I'm aware of the rising Muslim prison population in the U.K, that's not to say it's an impossibility to house him in a beast wing or gaol specifically tailored to such.

Many inmates in UK prisons ostensibly convert to Islam as for some reason Muslims get better food and more time out of their cell than non-Muslims.
It is also generally believed that Muslim gangs offer protection to some of the more vulnerable and at risk prisoners if they 'convert' to and follow some of the more extreme interpretations of Islam.

But even taking that into consideration Muslims comprise a disproportionate percentage of UK prison population.

We could discuss the reasons behind this but it'd probably only serve to derail the thread.

I understand the difference very much, thank you. However, just because Choudary is a nasty and revolting individual, who thrives in a hatred based ideology, does not mean that he should be mistreated.

It is the civilised approach to ensure he suffers due legal process. Just because he's a turd does not mean he should be treated differently from anyone else in the UK judicial system. Why stoop to Choudary's level?

Just to add, I can't say i like the idiot i just don't think he is particularly dangerous......or should i say more dangerous than any other nut job that spouts off regularly. He spits his venom in public but then so do many on internet sites. The thing is though he has the same freedom of speech as the rest of us. The worry is the number of people he strikes a chord with, not his actual content. If we find a way to nullify the attractiveness that some people clearly find with nutjobs like Choudary then we have gone a large way to solving the problem.

My biggest gripe with him has always been the hypocrisy. You don't like the West? Fine. Then don't live here and don't accept handouts from the authorities you despise.

Give the guy one of two options. Either send him away to a charia ruled country/location of his choice.

Or, if he wants to stay, make it mandatory for him to wear a huge billboard that states "I am a dildo" (or something of the like) whenever he appears in public. Get creative. Don't stoop to his primitive ideology with threats or prison. Don't take away his freedom of speach. Take away his dignity, and you take away his capacity to influence the masses. He will only be taken seriously if he is allowed to be serious. If those that he threatens respond in any conventional way that shows their fear, they will, inevitably, bring him legitimity.

You are correct in asserting that Choudary must not be made a martyr of. He must be ridiculed and exposed for the primitive ignoramus that he is. As long as we keep letting these people set the rules, we will continue having to engage them on their level. That is a conflict that we can easily win on a military level, but that we will always lose on a strategic one.

What I have written may seem childish, or naive. It is not. It is the only way that we can put an end to the killing without sacrificing our values, or our humanity. Either we are better than them, or we are the same as them. I know which of the two I am.

As far as I know, I am not at war with anyone.

In my 20's I was much more idealistic in my politics and world view. I have come to realize that the pendulum swung MUCH too far in one direction in the short-lived sort of "golden era" bewteen post-war and around 1990.

It will be another few generations before the world sees such a period of overall easy life and prosperity for the west.

The gloves are off now, we have to go back to the hard justice that served our world quite well for millenia.

I don't want to see a martyr made, but Choudary needs a little accidental polonium210 or thallium injection.

Britain literally conquered the world (or very nearly) and yet in the last 30years we have let our culture, society, cities and people be utterly infiltrated, dominated, eviscerated and eventually subjugated.

THE SOFT TOUCH IS OVER.

People like Choudary want heads to roll??? Heads will indeed roll, but not the ones he'd hoped for. The sleeping dragon has begun to awaken.

The media cannot help but propagandise extremists like Choudary. 'Most dangerous' should be for the courts to decide and the evidence needs to be secure too. People need to be careful...

Hopefully we have learned from the mistakes and screw-ups surrounding the failed prosecutions of Abu Qatada. The guy was constantly stirring hatred amongst Muslims, but we used evidence from 'renditions' that was inadmissible and the charges were dismissed. He's just been cleared in Jordan on lack of evidence too - a free man.

If we're to convict Choudary, the evidence will have to be legally acquired and satisfy a judge and jury. Otherwise, we're left, like Qatada, with an asshole inciting hatred against the UK from inside the UK. A lot of people do the same thing here on ATS and we have to define the difference between anti-Government rhetoric/bile and that of genuine political activism and treason.

Not quite the same, it's highly unlikely Qatada will be allowed back into the UK.

To the best of my knowledge, he has been convicted of being a member of a suspected terrorist group, and incitement to hate. He seems a repellent individual but as far as I can see there is no proof that he as an individual carried out a terrorist act. I hope that whatever laws can be applied are applied to convict and imprison him, but don't fool yourself, many in other countries would argue his right to free speech. Westboro Baptist Church also incites hate and violence against others, but I don't see them all rotting in jail.
