Why Are The Masons Looking At My Sons Eyes?

Last night, after my son finished addressing Valentines for each of his classmates, I was putting them into his backpack when I came across this little guy.

Whoa! What was that doing there?

So I asked him about it and he said it was from when they came to his school and did eye exams on all of the students. From what he described, it was just the typical exam, you know, cover one eye, read each line until the letters are too small for you to read. To me, it sounds like good people doing good things for the community. But the other side of my brain says "No! Masosns are bad! They want to do retinal scans, log his DNA in the system, make clones of him, feed him to the beast to eat his soul (insert any other paranoid conspiracy from spending too much time on ATS here) ".

So I thought I would present it to the fine people of ATS and see what you guys think.

Here is the website for Prevent Blindness Oklahoma From the site...

Prevent Blindness Oklahoma would provide the screening expertise; Grand Lodge would provide volunteers in communities throughout the state; and The Masonic Charity Foundation would provide the funding.

Currently 191 Lodges assist with screenings in their communities. The Oklahoma Masonic Charity Foundation has contributed over 3 MILLION dollars to fund the Partners in Prevention Program since its inception. Local lodges have also helped raise money to purchase a SPOT camera for their local screener’s use.

Here is a more in depth write up about the partnership from the Grand Lodge Oklahoma Grand Lodge

I also looked up their business info Guidestar

Our Children's Vision Screening program serves children in preschools, day care centers, Head Start Centers, public and private schools. Our new EZ as 1 2 3 program highlights screening with our new SPOT computerized photoscreening cameras to provide screening for 1-3 year olds in licensed day care facilities in Oklahoma

What are SPOT cameras and what is Photoscreening? Spot Imaging is the website for the Spot Cameras.

About Photoscreening Wiki

So that's it. After looking into it, I still feel like it is just good people doing good things for the community, which may be naïve, but I haven't found anything to prove otherwise . It was just a little shocking to find that big eyeball looking back at me from my child's backpack out in the middle of small town USA. Just thought I would share cause it's not everyday that I come across something like this and I thought it was interesting. If there is any nefarious alternative reason for them to be checking children's eyes, then I thought you guys would definitely be the ones to dig it up or make any connections that may be there.

One thing I don't understand is why they are even still doing these exams and dental exams at schools when every child in Oklahoma has SoonerCare if their parents aren't wealthy enough for private healthcare. Shouldn't these things be handled between parents and private healthcare providers?

Hello fellow Okie. My kids all had eye exams at school. Don't know if it was the Masons doing it. Had scoliosis checks.
Interesting concern about the retinal scans. Hadn't thought of that. AFAIK, none of my kids have been cloned or had
their souls eaten by beasts.

The schools also have cops come out to talk about stranger danger and will fingerprint your kids without your permission!
I find that to be more nefarious than eye exams and one of the many reasons I no longer have my child in public school.

When I was in my teens (mid-90's) I had to have a laser surgery done to fix a retinal tear. My mom couldn't afford the bill and was directed to the local masonic lodge for help. She filled out some paperwork and provided the proofs and well, they paid for it!

I think this is just a good group of people trying to help in their community. At the same time I understand your being a bit leery of who and why people are doing these medical screenings in schools and why it isn't just between parent and child.

Overall, I think it's a good thing. There are many parents who, even though they are by no means negligent, will not spot eye problems or hearing problems and such and the children will think it's 'just the way it is'...

I say, "go Masons"!

Dude, chill out. I am unsure if it a recent development development in the public mind, or if humans have always distrusted good samaritanism and people who unselfishly give their time expertise toward helping others. A member posted here some time ago regarding the distrust he creates among parents when he is kind and friendly to children that are not his own. It is counterintuitive, and even paradoxical, but this seems to be a trend. People are getting more anxious and afraid. Being that we live in an economic structure and culture that rewards self-centeredness and acheivement by exploiting others, it would seem natural to distrust good intentions and mistake them for an attempt to be hustled. The Masons aren't doing this so they can suck out your son's soul. They aren't doing this so they can win you over and get you to willingly offer your son as a sacrifical lamb. They are doing this because charity has always been a tenent by which they pride themselves. They are doing this because they have a skewed public image and desire to demonstrate the principles they live by to the people in your area. The 'All Seeing Eye' is symbolic within a Masonic Lodge, and they deliberately used this symbolism in their advertisement for eye-exams. The Masons I know have a clever sense of humor, and understand that using such imagery will get a person's attention - the Eye, among other symbolism used in Lodge, have a way at striking a chord within initiates and non-initiates alike, and provide for much positive contemplation.

best wishes xox

Haha Thanks for the reassurance! I would imagine that it was the Masosns who did the exams for your children as well since Prevent Blindness does all the eye exams in Oklahoma Schools.

I had also come across the Masonichip program while looking more into this last night. It is by request only and they claim that they don't keep any of the stuff they collect.

Masonic Child Identification Programs

The CHIP programs allow parents the opportunity to create a kit of identifying materials for their child, free of charge. The kit contains a fingerprint card, a physical description, a video, computer disk, or DVD of the child, a dental imprint, and a DNA sample. The purpose of the kit is to provide critical information to the public and to law enforcement in the event that a child goes missing. The program has been lauded by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.[1]

So again,. it looks like doing good things for the community, but kind of creepy if there are other purposes behind it. Right now I am just filing all this into the "Well That's interesting" file in my brain. lol It has always been one of those things for me that you read about online and it never affects your life directly in any way. I wasn't even aware that we had the largest Masonic Temple in Guthrie until a few months ago, so I guess they have a pretty big presence here in OK.

That's awesome! Thanks for sharing your story! This is exactly what I was hoping you good folks could do and that is putting that little "what if" part of my mind at ease. I'm glad that you were able to get the surgery that you needed and they were there to help.

They are picking which eyes they want to eat at the upcoming feast of Shub-Niggurath. They all pick a pair and sorry but If your sons eyes are blue he may be picked.
Or they are just decent dudes trying to help folk.
Can't wait for the ATS member who hates the Masons to tell us what he thinks lol.

Yes, that is the program that had cops fingerprinting school children. Parents were sent a permission slip to sign if they wanted their child to participate. I scribbled a huge NO across the form and even pinned a note to my son's shirt saying "NO FINGERPRINTING!". They did it anyway. When I called to loudly complain, I was told it was done for the child's protection and to help locate him safely if he were ever abducted. I countered with "it does NOTHING to help locate him, only to identify his dead remains". They don't care. Your child is state property.
The following week they had "voluntary" flu vaccines. I kept him out of school and at home for that one. If they ignore no fingerprinting mandates by the parents, then they would probably ignore the no vaccine mandate too.
The public schools are becoming increasingly intrusive into a child's home/personal life but I don't think the Masons are behind it. At least not directly. LOL.
If you want to look at real issues to be paranoid about concerning your child's school, watch what kind of homework assignments they're given. In a social studies class the kids were told to draw blueprints of their homes. I asked the teacher point blank if he were planning to break into homes. Why else would he need blueprint layouts of kids homes? Has NOTHING to do with social studies.
Had a math teacher ask how many kids had parents that rolled their own cigarettes (which I did at the time). Got a visit from the police wanting to search my home for marijuana (no warrant). Told them to take a flying leap and reported the school to the Dept. of Education which was ignored by them.
There are any number of issues that would cause parental paranoia from public schools (have you SEEN the curriculum?!) but I don't think eye exams are among them.

So true. Most lodges joke about 'riding the goat', at ours the Goat is a bit more interesting and honestly does not like to be ridden.

Actually I am a Dudette!
I am not over here going all schizoid, I just found it interesting. I actually do a lot with the community through our church and am also involved in Disaster Relief efforts when they strike so I have come across those who are suspicious of us at times as well. I think what has surprised me the most about this is that after what all has been said about the Masons, my only experience with them was this and they were doing something positive.

I have the CHIP kit for both of my children. Where I live we havr an annual Koolade dayz. The local masons provide the kits free of charge every year. Hell they even open up the whole lodge for everybody on those days.

I think your spot on in throwing your paranoia aside and seeing them as just good people. 90% of what masons do is charity.

I wouldn't worry about the Masons, they are trying to help the kids out here. Not everyone is aware that their child's sight may not be as good as it should be. This is just a service. The Masons I know are good people. They tend to think something is going to happen and that they may be in charge for a while. I wouldn't mind being under their rule, they are not evil guys. If everything collapses in this country, someone has to help keep the piece and lead us through the economical collapse.

No, but we have an Elder Sign and it seems to help in that regard.

Meh, it's one of those 'root principle' sorts of things, I'd say. After all, a little more light is something we'd all desire, if our eyes were blinded.

Masons usually try to get together and do a community project. This is one of them. It takes many lodges to pull together and make a project like this work. Typically the Scottish Rite deals with eye care, but blue lodges do as well. (as seen here)

Sounds to me like they are just providing a community service.

Either that or they're hunting for reptilians.
