - we all are). Most people understand it more like you do because that is how it is explained to us in western culture. What I have said on the subject comes from complete objectivity using a fresh perspective reading the old testament.

Seriously, if you erase everything you know on the subject, including who you are supposed to root for, you may see things in a different light. I mean, the first few verses in Genesis, alone, will blow your mind if you block out all of your current understanding of it and read it as a child would.

And none of what I say on the subject is meant to dissuade a person from Christianity. Deities of religions all over the world are multi-layered and have more than one side to them. Christians are one of the very few groups who try to claim that their god is wholly "good" when, to outsiders looking in, he clearly is not. And that's ok. Deities are quirky. If we were to have been made in their image, it only makes sense they are not perfect (therefore making them perfect in an ironic twist).

I never said that either. I was simply pointing out what I feel to be a grain of truth in Jesuslives4u's post.

I do feel it was a rather harsh sentiment, but in my mind, it does reflect a certain reality which I feel should not be ignored. And that reality is that alcoholism and depression do not provide a solid basis for sound judgment. They both affect the chemical balances of your brain, which in turn affects your cognitive functions. It is worth keeping this in mind when discussing such matters.

ETA: To be honest, I'm kind of surprised that you are even defending the poster. The poster is pro-religion.

I don't care right now. The poster's religion or lack thereof is not the topic.

doesn't the Bible say that the adversary lied to Adam and Eve claiming that they would not die, but would be "like" God.

No, your pastor taught you that. Story goes that the Serpent, who was Lilith, not Satan btw-- introduced Man to science. She proved the fruit wasn't deadly and it DID make Man divine, as science is the language and law of God. She opened their eyes to see into the future, where among other things most people were mostly clad and Man understood they were naked and the fasion industry was first established. Fig is the new little black

But... if they saw a future with people clothed in it, wouldn't that mean that the clothed people had an Adam/Eve origin that also decided to wear fig leaves for some reason? Hah!

First of all there was never any pastor or Bible school for me, I haven't attended a church since I was 6.

Yes I understand your interpretation and have heard it before. I know why the modern apple is used as the pentagram inside has the ratio of phi encoded into it which traces the path of Venus (lucifer) in the sky. From this developed the mathematics used today in all forms of science. Especially important is the Pythagorean law of squares (by the square Sherlock). The phrase good and evil was always interpreted as knowledge of all things across the spectrum from good to evil.

You are not interpreting those Biblical texts, but rather some form of Theosophy it seems. The Bible texts say Eve was deceived and was divine before she ate of the fruit.

But then again if that is not the case, then why are people dying left and right?

What do you think of Anu being the closest Sumerian equivalent of the Biblical God as opposed to the prince of the air(aka Lucifer, Enlil) and the prince of the Earth (aka Satan, Enki)?
