These are the troops...looks like soviet izlom camoflague.

The rifle he is holding is a Russian VSS Vintorez, used by the Russian special forces.

That would the most stupid thing the new Ukrainian government could do.

They can say bye bye to the Crimea. Seems politicians in all countries have no sense.

For those who believe Russia will walk away from the Ukraine-Crimea without engaging in a brutal protracted apocalyptic fight to the death, you'd better think twice.

Yep. Absolutely.

I'm frantically looking to see if it's true and if it's just a threat, or if they are really planning it.

If they are then this, coupled with all the flurry of military movement in the past few hours, ends badly.

Do you honestly believe WW III would simply be popcorn worthy entertainment? Even if said in a Tongue-in-cheek manner Tens of Millions or more would die.

“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”

Thank you! Now I understand the face-palm. I really wish ATS would get with the program and add a special sarcasm font like most other sites. My entire post was intended as sarcasm. So much doom and gloom gets posted around here, I couldn't help but add a bit of snark. Sorry for the confusion.

For the record, I am anti-war; actually anti-violence of any kind for any reason.

Don't worry Leather. I had the same experience. It appears that people on ATS don't really get sarcasm and irony, despite the stars in their profile. Just be happy to know that whoever gets your posts are the one worth conversing with.

Perhaps the bankers wish to destroy those Ukrainian pipelines......a war would suffice to at least cripple them ....the Israelis have a very large Nat gas find that encompasses the seas of both it and Lebanon as well as gas off the coast of Cyprus(Turkey claims some too)
The Syrian pipeline is projected for europes supply as well......
An hiatus of Russian gas supplies would cause a scramble to open these other ones....
I think the bankers timing is a bit off though....factors like Assad clinging onto power and the west checked from intervening have slowed some things down......

Meanwhile, Russian lawmakers introduced two bills Friday to simplify annexing new territories into the Russian Federation and simplify access to Russian citizenship for Ukrainians, the Russian state news agency Itar Tass said. One bill also stipulates that accession of a part of a foreign state to Russia should be taken through a referendum, according to Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.

The above is from CNN. This shows that Russia will take Cremia and E. Ukraine via refrundum and then send the troops there.

All the men in battle dresses are Russian soldiers as their faces are covered so that no one can say I know Mr. X he is a military officer etc.

Best would be if Central Europe is declared a neutral ground not belonging to NATO nor Russia. This way there would be little tensions and suspicions.

Long term plan of NATO is to break up Russia into pieces. That is not right let alone honorable. Global peace hurts in that way and resources are spent up in tit for tat proxy wars and civil wars leaving common people to suffer. Fears and paranoias need to give way to practical approach.

How does Russia think that by a Russian referendum it can annex a sovereign country, such as the Ukraine...aaahhhh i know
in the same way the Hitler annexed the Sudetenland and Austria in 1938.

The only thing that is a laugh is your knowledge of Ukraine.

Much of eastern and southern Ukraine identify themselves as Russian.

And much of Western, and Central speak English. So, what's your point? That Europe is an eclectic collection of individuals? Wow, that's amazing. I never would have known that. Some French speak English, too. Some Italians, speak French and English. I guess the UK can invade those provinces that have more English speaking Frenchman? Good idea! Oh my...so what is your point again?

Oh yeah, you have no point.

And you have no reading comprehension.

They aren't Russian speaking Ukrainians, they self identify as Russian.

Are you aware of that distinction?

abcnews.go.com... i guess Ukraine has gone to the UN security council on the matter for what its worth(russia holds veto power in such things)

Ukraine's U.N. ambassador says he has told the U.N. Security Council that Russian military helicopters and transport planes are entering his country and Russian armed forces seized Crimea's main airport. Ukraine's Ambassador Yuriy Sergeyev told reporters Friday outside the council that neither major airport in Crimea is under national control and that the main airport was "captured by Russian armed forces." He said 11 Russian attack helicopters had been brought in along with Mi-24 military transport planes. Sergeyev said Russian "groupies" in Crimea are challenging Ukraine's national authority.

guess we will have to wait and see what if anything the UN has to say or do on the matter

Your ridiculous assumption that every single person who lives in southern, and eastern Ukraine self-identify as Russians, is simply an attempt to legitimize aggression. They are Russian speaking Ukranians, because they live in the Ukraine, a soverign country. If they lived in Russia, they'd be Russian.

Next question.
