Russian video reportedly shows gay student beaten and raped at gunpoint

A series of video clips currently making the rounds on the clip-sharing app WhatsApp purportedly shows an Uzbek student in Russia being forced at gunpoint to admit that he is gay, then being stripped, beaten and raped with a bottle by a gang of homophobic thugs. Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported that the videos show a terrified young man weeping as he is assaulted by the group of men.

RFE/RL said that the student was forced to identify himself and state that he is homosexual before the gang stripped him of his clothes and burned them. A man who claimed to be involved with the beating told RFE/RL’s Uzbek service that the student’s tormentors believed that they were punishing him for his own good.

I made a similar thread regarding LGBT youth being tortured and beaten by other thugs a few months back and people claimed it was an isolated incident. That violence against LGBT was rather unlikely in this scenario, because they were simply passing legislation based on values like marriage etc..

What a crock of crap.

If the state allows and actively promotes hatred versus a group of people, then people in return will act hateful towards that group. It's happened countless times, with countless groups and this sort of thing will only continue and get worse.

While Putin is busy telling Obama he should not attack Syria and playing 'peace maker' perhaps he should pay a little more close attention to what his own political party and people are encouraging among each other.

Some people are outraged by the failure of other humans to act as nature intended. That kind of attitude can't be changed or controlled. The best we can hope for is punishment of the resulting behavior.

I know! This whole gay thing of his is really a deal-breaker. Putin is an otherwise pretty rad alpha dude right out of a spy movie who you want to be yelling at your president but...

What a lame way to just ruin it for everybody. I swear he's doing it just to confuse the GOP.

Nature did intend for a certain percentage of the population to be gay. Nature did not intend on humanity using their violence to dispense social "justice" towards others.

Social prejudice is not natural. Gay folks are.

I disagree. It is clear what nature intended by virtue of the design of the sexual organs. Procreation only occurs with a man and a woman. For whatever reason, gays don't follow the programming.

What I don't understand is why do we always hear about these people lashing out at other people because they are gay, but then use foreign objects to "violate" them?

Maybe it's just me, but that seems to be a common occurrence in these extremes cases of hate and violence.

Side note: Crazy people will always be out there doing crazy things. I don't think Putin is relevant in any way to this event.

He's encouraging them with his silence and his government policies.

There's a developing culture in Russia where it's OK to hurt people for their sexuality. It's the governments job to stand up to such violent shifts in public behavior when they are unfounded and violate the most basic of human rights.

And you wonder why I call Putin a hypocrite.

Homosexuality was a crime in Soviet Russia. The "new' laws are the same thing. I expect this type of behavior from an Ex-KGB Agent.

This OP says it all.

Mr. Putin’s campaign against lesbian, gay and bisexual people is one of distraction, a strategy of demonizing a minority for political gain taken straight from the Nazi playbook.

In 1936 the world attended the Olympics in Germany. Few participants said a word about Hitler’s campaign against the Jews. Supporters of that decision point proudly to the triumph of Jesse Owens, while I point with dread to the Holocaust and world war. There is a price for tolerating intolerance.

Interesting thread. I had thought of starting a similar thread. I was thinking in broader terms. Society as a whole seems to be rude, intolerant and just plain mean spirited. People no longer have a 'live and let live' attitude. Some may argue, we never had that but, my observation is it is getting worse. Those that insist on tolerance, show a distinct intolerance for others that disagree with them on various ideas. I've also noticed a 'mob like' mentality. When someone makes a statement, a group of people then start 'shouting' them down. Somehow we've gotten to the belief that an idea or opinion, supported by a 'majority' automatically means the minority is ignorant. I've seen this in society and unfortunately on the internet, too. Let me give an example. Just using ATS as that example (since we are currently on ATS) I've seen more than once a thread that is posted that could be controversial in nature. Instead of replying, "I have a different point of view because of A, B and C." we start seeing replies like "You need to stop posting" and just general name calling. I've even seen groups gang up on an OP and post multiple questions one after the other and then demand that the OP "isn't answering the questions" or is too slow to answer questions. How can we expect someone to answer 5..6..7..or more posts 'immediately'? It has become a gang mentality in an attempt to overwhelm someone with unreasonable demands and then blame them when they can't keep up. Even worse is actually acting like an OP should be online 24/7 and never sleep so they can get their answer as soon as they posted the question. IMO society as a whole is just rude now.

In another controversial step, Mr Putin also signed a bill imposing jail terms and fines on those who offend religious believers, seen as a response to last year's anti-Putin stunt by the punk band Pussy Riot in a Moscow cathedral.

The anti-propaganda law introduces fines of up to 5,000 rubles ($156) for citizens who disseminate information aimed at minors "directed at forming nontraditional sexual setup" or which may cause a "distorted understanding" that gay and heterosexual relations are "socially equivalent", the official publication of the bill showed.

Opponents have called the bill homophobic and so vaguely defined that it would inevitably be used arbitrarily and stir anti-gay sentiment in the country. However, it sailed through parliament and Mr Putin had promised in advance that he would sign it.

Vladimir Putin signs anti-gay propaganda bill

It sure as hell does! If its alright for the Government, its alright for those dishing out their "own" brand of justice.

Hell, Im surprised they didn't get a medal from Putin for this!

Its sad how Russians are not asking for this law to be rescinded.

Tough topic to discuss. Russian society isn't chock full of liberals to promote the openly gay agenda and what is happening is the 99% are reacting to the 1%. As bad as it is perceived and actually is as regarding a humanitarian standpoint it honestly is nothing more than human nature running it's course in absence of government involvement.

Those currently adopting gay culture and making it their own here in America are not doing so out of tolerance or the evolution of the human mind, they are doing it for political and public spectacles to raise their influence and political clout through numbers. Our culture is not ready to embrace the gay agenda as it is being sold.

Gay unions, those benefits that apply under state and federal law and fair treatment under the unofficial social contract are all things I agree with but it becomes a classic case of give an inch and take a mile. It would seem now the gay community isn't ok with savoring victories for any measure of time and must insist continually on ramping up propaganda and intensity on the very morals of what our society is.

Name your line in the sand...... Adoption, Boy Scouts....... At some point, the sexulization of children and insisting on labeling them to further an agenda is disgusting, sick and immoral and perhaps the Russians would not like to have this type of argument at this time within their country.

I most certainly do not advocate for violence nor the persecution of any subtype of people but I also must convey my opinion on how out of control the gay agenda has progressed here in America. Faced with what has happened here, others may adopt rules similar to Russias thus making the progress perceived in the United States null in the rest of the world in large part because of the habitual line steppers on the front lines of said agenda.

Latent fears and desires. It is why it's called homoPHOBIA. The fear part comes from having to look at your own latent preferences. When jocks beat up gay dudes and strip them naked... obviously they are exploiting the moment to live out some fantasies of their own.

Same reason football players slap each other on the ass.

Procreation is not always favorable for the survival of a species. There are 1,500 species that exhibit homosexual behavior in nature. I'm pretty convinced that the ratio of gay to straight people fluctuates according to need. Just like certain species will change genders if there is a demand for it.

Our collective biological human subconscious is much smarter than you give it credit for.

You can debate the nature of social interactions within the human and animal world and how species interact with each other but please don't try to insinuate that nature intended a gay world. It's ludicrous and comes off as patently desperate.

This should be a lesson to people in America.

Whenever you try to vilify and demonize something, you are going to have groups of idiots that take it way too far.

So for all those that want to make out "Liberals", "Conservatives", "Socialists", "Tea Partiers", or any other group you disagree with out to be evil vile enemies....think about the potential consequences first.
