Dam. It looks like those aren't gonna work with the new version. Go to the top of your browser window, and in the address for this page, change the 'www.' to '53.' and then re-enter the address as the 'www.abovetopsecret.....'

It will just reload this exact page, but as the newer version of it, or with the newer format or whatever.

After doing that, your entire post changes into 3 of the new crap smilies, a bunch of blank space, and then 2 of the codes are still visible at the bottom of the post.

BUT, there is another way to do it. It's not exactly the same, but it works. You can just save the images onto your computer, and then upload them yourself into your own 'ATS Uploads'.

Only one person actually has to do that though. If I have them uploaded, then anyone can use them, just by quoting my post and copying the file name. For example, with this↓one, all you really need to know is:

bx51a23785.gif
You can then use that↑ with this↓code for it to be in the center.

or this↓simpler code for it to be on the left.

Downside of that being that if I ever delete them from my account, then they would no longer appear within any post, regardless of when it had been posted. (I think so anyways)

As far as I know, when you're using these, you can't line them up

& can't fit them

in

between

words like you can with the others, but they look similar to the (older) 'smilies'. It's really no different than posting any type of animated image (.gif)

They may not be quite as easy to use, since they're not listed right there beside the post, but it can help to make a point...... or for me anyways, it's probably mostly just because I'm goofy and sometimes like being different and/or creative.

I have many strange addictions, one of which is with saving these types of stupid animated images, whenever I randomly stumble across them online. I have hundreds of them saved in a folder, but have only re-uploaded a few of them here. (most of which I have never, and probably will never actually use. lol)

If you wanna use it, you can just quote my post, then copy it and save it somewhere, then just paste it into your post anytime you wanna use it.

It may not be as easy as simply clicking a little smilie thing on the right, but it works.....

In the meantime, I kinda like the minimalist approach of the smilies that are in the new ATS currently. with that said, i am kinda givng up a proof of concept based on that. I have three below that are rough designs for a proof of concept of an emotion set. They are smile, frown, and cry

I started on a question mark one, and the eyes rolling concept, utilizing more of a oO. But why go much further if this isn't somewhat popular as it currently stands.

They look like crap in the "light" option.

In dark, not so bad.

But in light, the orange aren't too bad. its only the low contrast blue on grey that is hard to see.

I like the minimalistic approach. Simple, but understandable.

I think that's the problem most people have, is that they just don't look like their txting counterparts. If we keep them close to their alpha-numeric representations.......

Looks like the prior approach wasn't very popular....

Lets see if the yellow is more familiar and user friendly

and of course, beezer

Its still follows the general format concept of the icons on the site, but with smileys instead.

What if they were all the same color?
And, could you do

I kinda like the round yellow emoticons, but perhaps they could be a light green or light blue and still have the same effect? If you could fit the emoticon inside the circle, the emoticons would be universal, and balanced. Maybe even a transparent circle, with the neon hue behind.

Tossing out ideas.

Can we see a small sampler of a circled emoticon with a transparent background, yet not yellow?

Fantastic advice, so much so, that I have taken the liberty of doing just that. Below are Emoticons that I have uploaded to ATS so they are a free for all and usable once the 5.3 is running. I am going to "quote" then copy/paste all to a word doc for ease of access.
