I never mentioned any particular scenario. If anyone is put into a life and death situation because of mass chaos/anarchy/ some SHTF occurrence, that's something different. You may be forced to fire on someone who is from your own country. If they are actively trying to kill you, you have to defend yourself. That has nothing to do with if you're in a set of BDU's or not. Anyone who is faced with that choice of either fight or die, has to make the choice. That's you, me, everyone posting on this thread and so on. It wouldn't have anything to do with your nationailty or employer, it would have to do with basic survival of you and your family.

In that scenario, I'd pull the trigger, you'd pull the trigger and most others that want to live and have a chance at rebuilding their lives would pull the trigger.

Another question should be:

If a superior officer issues an illegal order that would cause the death of American citizens for the purpose of reducing opposition to that illegal activity, how many superior officers will you execute and will you hunt down and kill the the original issuing officer?

LOL. 85% might initially shoot or fire rounds at citizens,
but after citizens were firing back and inflicting fatal
causalities on their fellow soldiers, they would quickly change sides.

I bet less than 2% of current armed service persons would fire on American citizens.

You bet right, although the years of stoking the race-hate and race-baiting was for the reason so blacks will have little conscience to kill whites and visa-versa.

A few units won't do squat there was about a1 company strength element at Ft Carson.They didn't train MOUT ops just tactics and fimiliraization with our weapons.
We don't follow rule books we just learn from them.

I am sure you are versed in your area, but you have no idea what your superiors plan until it happens. You are not the only military/former military on this site.

If my commander told me to fire on a civilian, I wouldn't do it. We are soldiers, bred and designed to engage ENEMIES of the united states, don't get DOMESTIC confused with American citizens, the domestic issue could very well be a very dangerous and violent gang killing people in a certain part of the city. In that case, YES, I would help out my fellow American and take out the domestic terrorist who are terrorizing our fellow citizens.
No, do not turn this statement around an say, will what if they LIE and say peaceful Americans ARE the violent gangs, because today's soldiers are smarter then yesterdays average joe, we could tell the difference.

They don't, thus their answer means nothing. Clearly this question was aimed at current and former military on this site.

But, I guess this was aimed at everybody, but its hard to gauge unless you've been in and see how things go down. To suggest otherwise is foolish and I wouldn't be surprised if a poster quotes me and says, "well its a hypothetical scenario, I don't have to be military to answer", I guess, its your opinion after all, just don't speak for the military as a whole, speak FOR YOURSELF.

I would never shoot an unarmed, armed citizen of America. This country is my family, my fellow military members on ATS are my brothers and sisters in arms. We are one.

Lawful orders, Constitution, right, wrong, or not, it all boils down to what an individual is willing to accept as his/her future. There's no question that the current government is acting outside its charter, and is being supported by the supreme court no less. They say they're legal, and I say they're not. Nothing will get resolved peacefully beyond that.

i would think though if soldiers were to ordered to fire on civilians there would surely be a mechanism in place to make sure soldiers do as they are ordered without question!! i mean what if for instance a soldier decides he doesn't want to follow said order and walks away...maybe the threat of death or punishment for said soldier would not be enough to deter him but what if those threats of death or punishment were relayed back to said soldiers own family??...i realise that is an extreme but if there ever was a scenario where soldiers were to be firing against civilians it must be a pretty extreme situation in the first place and i am pretty sure the people who run the show have every angle covered to cover their own butts without any backlash...the morality of those pulling the strings questionable to say the least....

One of many contingencies... Americans revolting against this government, in that one I could see many or a majority refusing the order.

In an orchestrated collapse where violence and chaos are likely... Your commanding officer says something like here they come, hold your fire, then all hell breaks loose and you hear fire at will, fire at will... You will.

Of course they would fire upon you, especially the home grown terrorist people. The ones not happy with government, the guys who are on here always complaining and threatening to do something.

I doubt the government watches this site though...most likely think the majority are crazy, only keyboard warriors...etc which I would agree with.

This should help some of you to see that the majority of our Active Duty, Reserve and Guard troops would not obey orders to fire on innocent American Citizens. Furthermore there is less love among service members for the current President than what we see for him in the Civilian population.

I served as a Medic from 2002 to 2010. The consensus in 2004 from many of my fellow Soldiers was that electing Senator Kerry as our next Commander-in-Chief would not be good for the country or for the military. How can you trust a guy with a questionable military record? Not to mention that famous speech of his that had "Blue Falcon" written all over it. I can fully imagine the disapproval in the ranks when he got chosen as SECDEF.

With easy access to social media and Internet while off-duty, I am sure that many Soldiers have seen how Veterans are being poorly treated by the current POTUS policies and have taken note of how ridiculously inept the Syria issue was handled.

They wouldn't stand for any violent action against American Civilians even if President Bush had ordered it. If I were still Active Duty, I wouldn't either.

I should just mention that this same question was posed to British soldiers in 2008.

Of course, it would sort of depend. What if it were purely assistance of law enforcement, as can happen sometimes? SOCOM is permitted to assume a training role for LEOs in certain cases although you're not supposed to physically engage.

Or if there was Katrina II, and I was deployed to assist rebuilding something and you shot at me, I'm not sure I'd mind a lot firing back.

The nagging thought that keeps creeping into my head is this.. a good amount of ex-military end up joining the police force when they get out of the service. This is just something that has been common for a long time.

Now, look at police shootings, brutalities, etc. that are common place right now in our law enforcement agencies. Is every cop bad, of course not, and I would never infer that.

I am just pointing out that there are certain individuals, and I dare say not the minority.. that have a different mindset from your average joe.

I know plenty of good cops. I know plenty that should not have a firearm in their possession. If you think every single soldier would not follow orders to attack what has been told to them is a terroristic milita, identified threat, etc. - then well, you are burying your head in the sand and hoping it all blows over.

These are the ones that worry me. They should worry you too.

The guy on "Coast to Coast" last night calls some of them "13ers",cops who joined for their aggression.I assume I am one too but I know better than to become law enforcement,and I have honor in my father's name.
I also become a bit aggressive when a lesser individual is being oppressed and would enjoy harming the oppressor.
To me that's fun,but I am also an artist so I am weird.

We all tell them and tell them repeatedly so just LISTEN.

Hell no the military wouldn't fire on their citizens. EVERY single military serving relative, friend, acquaintance that I've known have all said the same thing considering their employers; That it's all a bunch of B.S. hoop-jumping that they can't stand.

They only thing any of them held precious, would be each other, and their FAMILIES. You know, the "people back home" they are fighting for? That's us.

It has happened in the past. I am really not sure if much has changed. I do have my doubts about the authenticity of these surveys.

they probably used this as a way to suss out their chances of succeeding in getting the military to do these things.

probably why they're putting microchips in them nowadays and using organic robotoids to do their dirty work, no soul, no care.

i mean why would they even ask this if it weren't a possibility? they don't just ask these sorts of questions for fun. there's always an agenda behind everything they do.
