Thanks for pointing out this glaring omission from the original OP:

In the survey participants were also asked: “If there were no barriers to living in any country of the world, which country would you like to live in?” Despite being the perceived largest threat to world peace, the US still topped the tables by a narrow margin of 9 percent.

Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect the individual opinions of the ATS posters, but I find it hard to place too much validity in a poll that surmises that the US is both the most dangerous country while at the same time being the most preferred country in which to reside by the same poll participants.

We are the most dangerous aggressive country and we can operate with impunity in every country on earth with the possible exceptions of China, and Russia...so if we're taking over the world and we effect you anyways...why not move here where there is the real chance of a higher level of living and a real chance at riches.

I guess that the question of morality enters my mind and I choose to believe I'm not the only one for which this would hold significant weight.

"Oh how I wish to live in the most dangerous country in the world in order to cash in on the opportunities it's superiority, arrogance and aggression offers?" I personally can't buy that.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Many people don't mind hitching up to a corrupt system if it benefits themselves. The people who want to move here obviously haven't been reading the news about the police state, the health care fiasco, or the poisonous, unlabeled GMO food.

You should go to some of the US Political Forums then, with many here now having come from other countries
As an American, I am ashamed at what come of the members agree with if it enriches themselves at others expense around the world.

The things you can get away with in the US if you make it Big would get a bullet in your head in other places in the world.
How do you think China would have handled the criminals on Wall Street?

Let me clarify. I'm not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with you and I have visited the Political forums which is the proper venue for opinions/debates on any country's policy.

The only point I was making was that I find it hypocritical and morally repugnant to say that ANY country is the most dangerous to world peace while simultaneously saying that you would want to live there if given the chance and reap any available personal rewards of such. My comment was more relative to the validity and/or unbiasedness of the poll and it's participants as opposed to my personal opinion of US policy.

Hey TTT..
Do you think that if American mums and dads brought their sons and daughters up with the opinion that it's wrong to join the military to kill women and children in far away lands?????....just so they can pay off their mortgage and large pick-up trucks......a lot of the dislike for americans would disappear??????

it would certainly starve the American war mongers[who don't send their brats overseas to fight]...of the man/women power to carry out the collateral damage that the rest of the world detests?????

look at the drone sh#t that's hitting wedding ceremonies in far away places from the usa....how are these operators hero's and protecting their homeland and their families???????.....from a bride and groom who want to raise children????

the president of the usa is damaged goods from a dysfunctional family....he's certainly not a statesman with style or decorum......how can any sensible person follow him?????

I'm so glad I don't live in the usa......to me it seems such a topsy tervey extreme country where if your not with us then you must be against us.....no middle ground....a nazi world.....

American opinions on ats give me this impression ......

I think if we stopped joining the military, then we could see the reinstatement of the draft. The people I know personally in the military are good people that just want to "defend their country". Most of them are good at heart, and heroically willing to lay down their lives. They are then used up and thrown away by our military, given really shoddy treatment when they're out, given experimental vaccines - they are used like lab rats. I feel very sorry for them.

I don't place the blame on the little guy in the military. They aren't setting the agenda. Many of them speak out against the police state, and speak up for our Constitutional rights.

I do applaud the small guys who take big steps to try to improve things, like Chelsea Manning. That took a lot of guts to stand up for the rights of Iraqis with the result of being imprisoned in solitary.

The problem behind the wars is the Military Industrial Complex - the business side of it. With them, you can blame the stockholders, who want to see their portfolios go up at any cost. That is the root of the problem.

We the people elected someone who said they were going to end these wars, and he turned out to be a Manchurian Candidate. We tried to bring peace, and we were conned. Hopefully in the 2016 election we can elect someone with legitimate desire to see world peace.

There are a fair number of people here that don't care what happens to the lives of others around the world. These people are part of the problem too. They don't realize that what goes around comes around, and our bills are coming in "past due". The pendulum will swing the other way some day, and maybe then people will see the error of their views. All lives matter, whether American, Yemeni, North Korean, Saudi - even those we disagree with. They all matter, and their right to not be blown up by a drone or an invasion is paramount.

Certainly the US is a terrorist government. Illegal invasion of sovereign countries, detaining "criminals" for years without a public trial, illegal bombings, murder of innocent citizens- what does that sound like to you.

American't is guilty 100 times over of the crimes it has groundlessly accused Iraq and Afghanistan of- not to mention crimes against its own citizens in its illegal domestic spy activities.

George Bush, Dick Cheney, Petraeus and all those acting in concert with them are war criminals who should be tried as a traitors.

What I find ironically humorous is that the same people polled who say that the US is the biggest threat are also the very same people who would like to immigrate here.

Screw them and their opinions...they can't even make up their own mind.

Just cause you think the usa is a threat doesnt mean you dont want to live there. It called routing for the side you thinks going to win, and thats normaly the biggest threat.

Ps i think the US goverment is a huge threat but you wouldnt catch me dead immigrating to the states.

The poll is not saying that Americans are evil or anything in that context. Just foreign politics, which are "Lets bomb the s%1t out of that country in order to save them" and "We will make sure that you don't have a country to lead if you don't want to resign on your own" ... just look what happened with Syria last year. Americans are mostly good people, US Army is full of good people ... the problem is, that your 'leaders' are mostly idiots that don't respect anyone except themselves.

US the biggest threat to world peace in 2013 – poll

Is anyone surprised?

I sure am not.

Sometimes these polls do present accurate statistics...

Anyways, I don't need poll results to state the obvious.

I would have bet Miley Cyrus would clinch the number one spot. Christ, she wants to come through like a wrecking ball after all.

If I was American, I would probably be sort of offended ... but then again, people cast their votes on America not because of Americans, but because of Congress. And really, who can blame them for that?

Remember, your congress may not be the worst, but of all the parliaments in the world, yours are the most prominent - and I have yet too see a parliament that doesn't make me question the sanity of it's country and government!

So, well, blame Congress! :-)

How do you rate a country like China that is in the process of pillaging natural recourses in countries much like we did in the 70s 80s...? Right now the biggest influence in the world is China as in they are everywhere to get what they can from underdeveloped countries.

It's odd that an American would have the same enemies list as Iran.

Shoot man...hahahahaha...

People are allowed opinions. How does anyone's personal list make them Iranian? I am Canadian of European descent and agree with that list for the most part...you going to call me Iranian?

Nice job of derailing this thread though...congrats.

As for USA being number 1 bad guy, on the political stage yes but in reality it is above all that, these so called elected officials in Washington DC are just slaves to Wall street and the Federal Reserve and much more than that if you look into it, it goes beyond national borders and and public admissions. It's all about money, always has been always will with a few other agendas thrown in.

Things do go on behind the scenes and the USA just so happens to be a convenient playing field.

When people play the USA blame game they forget to mention that their countries are puppets to the same masters too, including mine. I admit it all the time and try and make sure not to pretend I am better than anyone else as we are all the same in most cases where we are just regular people caught in the middle.

As an American you should speak out against these things instead of trying to justify them.

Can you refute or disagree with anything I typed? If so please elaborate.

Beautiful post you hit it dead on, could not have said it better!

I have heard that Winston Churchill was voted the biggest threat to world peace in 1936. I guess these polls aren't super accurate.

If you operate in an imperialist manner you by default become the biggest threat to peace with nearly 1000 military bases around the globe your imperialism cannot now be in doubt.

If you continually spy, infiltrate, manipulate and intimidate you will face a backlash last time it was Muslim terrorists next time it may be your creditors in Beijing or a parcel from Kim addressed to downtown Los Angeles only time will tell.
