They ASK people to stay indoors...until they know if they caught the people who did this...how many shooters etc. It is a VOLUNTARY request...JUST LIKE BOSTON...NOT a LOCK-DOWN...Military state yada yada.

No, its a lockdown. Regardless of what you believe, like you said you are not even there, and people that are there have said its a lockdown.

"Lockdown" is a generic term. The official status is "Shelter in place" which is a VOLUNTARY REQUEST...without legal penalty or fine for disregarding. Just like Boston. And when a "School" goes on "Lockdown" it means no one leaves, buses are cancelled, doors are locked and no one enters without a high-level of scrutiny. Any parent that wants to pick up a child can show ID, enter the building and leave with their child.

Live from the scene:

As of 1317 hours, we are still on "FPCON Delta: shelter in place. Two additional shooters possibly in the area". We can't even leave the building to walk to our cars.

Just bumping your post up to the next page. I have been talking about you to my son and family. I totally feel you are safe, but yeah, not a great situation to be in. Were you concerned at first about a possible bomb or anything? I was wondering earlier if the shooter had wrapped them self in explosives. Glad that was not the case or many more lives would have been lost today.

OH its OK antonioparis, you can leave to go home, indigo5 said its ok.
When you leave go to the law enforcement that will be pointing guns at you, tell them to go online to abovetopsecret.com if they need confirmation that indigo5 said its all okay.

I dont mean to come off rude, but really.

A "Shelter in Place" where I work is not voluntary. It is mandatory. I think its voluntary if you are not on base. But I am on base and they won't even let us leave the building.

I think it would make me crazy not being able to get out and then not knowing how long you have to sit would try my patience. On top of that you have to figure out how/when you're going to get home. Sounds like imprisonment to me, yikes! But, you are safe and that is good. I do wish you well and at least you can get online still.

I would love to see some parents take there children out of school during a lock down

It happens all the time in these scenarios, as is their right. Some parents choose to disregard the "stay in your homes" VOLUNTARY request and go pick up their children from school...all the fricken time...You guys seem to need to disregard reality to fit your "Police-State" theme...which ironically involves the false "fear mongering" that you claim to be combatting.

Geez...

Antonioparis is live ON THE SCENE. He said its a lockdown, are you reading these posts or what?

Geezus.

You do not understand what "Lockdown" means...It is a general term. Technically it is "Shelter in place"...a voluntary request by police to families/homes and "Lockdown" for schools is a "protocol" for securing the building and protecting the children...

Neither are "State-Of-Emergency"...neither have legal implications for those that choose to disobey, no-ones "freedoms" are legally impinged upon.

Cops are hot right now, they will shoot indiscriminately if they think you are a threat. Best to use this opportunity to hunker down and order a pizza delivered...

You must really hate pizza delivery people...

Right now there is no information about the motive.
Seven people are dead.
Two shooters still at large.
All this in an important navy compound (not a base really, more like a ministry?).
Given the global situation, why should America be an exception?
Maybe obtaining gas masks for your family is not a bad idea?

This is an attack on the American Military and Military Personal on a Military Base in America. Thats an Act of War

Are you saying that bombing / attacking civilians is not an act of war? Like if the US blows up a house in Afghanistan it isn't an at of war. Attacking a mall or office building in the US isn't? But a military base makes it war?

"Are you saying that bombing / attacking civilians is not an act of war?" yes
"Like if the US blows up a house in Afghanistan it isn't an at of war." no
"Attacking a mall or office building in the US isn't?" no
"But a military base makes it war?" yes

the two no's are acts of terror.
the two yes's are acts of War.

edit on 9/16/2013 by BobAthome because: attacking Military Personel are Acts of War on ones Military,,foreign or domestic.

"The President has been briefed several times about the unfolding situation at the Washington Navy Yard by Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa Monaco and Deputy Chief of Staff Alyssa Mastromonaco. The President directed his team to stay in touch with our federal partners, including the Navy and FBI, as well as the local officials. We urge citizens to listen to the authorities and follow directions from the first responders on site."

Official WH response.

Maybe someone will go out for a cigarette and see the shooter...

Fatality count is up to Six and they expect more.

HEY!!! Are you supposed to be on ATS right now??? LOL, you better get back to work or we will have to change your ATS name to sneekypete!

No really good to know you can still communicate with the outside, if this had been worse or escalated, your cell phone and lap top if that's what you have would be your lifeline.

Have you connected with family and friends? are people worried about you who you know?

Update from scene: Just received an internal email from Force Protection Police: Possible gunmen still in the Anacostia area. One wearing a military beret and the other possibly in military fatigues.

Military will not let us leave the base because gunmen might be somewhere along the highway right outside the gate.
