Iceland's Met Office (IMO) confirmed the 2 new eruptive fissures that opened earlier today south of the previous eruption site in Holuhraun, in a graben, that had formed above the intrusion, about 2km away from Dyngjujökull.
"- The eruptive fire fountains from the new fissures are substantially smaller than in the older fissure. Steam and gas rises in a south eastern direction from the fissure.
There is no evidence that the eruption of lava pocket is receding. Gufustrókar from the eruption has reached 15 thousand feet, but much brennisteinstvíildi measure around the eruption site. About 170 earthquakes have measures from midnight until eight o'clock in the evening, the biggest ones 4.4 and 5.3.
Police in North Eastern Iceland today arrested driver and passengers of several jeeps, seen entering the restricted zone near the Holuhraun eruption. The area has been completely closed off, due to fear of an impending subglacial eruption and flood. The uninvited guests can expect heavy fines.
