I agree it shouldnt be exposed if it directly puts our lives in danger. But it should be on the individual journalist to realize not to expose such things and do a lot of fact checking before they publish anything. They shouldnt go all willy nilly with whatever they get with a rush to the presses. To me, once they prosecute a journalist for doing this then they will start prosecuting them for doing other such things that they dont like and then so on and so forth until its you.

I've followed Glenn Greenwalds articles regularly in the Guardian since last year and he comes across as an astute and principled person. He really shows what's going on with regards to the United States.

I suspect the reason this King fellow doesn't like it is because he has egg on his face like the rest of the govenment regarding these revelations.

In fact Greenwald has been writing extensively about the U.S. persecution of whistleblowers and journalists, which is somewhat ironic considering Peter King's inane comments.

Are foreigners not entitled to the same level of privacy as Americans? I fail to understand why one if OK in your book and the other is not.

No, they're not; the US government doesn't work for them nor does the constitution apply to them.

Don't act as though every other country around the globe does try its hardest to spy on other countries. Look at what China has been doing to US. Do I need to mention what Putin's goons do?

So its ok then if British Intelligance spys on American citizens I mean its not like they have British rights so its ok then right? Fine if GSHQ spy on you guys then give the data to the NSA ?

Same with China and Russia you cant moan if they spy on you right? Putins goon eh? So I you could say (insert US presidents name here) Goons

So King wants to prosecute journalists? He's a goddamn traitor.

I'm sorry, but any American who aligns themselves with King and the other pieces of filth that have helped those in the dark to pull off these crimes against us is no countryman of mine.

Why Rep. King? Punish him for doing his job? Exposing the possible malfeasance (sp?) of the NSA, and the rest of our oh so wonderful govt.?

Have you thought to ask your constituency what they might think about this? Have you?

Oh, but that would require you to actually listen to the voters of your district, wouldn't it? Yeah, thought so...

I agree totally...that's the slippery slope I was reffering to earlier.

But we can't just allow treasonous behavior simply because someone has media credentials. If all he did was mention the obvious (that US spies on China) then he didn't really do anything wrong.

I didn't say it's OK, I said that's how it works. You act as though the things you've described aren't happening. Countries spy on each other. Our government is prohibited from spying on American citizens without a warrant; that is the difference here.

Same with China and Russia you cant moan if they spy on you right? Putins goon eh? So I you could say (insert US presidents name here) Goons

You're free to say that. I think Obama himself is a goon and he has many goons working for him.

Now THAT is freedom of speech!

Its the same in most westen countrys. You still (at least in theory like the USA) need a warrent in the UK

I have the same freedom. David camroon is Goon and our queen a usless old inbred hag

My point is under your view of the world it would be ok for the NSA to spy on the UK and British GSHQ to spy on the USA and then swap its data

So basicaly you are back to being spied upon only instead of the USA doing it the UK is and the goverments still ends up with the same data.

No, I don’t think that would be appropriate. That is simply circumventing our constitution.

I don’t have a problem with US alphabet agencies spying on other countries….that’s what they’re supposed to do. I only care about the freedom and privacy of Americans....sorry!

…and when has what you described ever happened (the sharing of this info)? It's not really good spying if you tell everyone what you uncovered.

I agree. But to me its unfortunate he is telling the world that we spy on other countrys and how because now that is all people will focus on and the fact that the NSA is collecting data on us will be swept under the rug as usual. I already saw it today on Fox and Friends when they were starting to introduce him as a traitor because of this, nevermind the fact that he spilt the beans on the spy network spying on us. In a couple days all you will here in the networks is how he is a complete traitor and nothing will be done or said of the original leaks.

It is unfortunate but I think that, like Bradley Manning, Snowden has an axe to grind and has a deep seated hatred for this country. Neither of these tools was trying to help us....they were trying to bring down the country they despise.

....and any ethical journalist should know where the line is and not cross it. The overseas operation are what the alphabets are supposed to be doing. That info shouldn't be exposed.

Even in the service, I had a duty to report illegal behaviors and refuse illegal orders..nothing different. Snowden just realized there was NO ONE to trust here. He is a hero by the virtue that he gave up everything...job..money..security. family..everything. Manning, in my eyes, is a traitor. Different circumstances. Please tell me who will be hurt by Snowdens leak other than the fat cats? Don't give me the whole, "he COULD potentially get someone hurt in the future" that is just guessing and I will bet more harm was done by the politicians then lil Snowden.

m afraid you cant have your cake and eat it
If your going to spy on other expect to be spied on back! If you dont like it stop getting involved in other peoples matters unless it dircetly affects national security!

Are you that naive? The USA and UK share crap tons of stuff! Hell you even got a RAF pilot flying yor freaking stealth bombers! This is not 1776. Britain is more or less state number 51 (much to the UK publics displeausre).
Hell your NSA is building a facility over here in parterships with our intelligance agencys! Sure both countries still have some secrets but not as many as you think
