Imagine you have a product that you know is harmful, your customers know it's harmful, and it's obvious that if you changed it you'd lose business. But you'll also eventually lose business as the health-conscious movement grows. What to do?

Simple.

Because people thought french fries were healthy?

Simple, bottom line. Cheaper gets pushed harder.

Companies have customer-targeting down to a science and use our subconscious against us to make them money.

In other words, this is absolutely possible and more than likely currently ongoing at this very moment on some level.

This brings me to a different path in this fry conspiracy.

Notice how you said they will absorb less oil? Well that is not really because they are cutting costs or trying to serve healthier choices.

It is I believe possible they are making these new fries purposely blah tasting. They want them to not taste as good as regular classic fries. They want you to "Want" to put more addicting stuff onto it in order to make them taste great again.

You see BK can not make their fries taste better because it would only increase costs and it would create a less healthy meal choice.

So you got the customers on one side, and you got the shareholders and owners on the other .

What to do?

They had the brainstorm Idea, to make a blah fry in order for you to use dip, dressing, condiments or any other yummy addicting feel good sauce.

This way they can technically go out the door healthier and cheaper, yet at the same time know that the customer is going to be adding a whole bunch of yummy goodness on them to make them taste good.

Therefore profits will rise, because customers will make their blah fries really good.

Costs will be lowered by less flavor materials being used for production and preparation.

This concludes my extended BK fries conspiracy theory.

Interesting theory. I heard in their marketing material that this will also save them in oil costs, since they don't absorb as much they won't be using as much. So it will definitely save them a little money, at the cost of taste. Hmmm....

The logic doesn't quite follow from a marketing perspective though. They should really want to give their customers a great tasting product. People load the "bad" fries up with sauces anyway. Not sure how substituting a cardboard like fry would help them in any way, unless it's eventually forced on us as the only fry option.

I go for the european (Dutch) style ketchup + mayo mix for my fries. Try it...
It's so yummy I'd get censored for using the words I'd like to use to describe just how good it is.

There is NO conspiracy. I worked at Burger King for the past 6 years. ( I quit last year for a new better job) and I can explain easily why this happens.

The Fries, as stated above are all dumped into a "segregated" bin. The bin is rounded at the bottom to ensure the fry scoop, picks up the maximum amount of fries with each scoop. The divider, is a separate square piece of metal that slides into the slots pre made into the vat. (You can adjust how wide you want the divide to be).

The square divider has a gap on the bottom of it that if you scoop sideways smaller fries or even regular fries can cross over into the other section. This occasionally happens when scooping out the fries to throw away (when they are expired). Or if you make alot of fries where the scoop over fills and pushes excess fries sideways.

No, but if given a choice between an known bad option, and one this is supposed to be healthier, then many forces come into play prompting your decision.

But yeah, cheaper gets pushed. These satisfries are being pushed. Hence:

So you're just a shill for BK? Got it. Heh heh heh.

But seriously. I worked the fryer for a couple years and we had a rounded divider. No cross contamination due to some people really getting mad about having onion rings in their fries (allergies or something).

Your divider was obviously provided by the NSA, or the FDA. I don't know which, check the tattoo on the back of your manager's neck.

I was the store manager...

And in regards to your rounded divider, we did have them as well, but when Burger King went through the "healthy food" change . (no joke) They supplied us with all new equipment, and a new fry vat was one of those additions. (as well as digital displays, smoothie machines, new ice cream machine etc.) (this was about 2 1/2 years ago when they changed everything around.)

Dude, I remember throwing away so many expired fries, fish patties, chicken tenders or nuggets or whatever, and everything else down to burger patties and buns. A ton of food.

PEOPLE. Fast food joints keep pre-cooked food in a holding pattern for a while, hoping you'll come in and order it before it goes bad. If you don't, it gets trashed like it's nothing. It's ridiculous and wrong when you consider how many people on this planet would love to have even low quality protein and foods.

I always order something special, like no pickles or something, and that forces them to make it fresh. Although you'll still get a burger and bun that may have been sitting for up to 20 minutes. You just won't get the whopper that's been sitting with all the wet ingredients on it for 10-15 minutes befor you even show up. Think about that. Jesus, and I still eat there...

That was a great line, I wont forget that one for awhile haha.

Really this thread is hilarious and possible in some respects.

Its always the most mundane things where you can find some of the deepest ideas.

No real major controversy....well...IDK.
The fry divider issue may be heating up.

Will see where it goes....

I liked it too, great line.

The fry divider conspiracy is going to blow up to epic proportions! You can't even handle the full truth! It's bigger than JFK.

Hey can you see their oven from the front register?

This would allow you to spy secretly on them.

Also other readers out there look too.

This will be enlightening.

"They supplied" the new equipment? So these recent divider changes were mandated by corporate? This thing goes all the way to the top!

Generally you can't see the broiler, it's blocked by the burger making station, with the "warmer" in between. The warmer is where they put the burgers and buns that they sent through the broiler to wait until they need to make a sandwich. At peak hours they make a certain amount of whoppers, cheesebugers, etc for people to order. A hold time is put on the wrapper. They're supposed to check these hold times regularly and throw away the really old food first. Then it rotates all day. On off hours you're way more likely to get a fresh burger, but you'll have a wait a few extra minutes. Not a big deal to me, but when there's 10 cars in the drive thru they need to employ these techniques to get the line moving.

Just FYI.

false... the "warmer" ... really called the bun steamer is no more. they removed it with the upgrades 2 1/2 years ago as stated before with the change.

So they make every burger patty and bun fresh now? How do they keep up with the lunch rush? Did they speed up the broiler? It took forever to get the product out and ready.

Mind = Blown

We used to keep 5 whoppers and 5-10 cheeseburgers in the warmer inside the buns, then pulled them out when needed. At peak hours we couldn't even keep up. I am SO glad they changed that though because when it slowed down they'd sit in there for 20 minutes.

Mmmm, BK sounds pretty good right about now...

BTW, thanks for your expertise in this discussion. I was curious about their current practices.

Still, the satisfries are a global conspiracy that will consume mankind. Believe it.

There is a reason that every damned US military base in the world has a BK on it...

EXPERIMENTATION on a captive and often homesick audience...

I haven't touched their swill in years, but I still get this annoying nauseated twitch anytime I see one of their ads...

The real secrets aren't on "Anthrax Island"... no, no my friends...

Top Secret sauce?

Makes ya wonder...

It's McD that has the special secret sauce, but I think it's just Thousand Island salad dressing or something...

Anthrax island, WTH? That sounds like a pleasant vacation spot.
