There are several older movies that covered this topic. I believe one them was actually named "In Harm's Way" with John Wayne. The movie I am thinking of depicted an early radar warning system that should have worked for a warning, but more over, our diplomats knew something was up. The premise is that we let the attack happen so we can declare war with a very mad US populace.

Sounds a little like 911, huh...

According to BBC, they also have anti-submarine aircraft with them. Its very unlikely that NK would sneak one passed them.

Why not?? NK supposidly snuck past them before and sunk an SK ship...

#1, I dont buy that that one was the north,

#2, you are talking US military tech vs. SK military tech. US tends to be a bit more advanced in this type of area

#3, i didnt say they couldnt, I said it was unlikely.

The NK is going to set off a nuclear device in the middle of the war excercise to show the US that they definitely have the bomb and are willing to use it. Sounds crazy? That's NK for you.

I just had a thought as I read your post. Could this be DPRK attempt to, essentially "commit suicide"? From what I have read their military is HIGE but as you point out, slowly rusting away to nothing. Add to this an unstable turning over of the reins to Kim Jung-Un, with seeming resistance in the military upper echelons. Also they are starving and unable to feed themselves.
Perhaps this is a way to open their borders so they can swamp China with their starving....
Wishful thinking most likely.

A new thread on the BBC News WebSite

North Korea has vowed to hit back if its territorial waters are violated during joint US-South Korean military exercises, North's KCNA agency reports. The warning came as residents of a South Korean island shelled on Tuesday by Pyongyang were briefly ordered to shelter in bunkers. South Korea's Yonhap agency said the order was given after artillery fire was heard on Yeonpyeong Island. Earlier, South Korea and the US began their exercises off Korea's coast. Pyongyang has condemned the live bombing and firing drill - which is set to last four days - as a provocation. The US says the exercises are intended to deter North Korea from launching further attacks on the South. China has also expressed concern about military activity by foreign navies so close to its territory, and has warned the Americans not to stray too close.

Those words above highlighted "As Provocation" is basically what the US & SK are doing. IMO the NK have brought this on themselves but at this very minute they are being backed into a corner.

Some breaking news being reported on BBC, claiming news from the north have Issues a BLISTERING ATTACK on the forces entering thier waters

You know I used to hear always that the American High Tech stuff is capable to defeat everything, but the true problem is... no it can't. Regardless you have Los Angeles submarines, B2s or high tech American stuff in the area...

#1: Los Angeles submarines are blind, just as every other submarine. If they don't know where to search a sub, they won't find it. Same goes for the subhunter ships. The NK knows those waters inside out. The U.S. don't.
#2: The B2s. The Russian radar tech is capable to detect stealth units. It's not advertised in the U.S., but that's the truth. This is how you lost your F117 too. Older Russian radars are capable to pick them up.
#3: The American technology was kicked out by "cavemen" in Afghanistan and Iraq. So, right now regardless the U.S. has high tech from everything, they can't win a single war with it.

From the updated story on Yonhap...

" The JCS official said, however, the distant sounds of artillery firing came from the North's firing training inside its territory, not the coastline artillery near the island."

Are they sending our carrier into harms way as bait?

This is exactly what I was thinking as well.

Not that it matters to TPTB, but I dont think the American public will be all warm and fuzzy about getting involved in yet another armed conflict, but if say, one of our planes were shot down, or carriers attacked, public support may sway in favor of attacking N.K.

There was a public opinion survey, I believe it was on Fox News earlier this evening, where the public does agree something has to be done, although most sided with sending aid to S.K. Some did vote for military aid, I believe it was 46% if I am not mistaken, but Fox stated that while people sided with military aid, most agreed that it should be in the form of money and not more troops.

I realize many people are under the assumption nothing will come out of these war games, and I hope they are right. But for whatever reason, this time seems to have a totally different feel to the rhetoric, in my opinion. Plus, and I know it has been mentioned once or twice already, but it almost seems to be an after thought, Kim Jong Un may be trying to prove a point. He is untested, and every son usually wants to make his father proud. I almost wonder if Kim Jong Ill gave his son the reigns on this one and told him to have at it.
