Where is this? I've been to the south and never saw any of this. Maybe happened 50 years go, though. White people are basically a minority in the south.

Yes, the teens are to blame. Since when did a couple dozen of the worst examples become an accurate personification of an entire race of people? Do you see the disconnect? Someone asked earlier for an Australian perspective on this event. I know we've already had a couple of Aussies comment, but I'll put in my 2 cents' worth as well.

I see it in the same vein as yet another American killing another American. We hear stories about senseless killing in the US every single day, so we kind of expect it. It's tragic that in this case an Australian was the victim, but if it wasn't him it would have been a white American dude.

I get the feeling that a lot of Americans on the various internet fora can't understand why Aussies aren't up in arms over this crime. They can't understand why most of don't blame the blacks for it and see it as a race hate crime like they do, and as part of an insidious black war on whites like they do.

We're a pretty egalitarian country. Sure we are suspicious of new things and strangers, but we like to give them the benefit of the doubt. A"fair go" is one of the foundation cries of Australian culture. As individuals, we tend not to judge people on their race or religious beliefs. We hope for the best from people.

Even with out current "boat people"/illegal immigration problem which has REALLY gotten many Australians upset, we're not hating on them because they are Afghan or Iranian or Sri Lankans or whatever, we're hating on them because they are jumping the queue and that is simply not fair to genuine refugees who have gone through the proper channels.

With the above in mind, very few Australians are going to condemn all African Americans for the actions of these two black thrill killers and their white getaway driver. Most of us are going to condemn the killers for killing one of our own and we are going to condemn the apparent racist motivations behind it.

As much as I hate to say it, America's social problems are yours to deal with. Don't drag us into it. The victim could just as easily have been an American guy on a different day. Americans murder other Americans every day.
