Attack of the emoticons...I'm boycotting them

I appreciate all the efforts that members here have put into creating the new emoticons. I really do.

And now we have the Derp emoticons. Still doesn't work for me. Maybe it's just me. eh?

Emoticons are pretty much a established part of the internet. Why is ATS trying to fix something that wasn't broke? Emoticons are supposed to emote, pass on a subtle message along with the written word or even strengthen it.

Is it a bandwidth thing? I like the new format of ATS with the exception of this one feature.

Who's with me? Just my opinion.

There are a couple threads out there that have multiple emoticons on them. But this isn't my site and I do try to play by the rules.

< Pitchfork in hand > bring back the old emotos!! Why in 2013 with all our tech savy here, can we not transfer the old ones? I like the action of em too.

I found a fontset with smilies that was more standard that the versions included at launch.

These are placeholder -- with a few new ones -- until the member smilie project bears fruit.

Wow. .. . It looks like no one knows.. . ...

The new site design was geared towards making things more accessible to new technologies.

Namely IPhones, IPads, and whatever "I" stuff comes along.

So that the emoticons could be more easily seen, they were Engineered with the "Big Picture" in mind.

I think this was mentioned in one of the 5/3 threads.

Can't they just enlarge the old ones a tad? We like the action too. I know this is nitpickin' so I am not too concerned, just an opinion on the subject.

No.

With the possibility of 3, 4, 5, or more color schemes in the future (there's a member project to create alternative color schemes), the ideal emoticons/smilies are a font face.

As a font, they also scale smoothly.

And as a font, all smilies are one simple download that gets cached on any device. Individual GIF smilies are not cached on most mobile devices... so if a page is full of smilies, that's lots of open HTTP calls just for the emoticons. It's not modern design/UX best-practices.

Since the new emotes, images are not displaying properly. Or is it a different change? same time, but I have to reload pages now that have images or they cut off. Beezers chickeneggscream is an example.
