Well, login in as normal, then change the www in your address bar to 53.

Every now and then I use the "this post" feature to bookmark a particular post for later reading.

The "link" with the pushpin icon is the same thing, but now more standardized to what perma-links or direct-links are referred to across the web.

Thanks for asking -
I've changed to pc view - it still doesn't change there's a great deal of empty space to the RIGHT beside the post area.

That's because your level as a member hides most ads throughout the site. Empty areas to the right, in member-view are because the ads have been negated. Non-members or members who haven't contributed as much will see a tall ad in that space.

Can anyone tell me how to get to my account on my mobile??

I'm using my laptop at the moment on the new design and I clicked on the arrow and it gave me the list with the account link on it but on my mobile there is no arrow. It looks completely different..

(On my phone) There is a little box in the top left corner. I clicked on that and it gave me a drop down menu with myATS and new topics and what not but no account link. I want to get on there so I can change it to a non desktop version to see if the new design will work on my phone.

My phone is a Nokia N8 if that helps.

Would it not have been simpler to make an app for phones.. guess its a bit late for that now...

Not really. And, I'm a staunch believer in open standards and the future of run-anywhere "web apps."

I considered a phone app using Phone Gap (Cordova), but it would have ended up being double the work. So instead we have some code that "senses" phone users, and delivers a refined experience. In fact, if you're on an iOS device and go to the site home, then select "save to home screen," a custom ATS icon will appear on your device. Clicking on that will deliver an experience just like a native app.

The only thing i am not a big fan of is the "New" page.

The previous/current "Live" page was problematic for many users. The constant-ping Ajax used to update the in-page content was increasingly incompatible with typical customizations a lot of users make to their browsers. And some anti-virus packages didn't like it at all, and rarely loaded the new content -- hence the often/occasional "The live page isn't updating" complaints/comments.

The new "NEW" page could be potentially improved, but on the other hand, once our testers got used to it, it was preferred over the existing Live page. Perhaps give it some time to adjust to the change, then see what you think.

I have a newer Kindle...the HD version...and I didn't browse the site extensively...so it may be the same for me....but the ads did not encroach on the text

ETA
and it was far nicer than the old ATS to read and view.

I can handle getting used to it but it just will not work properly on my mobile.

I'll need more information than that for input on testing a final release candidate.

On my end, it's been testing on:
iOS 5 - iPhone
iOS 6 - iPhone/tablet
Android 4.2.2 - phone/tablet
Android 4.2 - phone/tablet
Kindle Fire
Windows Phone 8

For me, no surprises.

HOWEVER

Mobile users accessing the site in third party browsers may have some issues.

Dolphin works fine. Chrome works fine. Firefox on Android doesn't honor some core style declarations, but is still workable. And Opera Mini is just a disaster to be avoided by everyone.

The Site seems to be a lot smoother too, even with the Adverts running alongside it on the Home page!

Even with ads showing. The total average "payload" (the aggregate file size of content sent to you from ATS) is slightly less than 50% of the current site.

This is because there are never more than 3 graphics (usually 2) on any given page. All the interface icons are web-fonts, and all the custom imagery is in one CSS Sprite.

That new profile looks really slick very good

I have to say I think its really amazing how much member feed back you are acting on

I hope you keep it, I know you can't please everyone one and i know something's just cant be done for technical reasons but your efforts really are appreciated.

For some reason on the mobile phone, when I type in "53" in the URL and then the site address its asking me for my user name and password. When I put it in, it keeps asking me repeatedly.

It's attempting to authenticate your ability to see the release candidate site -- it's a different password than your ATS username/password. The credentials are in the PM I sent.

Followed this thread throughout the day on an android.
When I got an opportunity to jump in, I found it difficult to navigate and somewhat glitchy

This is a release candidate test. There's no way I can decipher what problem you might be seeing on such non-existent information. Can you provide more details?

In this 5.3... it's just that everything is so big!

During the brief live period yesterday, many users were unaware that they accidentally had ATS on a 1-level zoom-in. Once they zoomed out to 1:1, it looked much better.

The new ATS honors "Viewport" specifics religiously. So a zoom-in on the new site will have much more dramatic effects than the old site.

Thanks for replying.

All I know is that my phone is a nokia N8. I'm not very savvy when it comes to phones and computers.

I'm worried if I get logged out because I wouldn't know how to log back in. There are a few little squares. One for the drop down menu with myATS etc, one square for messages and the other for turning the screen black or white. There is a little box with 'fl' inside which is the search and that is it. Nothing else.....does this mean I need to get a new phone?

Hey SO, props for all the hard work you are doing to improve ATS. A couple of things, I like the user interface on my mac and seems pretty straightforward to navigate. I don't care for it on my mobile though, i'm a info junkie so being able to see multiple threads (without scrolling) on the live page is critical for me. So I guess i'm confused how the new UI leads to more content being discovered. I, like many others spend more time on ATS with cell phones at work and such. I often don't have the time to do all the navigating that is required with the new UI, and for me will lead to missing a lot of threads.

For the preview you just need the new style sheet, it probably didn't update on your browser.

Do a forced refresh and clear some stuff, you should be ok
