Making matters more difficult is Texas’ new voter ID law, expected to take effect in 2014, which opponents say is designed to disenfranchise minorities and other Democratic-leaning voters.
Under the new law, concealed-carry gun licenses are an acceptable form of ID at the polls; student ID cards are not.
So..>College students, women and minorities...
The end problem is that they remember these slights and demographics and time eventually defeat these tactics.
Backlash is a bitch come election day.
Student IDs are invalid for the simple reason that they are not issued by the State of Texas, and may not have any security practices associated with their issuance.
Any Federal or state photo ID (or one for which you had to show a photo ID) is acceptable.edit on 11-12-2013 by tovenar because: (no reason given)
Supporting identity documents include:

Do people who need a student i.d have to go through state and fed. background checks?
I believe here in Arizona you have to be a citizen to get a ccw.
How can I get my student ID?
During your New Student Conference, you will have the opportunity to get your photo student ID made. Please refer to the schedule for locations. You must have a current government-issued photo ID (drivers license, military ID, etc) to receive your ID Card.

So, this means 44% do not have ID? Who does not have a legal ID...illegals? criminals?
And you are supporting illegals and criminals for what reason?
Indigo5
Probably the same in TX, but according to the Texas DMV, you can SHOW a Canadian issued CCW for ID.

My wife didn't have her married name on her drivers license until it was time to renew it? Is she a criminal? Or are you just demanding a mandate that everyone own a car in order to vote? Or apply for a Concealed Carry Permit?
Stealing what elections? What voter fraud?
As Americans, we expect certain liberties and rights that were defined by by our forefathers in documents like the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. "We the people" expect that these fundamental rights will always be protected. However, in the current Democratic Presidential Primary, this has not been the case. We believe The Democratic National Committee (DNC) made a grave error by depriving American voters of their choice of Hillary Clinton as Democratic nominee. Senator Clinton, by all accounts, except caucuses, won the Primary Election and, therefore, should be the 2008 Democratic Nominee. That didn't happen, due largely to illegitimate and illegal acts. We have interviews of many accounts from caucus states recounting threats, intimidation, lies, stolen documents, falsified documents, busing in voters in exchange for paying for "dinners," etc. There are at least 2000 complaints, in Texas alone, of irregularities directed towards the Obama Campaign, that have lead to a very fractured and broken Democratic Party.

I'm sure many women in Texas are proud to be Republicans and support this bill. You know why? Because they are sick of having Democrats steal elections with voter fraud. And let's be honest, if everything is legit it isn't hard to update your driver's license. It happens every day in every state.

JOBS. Republican policies, including health insurance and low taxes, has always depended upon a good job market. Like 4% unemployment. If they have passed any legislation that promotes actual jobs instead of another tax cut, please show us.

If you are not competent enough to get an updated ID with your legal name on it, well, let's just say I hope you don't vote.

My 80 year old mother hasn't driven in 6 years and doesn't even have a drivers license but you don't think she should vote? I'll put up her capacity to think logically against yours anytime.
