No, it's not there for anyone. It's there for the command and control mission. It's unusual to see it in a more common mission, but it happens.

They wouldn't send an E-4 for him. They had a Gulfstream IV that performed a similar mission that they would use. The E-4 would only follow the President around if it was performing that mission.

Yeah its not there for any one person. Its there in case our ground command and control is wiped out, and we need command and control in the air. It serves as the National Command Authority's mobile survivable command post, and known as NAOC when activated. The majority of the time there will be a three or four star on there just in case they need to take control. Also, that plane can launch ground based ICBM's from the US without the need of a missileer on the ground launching them. Sort of a failsafe in case some lonely officer with his finger on the trigger decides not to press it.

Normally you will see the E-6 doing this instead of the E4B. That's what is pretty amazing about it being in turkey. Also, Air Force One is known as a VC-25, and the difference between the two 747's is pretty obvious if you saw them up close. The E4B has a hump on the top and lacks the presidential seals the VC-25 has.

Another cool thing is the jet is designed to stay airborne for a week. It takes two KC-135s to fill up the tables of the E-4.

I know this is a bad situation, but I'm really learning a lot here. So this does mean they will be bypassing the UN... Troublesome to say the least.

An operation this big; without the approval of the UN is unprecedented.

Intervention without UN approval is not unprecidented. Because Russia would veto it they already know they wouldn't get approval. It makes the UN useless because it can just be bypassed if it doesnt fit the agenda. It's just a convenient formality. They should simply make it a majority rule thing - since that's what this is about. A bunch of countries think this needs to happen so it shall be done.

I thought the same thing as you until I read this, but then again we are talking about Rumsfeld:

The E-4B also serves as the Secretary of Defense's preferred means of transportation when traveling outside the United States.

The precedent has been set..

We can point at the US all we like, but the british are committed, the french and the canadians. This is why it seems odd to single out the US on this, everyone wants to hit Syria.
After this it belongs to the dead.
At this point i want to know what it is they found, because it got them pissed off quick and it has left them on hold.

Taking your logic to an extreme. If four bullies want to smash a kids face in then it's OK because the four agree that the kid needs his face smashed.

Perhaps it is just that the four need psychological intervention because they are psychopathic. !

It has, but I don't see them sending it for the Secretary of State. For SECDEF yes, because you can stretch it into him having a need for it, being in the chain of command somewhat. SecState isn't in any way shape or form.

I have family in Cyprus at the moment. Does Syria have anything that can launch that far especialy chemical weapons? Because if war breaks out would'nt the RAF base there be a key target?

Syria has the Scud C which has a 550 km range (it's just over 500 from Syria to Cyprus), but it's got a fairly light payload to reach that far. It's capable of carrying chemical weapons, with a fairly light payload. They're supposed to be working on the Scud D, but at least one flight test failed and the missile came down in Turkey. The Scud C is the only missile they have that could reach.

Don't know if it has anything to do with this but one of the two WC-135 Constant Phoenix aircraft was spotted near the UK. The Constant Phoenix program includes sensors capable of detecting radioactive particles in the air, and it is believed possibly chemical weapons signatures as well, but it's not known for certain.

I like how open to interpretation "certain irresponsible groups" really is....
source

"If Damascus comes under attack, Tel Aviv will be targeted too and a full-scale war against Syria will actually issue a license for attacking Israel," the Syrian army source told the Iranian Fars news agency.

"Rest assured that if Syria is attacked, Israel will also be set on fire and such an attack will, in turn, engage Syria's neighbors," he added.

The source also warned the U.S. and other Western states that if Syria grows weak, “certain irresponsible groups” will be formed which will endanger Israel's security.

They always said it was gonna happen, guess that makes it inevitable.
Zombie Netanyahu...

They say something about 3's right?
If the "doomsday" plane is 1
and the "Wmd sniffing plane" is 2
Then is the launch of a "classified payload" for the NRO 3?
Space

Wednesday's mission, flying southward from Vandenberg, will place a classified payload into polar orbit for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office, the agency responsible for operating the country's fleet for spy satellites.

This sounds about right....so what's next, any news?
Because this was expected, and sort of clears the way forward.
Source

America says it will proceed with UK, France to act in Syria without UN approval; slighting Russia, US "does not see an avenue forward" at Security Council; Turkey may join coalition against Assad, while Jordan to abstain.

The RAF has postponed the annual summer exercise for 29 Sqdn on Cyprus, but has instead deployed four Typhoons believed to be from XI Sqdn, with another two to follow. They said that they are for the air to air mission only, and will not take place in any strikes on Syrian targets.

It has been reiterated in the UK House of Commons that the UK will only go ahead with Military action when all UN has brought back the evidence and a UN resolution.

Yep the strike has hit a major snag. UK will no longer participate without full UN backing which of course it wont get. This whole thing is petering out really fast now.

Sorry-WWIII post-poned again folks!
