Don't worry about standing corrected. You have every reason to be a bit alarmed because, as Puterman said, April has been the most active month since quake records began. Phage is simply our "resident cup of chamomile tea." He makes sure that we all relax and have a good night's rest.

here ya go
Bougainville and San Cristobal, Solomon Is M7+ series April 2014, 9.25 days worth
I've done this different than in the past, because there are so many M7's I have seperated them into individual "Very-Strong" sections, rather than just do it by 24 hour periods.
4 x M7 location maps, with "ghost" traces of previous events after the 2nd one
4 x M7 aftershock maps (up till the next one)
8 x Network location maps (compare estimates), 4 x7's and 4x 6's
4 x HNR BHZ seismograph images
8 x GCMT Moment Tensor images
1 x M5.6+ location map
1 x 222hr Timeline graph.
The smaller maps (Network and Aftershock) are centred on 2 different locations;
-6.86107,154.97741 Bougainville
-11.04373,162.0636 San Cristobal

What I found interesting is the Aftershock maps, apart from the 7.4Mw of 2014/04/13 12:36:18 the other 3 did not create or co-inside with any more than one event at the other hot spot at opposite end of the islands during the time period. This could partly be explained by the long period between the 7.4 at San Cristobal and the 7.5 at Bougainville, but it seems each hot spot is having its own party, there are 906.5 km between the centre of those two maps, and nothing happening in between.
Currently;
San Cristobal is ahead with the ER 5,857,066.83TTNT, has the bigger quakes, even though less of them, 66
Bougainville has released 3,645,709.94TTNT, but has more events, 70

I can't see it snapping in the middle, more likely the stress is being transferred to New Ireland/New Britain to the NNW*. Just a guess.

I don't know how the Solomononians feel right now, but I'm shattered after doing that.

*lucky guess, honestly I hadn't looked at the lists until I had posted the original post.
2014-04-20 08:56:40, 4.8, 6.07°S, 148.96°E, 5, New Britain Region, P.N.G.

on the wrong side though, I was expecting around Rabaul side

I've loaded Geonets mobile phone alert app. info.geonet.org.nz...
I set the sound to "knock, knock, knock" and vibrate. And quiet time 9pm-5am where it just sends a message with no sound.
Seems the last 2 days it goes off in the early morning the most. Nothing much happening, biggest one so far was a 3.8 this morning off East Cape.
Expect if a big one hits it will go off like a woodpecker!

I don't think I've ever seen such a tiny micro-earthquake given such thorough treatment.
Mag 1.8 Littlerock, CA focal mechanism
Yep, right-lateral movement directly on the long, locked portion of the southern San Andreas gets a little scrutiny.

Has an M1.8 quake derailed a train? Caused any damage? Been felt?

I have not much time. I've kept my on Momotombo. The earthquakes had been tampering off, just like the rest of Central America. But, they've regained a bit of strength in the last day or so. Yesterday, I noticed what I thought were double-taps. Coupled earthquakes. I think these earthquakes are similar to Yellowstone's when fluid is moving.

The double taps are yesterday so you'll have to search for that to see them. Today's bigger squiggle seems to be fluid and prolonged.

Maybe you meant to respond to me? In any event, the answer is, 'Of course not'.

The reason I posted about the tiny EQ, is because the seismic networks don't normally go to the bother of working out the moment tensors of very small quakes--unless they are in a location that could be trouble.

Heck, half of the mag 5's on the daily lists don't have their focal mechanisms resolved, and certainly not within 30 minutes of the shaking.

Not in this case that I am aware of, it was just a comparison of energy
quake was at 3.something km, but if it had been at 0km who knows what may have happened

Soooooo....it's pretty quiet in New Zealand muzzy... I am starting to feel a bit uneasy about our lack of moving and shaking in any meaningful way here!

Triggered, or not triggered?

"Does it seem as if there have been more earthquakes in recent weeks? Some scientists thought so."

www.nbcnews.com...

The only thing I'd like to add is not the numbers. It's what I've observed, and for how long. Clusters. Right now it's quiet. Not long ago, it wasn't. It's that simple.

(One note regarding possible places to watch. I'd add Turkey to the mix. Alaska, and Central America as well. )
(Momotombo is slightly quieter. However, it can be said that the swarm is still ongoing.)

Had to add. Ubinas is simmering down.

My parents felt it. They are on north tip of vancouver island. They called me as soon as it happened and it hadn't been uploaded onto usgs. LOL. i was waiting to see how big it was. They seemed a little worried. The whole house was shaking pretty good back and forth they said. Crazy times. Epicentre is very close to land. Usually the quakes around there are a bit further out to sea.

I'm 300 miles away so I didn't feel it. But, the heat pump started making some high-pitched squeaks around that time. Only lasted a 10 seconds? or so. Made me get up to go look in the utility closet
I'm not sure if the squeaks were related and if they are, would it have something to do with the heat pump having lines that run to the lake about 30 feet from my house...
