On one hand, I'm glad he's getting congressional approval before doing anything, but at the same time, what he's doing is covering his own backside.

He's supposedly convinced of the evidence, prepared to attack but will graciously allow Congress to decide if we go in, thus freeing him from any blame, should an attack be approved (which he will push hard for), and in the event that everything goes south (which it most likely will), he can then blame Congress for the outcome, or take credit if all goes perfectly (which it will not).

That is called waffling or flip-flop. The new Sec of State has trained him well, but he is not a master yet.

I guess now we wait to hear Russia and China's response to this! The next few weeks should be interesting. Predictions on "when this will take place".

Just a question here, is it worrisome that well... For a "simple" missile airstrike its taking a lot of fuzz...

Lol, well they did approve that propaganda bill. Now seems like a good time to make use of it.

Am I the only one throwing up over his snakey attitude. At least he's going to Congress... He didnt have a choice. I think Russia and friends scare him. Or ... They should! He has no support from anyone... O wait... Privately he says he does... He should have more private support from more then just Isreal! lol

Notice how he said Isreal first? lol

Master move by Obama.

Congress to deliberate whenever they get back.

Boehner agreed to it so I am not sure what Wolf Blitzer and his CNN cronies are blabbering about "rolling the dice without the Republican vote". The republicans (House maj) will vote for it, trust me.

This thing is going down with little fight from the remaining groups. Very nicely played, Obama, irrespective of the outcome.

Seems like Obama thinks USA is mightier than UN and he doesn't need their approval. He has already decided he is going there, no matter did they really use chemical weapons or not. And doesn't care what Russia thinks.

Putin already stated that USA should not take military action against Syria before there is proof about use of chemical weapons.

And its ridiculous that he talks about "national security" when there is only civil war or genocide happening. I don't see how this could be threat to USA. But Israel...

Oh thank Heavens for that address.

I, for one, am relieved it's going to Congressional Debate....I've been advocating ever since I first heard about this for a deeper look into this matter and my mind is at rest.

I now he probably won't read this, but THANK YOU SIR!

Actually we are supposed to be a representative democracy....but we've declined to authoritarian democracy. If authoritarian and democracy go together.

Not at all. Congress backed Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War, War on Terror/Afghanistan, Iraq War and a few other actions that had military support such as the capture of Noriega.

Hopefully congress will block this in light of US and worldwide public disapproval ratings.

I missed most of it so I was hoping someone could fill me in. Did he say he spoke to Assad? Because it was my understanding that is what this conference was about. If so can someone fill me in on what Assad said?

Its up to the american public now. If you don't want another war pester your representatives:

-Phone them
-Email them
-Write a letter

Few people outside of cranks ever do. If they suddenly get buried under an avalanche of correspondence from angry voters it will affect their thinking. I'm convinced that played some part in what happened in the UK parliament.

Over to you chaps.
