Over 100,000 people die on Earth each year from heroin.
Over 150,000 new user get addicted each year.
Over 90% of it comes from Afghanistan.

A man with a family, millions of dollars and a great acting career decides he needs to do heroin. Then dies in his bathroom. And most everyone in this thread....feels bad for him? Good riddance is what I say!

But I doubt the story to be true, just like "of course Paul Walker died in a car crash" just because he starred in racing movies. And Heath Ledger dying after playing the Joker in Batman.

Ya ok i would entertain a Esylum theory, not an 8th landmass on earth though. Not above ground anyway.

And to say we are all turning a blind eye on all those other deaths in america is a punch below the belt.
Would be the same as saying we are turning a blind eye on any non natural cause death happening right now.
It is not us that are producing and keeping this drug around, those are the ones turning a blind eye on the deaths
This man was scene by many and not every person that died from herion was.. He may even had an impact on peoples lives, the least they could do is say a couple nice words.

Feel's bad for him? Only to the point that he needed help with addiction. I feel deeply though for his kids and family, their suffering will be with them always. The kids will be in torment and counselling for life trying to come to terms with what a stupid act their dad did. That breaks my heart. PSH was mesmerising and powerful on screen, his motives for drug use will only be understood by himself.

He did this to himself and it's a miserable thing to do to his family but it probably became way out of his control very fast. I guess it's quite similar to Paul Walker, he was a reckless idiot too but I still feels for the damage he left behind.

This sounds fairly suspicious to me. Not to sound paranoid, but this is a conspiracy forum. For one thing, it's odd that false rumors of his death were circulating not long before he actually died. Secondly, I doubt he would overdose mere seconds after injecting himself, he should have had time to remove the needle from his arm. It's almost as if someone stuck the needle in his arm to make it look the way they wanted it to look, but it's just too obvious imo.

I think people made the fake death rumours because he has turned around recently and said he is taking H again after 23 years away, also some people get so high so quick from H they don't care if the needle is in or not.

Another link to the story can be found here:
Philip Seymour Hoffman, 46, found dead in Manhattan apartment after apparent overdose

Probably my favourite role of his was alongside Jeff Bridges in 1998's The Big Lebowski.

RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman. Best wishes to family and friends of the actor through this difficult time.

* * * * * *

Another "drug overdose", this time the needle still in the individual's arm when found dead.

Now it could be that he was so much of an addict that he could not keep the needle away from injecting; or it could be that somebody else jabbed him to make it look like an overdose.

Not everything is a conspiracy, but that doesn't mean everything is not a conspiracy either.

Welp.

Seeing as so many people responded to my comment of having no sympathy for overdoses...I feel I should elaborate some to clear the stench of foul air that I wafted through that was aimed right at me.

I support people who overcome addiction because it is a life long battle.
The man was clean for 23 years. That was awesome but I understand addiction all too well. Just had another good friend die from an overdose a month after my cousin. Lost many family members to it, and countless friends. Am I sympathetic towards a prolific actor that relapsed? No. Call me dumb, tough, harsh...I don't mind. At least I tell it the way I see it. I choose everyday to steer clear of drugs and addictions. Why? Because they (heroin) WILL kill you. I have no sympathy left for those who choose to do something out of a chase for a "high" and call it recreation. I'm tired of feeling sorry for those people. Been through it too much. Everyone on this planet knows what that drug does. You are taught the dangers of it in middle school. Why sit here and condone it by saying "awww that's too bad?" Sure it's a tragedy. Every accidental death is. I don't subscribe to the idea that I should feel sorry for someone who lost a fight with a drug they chose to use.

The man knew what the dangers were and risked his life....more than once. Was he a good person? Not for me to judge because I never knew him personally as I'm sure most of you didn't either. Good actor and director? Absolutely! But I feel more sorrow for his friends and family. They are the ones who will suffer the most from his passing.

I'm not saying he wasn't a good person.
I AM saying that dying of a drug overdose is terrible way to die.

In all honesty who cares really. How many other people died horrible deaths at the same time as he did and you will never hear about those folks. He danced with the devil and lost plain and simple. He bought the crap, tied off his arm and injected himself not like someone held a gun to his head and forced him to use.

Well, I care because he brought entertainment to my life through his movies. Random junkies on the street do nothing for me, so I see a difference between the two, I guess you don't...

When you inject heroin the feeling you get is immediate, so it is totally feasible that he tied off, did the drugs (which were probably top quality, low cut stuff), the drug hit him right away and he laid back (not thinking of removing needle), and passed out- which likely led to the overdose... Just a possible scenario too... I've known many addicts and when you inject heroin the feeling is immediate, not waiting for it to kick in or anything...

I see someone who had the chance to do a lot with his life in terms of influencing people for the better and in the end he dies on a cold tile floor.....bravo philip bravo. You took a life that millions would kill for and reduced it to junkie statistic way to go.

In your first comment I replied to you wrote "honestly, who cares?"... Well, the million dollar question here is why are you commenting on a thread if you don't seem to care? It's apparent that many on this thread do care and did respect the work he did and do understand that addiction is a sad horrible disease, but you seem to be trolling a thread of a deceased man that you apparently don't seem to care about???

Simple course of action, if you don't care then don't comment, there are many other threads on ATS that I'm sure you do care about, so why waste time on one that you don't care about?

I have every right to express my opinion regardless of whether or not you like said opinion. as for trollling...not even close to trolling.

But if you don't care, then why are you expressing your opinion, what do you have to gain from this? If anything, you are contradicting that point, showing you do care, because you are spending time commenting on something you apparently don't care about..

And one other thing, you mentioned why didn't he do any good, well he did.. He worked with many charities like the Red Cross, Unite for Japan, Feeding America and Actors Fund of America

No, I don't know, because I don't go commenting on threads I don't care about... But you're right, why should anyone care about the death of a brilliant actor.

Just another liberal who, instead of picking his kids up, loses all restraint and shoots up. Back when America was led by conservative education and schooling, stuff like this would hardly ever occur.
