Brewed not invented, fermenting jugs have been found dating back from 10,000 BC.
If you are from northern european it is in our genes that we can digest booze better than say asian people, I have an inkling that all this religious nonsense came from drunk people having visions.
Hic..It was a burning bush Hic and it spoke to me Hic.

Leave some apples in a barrel too long, they ferment--not sure that was any accident--adam probably got eve drunk one night on hard cider. I can concure regarding northern EUs my grandfather was Scottish, drank a fifth of scotch a day and passed away at 94 years of age.

Moderation is the key to a lot of things in life...not all...but, for sure......drinking.

Just my current words of wisdom.

I'll be at the bar if you need me for anything further.

I don't drink anymore. If I do I get sick. Stupid pills.

I recently started taking a drug, that prevents the alcohol getting broke down by the liver.
Only 10 minutes later and I get the worst hangover imaginable,or so they say. I didn't try yet.

The reason for me to prevent me from drinking, is because I'm weak. I've got a history of addictions behind me, and I don't want to start another. I already enjoy the mornings, when I wake up all fresh and fit.
That alone makes it worth it.

I do miss a cold beer though.

Hi all , ild like to say hello to everyone this site has kept me coming back the last year or so but i dont usually reply, i just read the posts. I know what im going to say is probably not what ur meaning but i think alcohol is probably why we are still going the way we are today, not in a bad meaning, but if we werent boiling water to produce alcohol we probably would have all died off years ago, humans in nature tend to be pollutive, and water supplies would have killed us off a long time ago. hope u guys/girls/ppl understand where im coming from

I love reading this. I hit my 30 day mark today. Alcohol free. There is a kinder, softer approach to not drinking other than taking medicine. It comes with the tools necessary to live a whole and peaceful life. The suggested guidelines provided can open up a realm of spirituality that teaches the (ab)user how to deal with life without needing these addictive substances.

Stopping drinking has brought me back to my spiritual self. I wish the best for you, may your weakness fade with each sunset.

Thank you. Unfortunately, the drinking was not the problem.

I started drinking a lot, as a replacement.. I did learn how to change the way I walk through life though.
I've been working on that for 4 months now.
I asked for the meds 4 weeks ago. It helps me to spend my time useful, instead of drinking, when I feel the need to get intoxicated.
Eventually I'll learn a new habit instead.

anyway, I'm feeling pretty good lately. So...

God gave us food, and we need it to live. Gluttony, however, is one of the seven deadly sins.

Hiya, Akra

Fun topic, S/F! In the USA, alcohol is MUCH MORE restricted than in the rest of the (non-Muslim) world, as far as I know.

In Europe, if people are drinking/using substances, they (used to, at least) work toward Harm Reduction rather than complete, forever sobriety. This makes more sense to me than the "white-knuckle sobriety" of programs that say "You can NEVER drink again."

(Of course, SOME PEOPLE are truly unable to moderate their drinking - I feel bad for them.)

I drink beer - daily. OCCASIONALLY I'll have some wine, or a couple of Margaritas.

I don't know where the "taboo" came from, but I think it's a drag.

besides destroying organs and brain cells, i guess it works good for weeding out the idiots of the world that use it and that's a blessing.

Generally idiots tend to weed themselves out given time and opportunity. I think the rest of your statement is way off base, unless you're talking about someone who puts away a fifth a day?

it's a verifiable well known fact that alcohol is toxic to the body but hey drink up brah!!!!

Alcohol (Ethanol) is toxic if you can't metabolize it, which isn't the case for most humans. Other types of alcohol are dangerous up to lethal.

Ethanol has been used in medicines for ages as an antitussive (suppressant).

so I stand by my original statement, if you drink a fifth a day, yes it's toxic.

Heres another verifiable fact my friend...

Moderate drinking is good for the heart! Studies have shown it can increase the amount of "good cholesterol" in the body which helps prevent harmful blood clots and helps keep blood flowing smoothly through our bodies, reducing risks of heart attack and stroke.

In fact, moderate drinking can increase "good cholesterol" levels by as much as 20%, if it's accompanied by a healthy diet and regular physical activity, says Harvard researcher Eric Rimm, DrS.

www.medicinenet.com...

And theres plenty of other health benefits to moderate drinking....

So much for your verifiable info eh...

Alcohol in moderation is fine, IMO. In the excess it is venom and it's easy to cross over the line of moderation, for some more so than others.

I'm glad it exists though!

Moderation is the word most people have a problem with. I've seen the effects of too much alcohol ruin more people's lives, jobs, and families than any other substance on Earth. And the people with the worst problem don't want to talk about it. It's a taboo subject, because it's an argument they know they can't win. I detest alcohol.

Alcohol is a double edged sword. On the one hand it is a poison ( although compared to mehanol no where near as toxic as other related chemicals), it is addictive and yet in the middle ages, all posh people lived healthier life on beer as the water was boiled, making it cleaner than running water. There was even "baby beer".
I had heard that the lack of beer in the middle east encouraged the strong coffees instead (someone can put me right here).

God gave us beer, but we created Alcoholics Anonymous.
