There are a slew of new features:

New Chat
New Archive Feature
New Uploads System

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few here, but overall every base ATS feature has been upgraded.

As soon as SO works out the kinks, probably over the next few days.

He's taking a much deserved break

so let me understand. The original poster of this thread gets points. Because this is the 3rd longest running thread I've kept tabs on. Next to Batman movie findings and the night of the Explo-Tec bunker explosion in Louisiana

Popcorn .

You don't know what 5/3 is?

How about the 5th largest and the 3rd from the sun?

Yes! The earth-like planet called ATS is being launched into its solar orbit! If you want to stay behind... well that's your choice.

Duh, it was sarcasm. should I have stated it was a rhetorical question??

I don't argue you have a point. But what's a point in a contained arena of people that were onboard for the change anyway? What I am after is a site-wide opinion. One would THINK that information would be of use for administrative decisions- whether you decide to use it or not. Because if that many people were indeed to disagree site wide- then perhaps your answer is right there. I just want to find out site wide what the opinion is, given the two options. That redesign is such a RADICAL departure from what we are used to, it's like a whole other place. And I'm willing to bet that enough of us love the site the way it is over that option presented, that I WILL get 700 flags on that thread- especially when people know that there's nothing in it for me. Just the desire to maintain what we have over what was presented. Could be a better option is presented in the future- and then hey, that's another matter. And I'm really done pressing the issue. Just thought it might be a fun experiment, and would offer admin additional information perhaps they ought to consider.

It would have been a fun and interesting experiment, but its obviously not gonna happen, id have backed you.

The new ATS was pretty cool. Wish it would've lasted longer. A nickel for every time I wished the new guy lasted longer. C'est la vie.

It's unfortunate that a few missed the the well publicized, long-running opportunity to chime in on the new format BUT...SkepticOverlord has indicated that he will graciously open the beta test up to the general membership again for feedback and tweaking, so... short of being made a fourth amigo...I'm not sure what will satisfy some, if that won't.

finally a comment I can agree with...

Yeah, I like it very much, too.
And, normally, I'm not a fan of change....but the 5/3 is quite nice, crisp, professional looking...and I imagine quite nice for ever-larger numbers of mobile device users.

Not sure exactly when...but back it will be

Change.... people resist it. People bitch. People gripe. People throw stuff. Then they moan for a few days until they realize that it ain't so bad after all...

Then in 2-3 years we'll all be right back here doing this same thing all over again.

the problem with your site wide survey boils down to human nature...
the large majority of people fear change...

you can see it in this thread alone... without a finalized layout, and not exploring every aspect of the new design, people complaining about it far more than they are complimenting it.

I for one am willing to give it a couple weeks to see how it feels. If I don't end up liking the new format, I will frequent the site less or not at all. This is the risk SO takes when they impliment big changes, and being his property, I support his decision. Even if it means I stop participating in the long run...

For what it's worth. I've read really amazing thought out threads here. And some that equate to a 2 am drunken phone call. I hope the changes will help benefit the site and the ones who use it the most. Keep them in mind so they stick around. Since i'm a new member long Lurker. I can now test around on how I can manage maneuvering and posting. I'm still having issues with personalizing my account. Like. How do I attach files, pictures, to help contribute? On tools and myats there is no attachment options for me. Like where it says create avatar. Just a box for typing but no search files for attachment. No further instructions. A Help button could be beneficial for the technically challenged such as myself. Lol. Tim

The reason for the change is that NSA computers were having a difficult time downloading with the old/current format.

The new one will be able to track everyone better.

(oh dang, q-tip went too deep again)

Remember all the members that said the same thing? Most of them are the same ones complaining now.

Funny isn't it?

Invalid argument.
Much like the "they laughed at Galileo" argument, you cannot simply say that:
- some people complained about some changes 3 years ago
- therefore
- any arguments that ANYONE has today about these changes are invalid

Whether you like it or not, it is perfectly valid to complain about this specific set of issues on this specific date for these specific reasons.

Well I would think that if the current color scheme is a tried and true, and well accepted success, changing it the least possible might be a consideration.

That's just it. As I've said countless of times in related topics/issues about an ATS redesign, we are dated and tired. Traffic is dipping and new membership is falling because we've not kept pace with the contemporary design aesthetic.
