If everyone in the world stopped trembling and just spoke complete truth, from the heart, including hate speech, without an alias... WOW what a world that would be. People would attract people that really are like them and Surveillance equipment/personnel would actually have real threats to target.

The more absurd lower laws would change to reflect the new level the bar of honesty has been raised or lowered as well.

I made a decision some time ago to stop worrying and speak my truth when I have the opportunity. The oppressive friends and family have revealed themselves and fallen away and those that LIFT ME UP have revealed themselves like a huge cosmic favour has been delivered. If this brings sudden death to my door, who cares? I no longer do! There is nothing to fear but fear itself, as it were.

To hell with the eavesdroppers and tax leeches. They can ride each others bologna pony in the people's prison when the day comes. It always does when people become without fear.

Good job presenting the AP article, that is now making it's way around MSM and Alt news. Make note that it's AP, not Yahoo that are the writers of the article's information, for anyone confused. If unfamiliar with AP, Reuters, etc., on how their "articles" are sold to mainstream news outlets, implore you to research that.

Snippet of what you presented that should be paid attention to as well...

While it is al-Qaida-centric in tone, I would advice the reader to understand that all references to that specific group could be removed and any other group substituted... The articles title might clue you in on one potential substitution... People who use online forums. Given that everyone reading these words engages, on some level, with conspiracy / alt-news sites - we would all be prime targets for this sort of scrutiny.

Now we are seeing that more. In one specific case,
MSNBC's Now Parodies Itself With Tortured Claim Boston Bombers

Family Research Council as he could, alleged that Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were motivated to their act of terrorism by conservative thinkers.

With that there won't just be a restriction to undercovers(as presented in OP article) for example at work-not even to mention databasing all that is shared-, if not already which is suspected, to become more present moreso in conspiracy circles which a lot of is message boards on the net.

I have come to the same conclusion. It may sound a bit like "if you don't have anything to hide you don't have to be worried", but the point is how you deal with it.

I have known for years that everything was being tracked and recorded. Even more specific than one would normally assume I can tell you.

I don't care. If you have something to communicate that you want to keep a secret, talk to the person in person, at a random safe place if need be.

Since I'm not planning any international terrorism, or any terrorism for that matter, lol, I don't care, and they can store all my anti establishment sentiments, I just don't care. So what?

Yes, the whole situation is wrong and it is a matter of principle, but does it really matter? We alll know how to keep them in the dark now. It's actually quite logical. Don't talk over the phone and the web if you want to keep secrets. Or buy a prepaid phone that can't be traced back to you and only send text messages if you need to and dispose it.

Whatever they do, people can always get around it. All this shows is their own paranoia and fear, probably because it has a bad conscience, so to speak.

No fear. And no hysteria! *wink*. They want people to be scared and in awe of the government and the reach of its tentacles.

Screw them, noone should feel inhibited by them, one should just never incriminate 1self. if it were an issue.

This is so wrong I don't even know where to begin.

Lets just start with the whole "If you're doing nothing wrong..." line of thinking. Compiling statistics on peoples views and then assigning those views to specific people in a database (opposed to just 47% think this, and 12% think that) is extremely dangerous. It essentially creates an enemies list on demand of anyone in line with a specific viewpoint. What if in the next 5 years it becomes extremely unpopular to be christian, or jewish, or a democrat, or a conservative? There's a list that can be made, and even sorted by how outspoken people of that particular outlook are. It's an easy way to eliminate that group.

Now lets move to the next part. Government is meant to exist at the will of the people, if a government is bad people have the ability and obligation to overthrow it. Our system was set up this way from the beginning and even given protections to facilitate that overthrow in the form of most of our first 10 constitutional amendments. This program prevents that from ever being a possibility (and overthrow already had a small chance of success due to the arms gap). You might say why does this matter, we can change things peacefully. Well, just look at our most recent president. He ran on a very popular campaign of change from Bush era policies, in his first term he failed to change much, but still won a second term (which says a lot about how bad his challenger was). Thanks to Snowden however we've found out that Obama not only went back on everything he promised about change, but he outright expanded the Bush era programs. This act makes our political process meaningless.

Next comes the issue of how these programs are classified. As the Lavabit fiasco has shown us, the charges and details the owner has been hit with, have been made such that he can't even discuss them with his lawyer. The domestic spy programs are so entrenched in secrecy that one accused doesn't have full access to legal counsel and as it has turned out in court so far, one can't even face their accuser and hear the evidence against them. Using these programs for prosecution invalidates our entire system of due process. At this point you're probably just going to fall back to "If you don't do anything wrong, you don't have to worry about not getting a fair trial", so I'll just mention Lavabit again. It was a business that was 100% legal under US laws. It was shut down and the owner was threatened and denied a fair trial at the governments whim. He wasn't doing anything wrong.

Last, all text messages are scanned. That's not safe at all. Voice communications are scanned as well... there's no such thing as a secure conversation over a cell phone. At best you could get anonymous calling with prepaid phones, but even that isn't nearly as anonymous as you would like to believe between voice recognition and metadata.

That will easily be squashed...

A simple FCC change of rules when it comes to broadcasting standards, and you'd have to be licensed to operate a node.

A guy who used to work in the same department setup something similar to get broadband speeds to his remote hunting camp, using antennas that technically are illegal, which is why they were pulled from the schools, he was able to link his home broadband to his remote camp with decent speeds.

One or two of them might go unnoticed, but trying to replace the internet with it? Never gonna happen, you'd be better off funding your own satellite access.

A year ago I lacked internet access at the place I was living and there were no signals nearby. I built some antennas and placed them in appropriate places to borrow internet off of a home two blocks away. It worked out really well.

People like you are precisely the reason why we have come this far to begin with.
People with your mentality do not deserve freedom because they do not care whether or not they have it.

There is no "right" or "wrong" here so there is no need to defend your stance.
It is what it is.

You see no problem with what is going on
Therefore, you will get the amount of freedom you have determined is necessary for you to be happy.
You will suffer greatly and gladly for this.
Nothing wrong with that either.

We all have a line somewhere in the sand.
People with your mentality have theirs set so close to themselves that it isn't likely that anyone is ever going to cross it.

Mine however, is set WAAAAY the "F" out there and was crossed long ago.
Other people have lines that have yet, but are about to, be crossed.

When enough people have their line in the sand crossed, things will rapidly change.

Unfortunately for me, but fortunately for you and people of your ilk, most people have lines that are right under their own feet.

You will get what you demand in life.
Doesn't sound like you've ever demanded much of anything at all really.

ATS is for the mst part filled with intelligent and thoughtful posters. The problem is that most posters are apathetic and find the internet as a release valve for their intelligence. The people who used to have intelligence and understanding lived actual lives of trying to make progress in society, even if through nefarious means (makes me think of Phage's post on Tesla ( no one on this board comes close to that man's intelligence but that's not the point)). I'm tired of seeing the same posters argue and battle the same battles.

ATS is full of cowards and computer heroes. I don't really care if this gets me warned or banned or whatever, because it doesn't matter: It's the truth, and I include myself in it. ATS would in most ways be better if it didn't exist in this form. It does nothing but allow smart and stupid people to post opinions and feel they matter (much like I'm doing). Get off the keyboard Hefficide and go do something in the world. Your posts mean nothing in the real world. Go do something to actually better man-kind, instead of thinking that informing people, who for the most part are already informed, is actually accomplishing anything. It isn't. The saddest part of the whole thing is that the internet has awoken so many minds, yet it has created an echo chamber for intelligent people to believe they are actually doing something in this world to better it. If the government had come out fifty years ago with the scandals of today, there would have been wide scale protests. The government is laughing their asses off (censor it if you want) at all of us. They just told us that they tap and track your every move...and most posters here immediate and only response is to type about it on ATS. Say I'm wrong, but you all know I'm right. I quit this board. I hope you all join me in the real world where we can actually make a difference.

The NDAA was a declaration of war on the constitution .......the aim is to stamp out , not just freedom, but the people who hold it dear.
The fact is that the Nazis lost the war, but they won the ensuing peace.

Is living in constant state of fear of government intruision freedom?

All I said that people should not feel inhibited, I said that I will say what I want regardless of what agency is tracking me. I added that there are always ways around them.

And now it is my fault for saying I don't care anymore?

Kosmicjack how am I supposed to stay nice when people are irate like this?

The only thing I can tell you is that you will live in fear if you choose to live in fear.

I choose not to live in fear. If they want to come and get me for my political views, come and get me, bring it on.

What have you guys done to stop all this that I haven't done in the past decade?

You really don't know who you are judging here.

And you really think that if it ever came to that that it would matter if they had an internet file on you or not?

Most of your post didn't even relate to what I said, and some points rehash exactly the same thing I said before.

If you use texting with a prepaid they can trace it and read it but they can't prove or know it is you. Especially if you dispose of it. I specifically mentioned texting to avoid voice recognition. How are they going to link it to you?

It doesn't even matter.

Alll I wanted to say is that they can never completely control human communication and you only open yourself up to it if you use their means of communication, and even then it can be avoided. All I am saying is that you have the choice.

While I agree with your sentiments about what they're doing with the so-called "foiled terror plots" and how it relates to online forums such as ATS is probably spot on I think the title is bit late.

Governments have been using propaganda before the word was even termed to define it. In WW1 it was stop the Huns, WW2 the Rising Sun menace, etc.etc. This was not the first shot but definitely could be a critical step in the war on free thought and free speech.

Eta: I should have known Mark Potok and the SPLC would come in to this somehow. Talk about digging up turds and selling them as gold nuggets! Boston bombers motivated by Alex Jones? FFS!

In reference to the encryption software, If the government had the source code for the encryption software would it be able to reverse engineer a way to break any code. It is encrypted with a program and I would think if they had the software code that was used then they would know how to decrypt it? Is this how it works or do you need the key no matter what?

The fact that ATS isn't SSL is what bothers me, but I hope that all of the database stuff is encrypted. I also hope that ATS has the balls to say no to the government should they demand everyone's username and passwords.

I get the OP and why this is serious news as it shows they continue to try and monitor all.

One side point that I often think about is are we led to believe all terrorists are hapless halfwits?
Now I'm sure that statement in itself could get a few angry so I'll keep this next bit short.

If you were a Pro terrorist with a grudge would you surely know not to say any plans online?
I could go down the ''If I was a terrorist..'' But I won't.

My point is, it will never work. You can't kill an idea.
