It does about as well in the scenario as it did holding on to Hong Kong realistically.

Hong Kong was not a British Colony
Britain had a 99 year lease on Hong Kong. When the lease expired it was handed back to China.

Well I'll bite. I thought this thread was about joining our countries into one but you took it into a possible future scenario with China taking over as the worlds super power. There is little doubt concerning China's ambitions. There is a military conflict coming. I am not a war monger but I see no other way to preserve the free world from communist China. Since China's admission in 2001 into the WTO (World Trade Organization) they have snubbed every trade regulation there in. We live within a tsunami of Chinese consumer goods fueled by the multinational corporations who care only about profits. This has been the single largest reason for our economic reality today in both the United States and Canada if not the entire world. It's pretty easy to compete when you have 1.3 billion slaves at your disposal.

Apple, our darling little phones everyone can't live without employees 26 000 people in California and 700 000 in China where all their products are manufactured. They are worth billions and use slave labour to make it and we all line up to buy it. We need to wake up folks.

The large players in our mist like the Bilderberger types and the Bohemian grove types are feudal lords today as they were hundreds of years ago. Back then we could make a run on the castle and have their heads but today it's quite a bit different because they own governments, armies and police forces. We are done to them. They need new consumers. This is what terms emerging economies and globalization is all about. Even war to them is a mechanism to profit.

What a mess and how deep does the rabbit hole go. We can't solve it all here on ATS but we can inform ourselves. Stop buying goods from China. Walmart is Chinamart so stop shopping there. Capitalism, socialism, communism and all the other ism's are not the answer. We need something new. Competition isn't helping either. Sustainability might be a starting point to consider.

I don't overly buy into the whole "don't buy from China they will take over thing"

North America has always been the place for refugees, even if you look at the natives you find Haplo groups from all over the world.

The next wave of immigration in a Continent shaping way is Asian regardless of what anyone does they have the numbers and money just like at one point Europeans were 5 times as numerous as people on this continent, our population control bs is the real issue.

China could cause that exodus without eating 1/100th of it's population to displace it. Japan has Reactors... one Missile and another Fukushima in the south, you might get 2-3x that number having to leave, these are Islands...and peninsulas, contaminate them people have to get on boats

China knows what the USA does when it wins a war, you become an ally, get rebuilt... Japan bounced back better than before...

So is there even a fear of fighting us, 50-60-70 Million refugees of Asian decent (at least) and if you loose your an ally lol?

Canada don't got but 36 Million people and 20% are already from overseas...

And we have a lot of abortions, people who are limited by law, land area, resources etc from having children, will have a lot of babies generations 1 and 2 in the new world...

When you say "It's going to happen" i am afraid it is quite the reverse.
The Crown will never give up the land, in fact they carn't. It is written in statute that it has to be passsed onto the next Monarch.
Even if the US or any other country wanted to buy it, they would never have enough money to do so.

In a personal perspective, having a fiancé in Canada. It would make travels and immigrating process so much easier. It would be nice, if we could have a EU like system. There are many who travel in and out of Canada/US, doing this would make traveling and immigrating anywhere in North America seamless.

But of course there is always sovereignty and national pride to come across.
