Texas Republicans Find A Way To Disenfranchise Women Voters

Oh boy, here we go….”those damn darn republicans out to destroy America” threads! Republicans and democrats are out to destroy America, and all the big corps and big money controlling them. Not figured that out yet?

So not to derail the thread, I’ll go elsewhere and let you have your say on those big bad republicans..

Making matters more difficult is Texas’ new voter ID law, expected to take effect in 2014, which opponents say is designed to disenfranchise minorities and other Democratic-leaning voters.

Under the new law, concealed-carry gun licenses are an acceptable form of ID at the polls; student ID cards are not.

So..>College students, women and minorities...

The end problem is that they remember these slights and demographics and time eventually defeat these tactics.

Backlash is a bitch come election day.

Student IDs are invalid for the simple reason that they are not issued by the State of Texas, and may not have any security practices associated with their issuance.

Any Federal or state photo ID (or one for which you had to show a photo ID) is acceptable.

According to the Texas DMV...Both Student ID's and Concealed Carry licenses are considered "secondary froms of ID"....It's only in the new GOP voting laws where Concealed Carry Permits were assigned a greater status and Student ID's a lessor status.

Supporting identity documents include:
##Social security card
##Form W-2 or 1099
##Driver license or ID card issued by another U.S. state, U.S. territory, the District of Columbia or Canadian province (unexpired or expired less than two years)*
##Texas driver license or ID card that has been expired more than two years
##Temporary receipt for a Texas driver license or ID card
##School records* (e.g., report cards, photo ID cards)
##Military records (e.g., Form DD-214)
##Unexpired U.S. military dependent identification card
##Original or certified copy of marriage license or divorce decree (if the document is not in English, a certified translation must accompany it)
##Voter registration card*
##Pilot license*
##Concealed handgun license*

AND...If you follow that little asterisk at the end of the Concealed Carry license...

*The document must be issued by an institution, entity or government from a U.S. state, a U.S. territory, the District of Columbia or a Canadian province.

Get that? They will accept a Concealed carry license from CANADA for voting? But not a student ID from the USA.

I believe here in Arizona you have to be a citizen to get a ccw.

See above...Apparently in TX a Concealed Carry License issued in other states...even Canada is valid.

And a student ID has a great deal of ID requirements behind it...Here from Texas A&M

How can I get my student ID?

During your New Student Conference, you will have the opportunity to get your photo student ID made. Please refer to the schedule for locations. You must have a current government-issued photo ID (drivers license, military ID, etc) to receive your ID Card.

My wife didn't have her married name on her drivers license until it was time to renew it? Is she a criminal? Or are you just demanding a mandate that everyone own a car in order to vote? Or apply for a Concealed Carry Permit?

It is not the demand for ID that anyone has issue with, it is the way the definition of ID is intentionally biased to favor certain folks that constitutes voter suppression.

That Canadian CCW will have gone through far more rigorous checks then anything else an average Texan would have in their wallet...so why not?

It is also information that has all been shared with the US Federal government, making for very easy verification.

Since Texas did not pass anti-REAL ID legislation, then yes, your wife's DL was technically invalid.

Many of you are demanding proof of Voter fraud to justify these laws well I demand proof from you of the so called disenfranchisment where these voter ID laws exist.
Its not there. No one has been denied access to obtaining one of these Voter ID cards unless they truthfully should legally not have had one.
These BS excuses about it costing 5 or 10 dollars, or "I cant get to the registration office" are just that complete BS. I bet if they sold beer wine and cigerretts at the voter registration office they would not have any problem getting down there nor would they have any problem paying for it along with a 12 pack and a carton of Camels.
My wife and I moved to a new home about 5 years ago. This put us in a new voter district. She took a day off work. Had her Dl and voter registration all updated at the same time. I waited till my ID was ready to expire before I got it updated since it was only a few months away. Since I have completely flushed the idea of voting fixing anything I didnt bother getting my registration updated.
I guess my move suppressed my vote.....Im oppressed and disenfranchised!!!!!! I need to sue someone!!!!

How quickly people forget. There was a big enough problem in Harris County, TX to warrant it's own website during the 2008 Presidential primary elections...

As Americans, we expect certain liberties and rights that were defined by by our forefathers in documents like the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. "We the people" expect that these fundamental rights will always be protected. However, in the current Democratic Presidential Primary, this has not been the case. We believe The Democratic National Committee (DNC) made a grave error by depriving American voters of their choice of Hillary Clinton as Democratic nominee. Senator Clinton, by all accounts, except caucuses, won the Primary Election and, therefore, should be the 2008 Democratic Nominee. That didn't happen, due largely to illegitimate and illegal acts. We have interviews of many accounts from caucus states recounting threats, intimidation, lies, stolen documents, falsified documents, busing in voters in exchange for paying for "dinners," etc. There are at least 2000 complaints, in Texas alone, of irregularities directed towards the Obama Campaign, that have lead to a very fractured and broken Democratic Party.

Here everyone: Texas DMV Fees

To get a name or address updated, it's $11. If poor people can't afford it, I'm sure there are some charities or agencies or friends or family members or perfect strangers that can donate the $11 to get it taken care of.

This whole argument about ID = Disenfranchisement is ridiculous. And someone argued that charging for ID cards is tantamount to a voter tax...well, if you decide you want to make it free, then tax dollars will pay for it anyhow, so it's still part of a tax and your whininess is a moot point.

Please, people, just face it--you're adults, and sometimes you have requirments in order to do things. Yes, voting is a right, but it's also not mandatory. Here, check out these voter turnout stats...just over 50% of Americans even vote in a presidential election, and of that, I'm quite certain that less than 1% of these voters would be affected by voter ID laws.

Soooooo...I'm okay with with putting a (very) little bit of burden on these voters to get their paperwork and legal identification in order so that they can legally vote. It's a small price to pay for the increased confidence in our system of election (which is quite low right now).

I'm sure many women in Texas are proud to be Republicans and support this bill. You know why? Because they are sick of having Democrats steal elections with voter fraud. And let's be honest, if everything is legit it isn't hard to update your driver's license. It happens every day in every state.

Round objects. Prove it. Prove that a single solitary election anywhere has been stolen by the Democrats.

Ok, so I'm not a "Republican" but I'm not a "Democrat" either. Thats all bat# crazyness imo.
I would not use insurance as a leg to stand on if I was a democrat and the more and more I hear either side talk about taxing people more instead of less, the more I cant wait until the whole lot of them are recalled or voted out.

Who is "us"? Some political group?

Us are the people who rely on jobs for existence. My husband and I are retired. We are spending all of our savings helping family to stay off the streets and welfare because their jobs can't keep up.

Talking about thinking logically, I have an 86 year old neighbor who does not have a DL but yet, oddly enough, has a state issued ID card.

Just because you do not have a DL does not mean you cannot get a legal form of identification, which is pretty easy to get.

So, perhaps you wish to rethink your last sentence?

A handful of voter fraud cases doesn't warrant the actions by republican governments. If voter fraud was widespread I can see why they would want to change the law, but it isn't, but your told by the media it is.
