A couple of things that "open new dimensions" on headphones:

NIN "The downward spiral"
Tool "Aenima", "Lateralus" & "10,000 Days"
Flaming Lips - most albums

The above for the insane amount of things going on in them. I'd most certainly echo King Crimson and Sgt Peppers, if you're after a darker experience, maybe try some GS!YBE or later Earth album - Coltrane, Ornette Coleman and Sun Ra bear some interesting experiences too.

Anything by Pelican

especially the Australasia album.

I would also recommend the bands Russian Circles and Isis.

I don't think any one mentioned this band, but any Tool album is great through headphones. When I was in high school it sit in my bedroom with the lights down low and space out. Then it got real good my freshmen year in college. I'd listen to Ænima to go to sleep because my room mate talked in his sleep(dorm life sucked). Some bands just have to be listened to through head phones. You get to concentrate and focus on the songs and really learn them. You can hear the layers of the recording better. When I can, I'll listen with headphones the first time I get a new album, it makes that first time more personal

I have the self titled album from 2003. It's a good album but it didn't hold my interest at the time. I was distracted by other bands like Killswitch Engage, Unearth, and Avenged Sevenfold(the new album that came out yesterday, I'm a little iffy about it). Thanks for posting the YouTube link. That song is real good. I guess I'll have to revisit Alexisonfire. Even though I'm way more in to metal(check out the band in my profile pic, Within The Ruins. They shred)I still I love Hardcore/Post Hardcore.

The album "RAM" from Paul McCartney is in and of itself the greatest Stereo mixed album I've every let my ears vibrate to.

I urge everyone to listen to it from top to bottom.

I agree, anything from Tool is great through headphones.

A great band to listen to through headphones are the Dead Skeletons:

Thank you. In my early days I would've had no problem doing that right. Now, I'm becoming a time limited fart who doesn't seem to have time to do things the correct way

Thank you again, this album is timeless

V by Spocks beard. Specifically "the Great Nothing"

Kinda blew my mind to see this mentioned. Would have been my first choice to list. ATEOTD and Thoughts Pt. 2. Yummy.

Steve Morse - High Tension Wires
A.C.T. - Any album. Killer production
Deep Purple - Made In Japan,. the three disc set that's mixed right. Best live album ever
Iron Maiden - Second best live album ever
