You can shop around if you want to. I'm sure that quadruple bypass you need will wait for months and months while you do all that fine research. Sometimes you have to go ahead with what you need right now. Sometimes you can make an informed decision. And even if you do find the best possible doctor they're human and still make mistakes.

and a bunch of money is supposed to fix those mistakes?

would sueing the hair dressor bring your hair back after its cut?

which do you honestly think takes more "waiting around for months and months"....shopping around for a good doctor? or fighting a court battle? i think you know the answer.

My c-pap mask cost about $250 and never fit right.

I built one from a industrial respirator that fits a lot better and only cost me about $35.

The difference the c-pap mask is FDA approved and requires a prescription.

So when you get in a car wreck and need immediate medical care are you going to look for hospital reviews or just go to the closest one? Your family will be involved in the lawsuit while you are in the grave. My point is you will not always have time to do research.

Also I have a guestion for you. Why do you think I have not shopped around and gotten a second opinion? We have talked to two doctors a chiropractor and two dentists.

in a car wreck (or any other urgent care) your at the mercy of a local ER regardless of insurance.

the shopping around option is only viable if those other industries are first removed from the medical field. a doctor is more likely to do a better job if he knows his entire career is on the line evertime. If hes covered for any potential screw ups...well...easy come easy go.

same applies to most services in life.

when a third party enters the picture and will monetarily compensate any screw ups, quality of service almost inevitably goes down. to what extent depends on the screwup and the third party(insurer).

::edit:: sorry i forgot about your question. why do you think that i dont think youve shopped around? what i was talking about isnt really a suggestion for your current situation it was more my own portrayal of how the system would work with the insurance and other industries taken out of the equation.

Apologies to you ladylurker. Every time I comment on ATS somebody goes on the attack because something wasn't worded like they want or they take it wrong. I don't attack people on here as a rule so I don't like being attacked and as a result I get defensive. But I do agree with you. You can't have to much info.

Happy holidays to you
