Your opinion aside as it is not truly relevant to the debate. How can you justify your support for a government forcing its populace to censor itself?

While this did occur in Russia, it is universally accepted in the western world that people have freedom of speech. The polices that Russia is now enacting are contradictory to the principles of freedom, and are in fact very reminiscent of polices enacted in Soviet Russia.

I won't get through to you about normal people.....So I won't try.....But yes a couple who can't have children is still normal because the parts fit...

Because freedom of speech and forcing gay information on a child are two completely different things, that's why! You want to speak about it yourself? Go for it.....You want to teach it to my child....No thanks.....Big difference

Lets be clear on something. Don't associate me with governments or political actions. If it was a figure of speech I'm ok with it, otherwise it should be corrected. I represent myself and I voice my personal opinion. That's it.

When i said "your" i did mean "those with opposing views" i can understand were the confusion would come from, i apologise.

You're going to far in your comment by bringing all the "issues" might be in the gay community versus the rest of the world... I personally don't care about gay pride marches, gay rights, marriage etc. There is a legislation for those things and I don't bother wasting my time with things that I've got no power whatsoever to neither change or keep them in place.

I haven't gone to far at all, i am discussing the decision made by Russia's parliament and how it will effect the gay community. Just because you dont personally care about homosexual's and their rights doesn't make it a non issue, because guess what? People do actually care and they're not all gay!

I stick to what I said from the beginning of this thread: I as a parent think that kids shouldn't be exposed to homosexuality and presented to them as the most natural thing.

I dont think children should have to worry about gender and sexuality, yet its okay to teach a child their "gender" roles, but try explaining to them that sometimes people of the same gender fall in love and suddenly the worlds gone to hell. Educating a child (Of around the age of 10-11 and upwards) about different sexual orientations isnt going to "influence" them, as ive said, you're inclined to the same gender or your not, you cant be changed you are who you are.

That doesn't mean I have to hate it or teach my kids to hate it. Absolutely not. I just don't want to be forced on my child as a concept. Let him/her grow to an adult age and understand what it means. Only than if they have it in them, can really see what it is.

With respect, i cant understand what the big problem is? Its not like they're being exposed to explicit content? They're not being forced to partake in the culture or "hug a gay" Only when homosexuality is tolerated can we start living in a society where children can be free to cross the threshold of sexuality without people ramming their preference down their throats.

What a shallow view. Many an adopted child will sigh with utter disbelief at what you've just said.

Why is that? Because only gay families adopt? Where did that child come from? Oh yeah someone straight......How many gays adopt? Oh yeah nowhere near the amount that straight families adopt.....

But the laws enacted have little to do with children as they ban information from the general populace.

Is an LGBT magazine on display an example of forcing information on children? Because by that logic a magazine on Islam, or Christianity is an example of religion being forced upon children.

The fact is that we are all human beings with free will and individual opinions and we are all equally entitled to each. Dismay.

It had been about a law passed by the Parliament of the Russian Federation and backed by the Kremlin. It hadn't been intended to start a war over the whole American gay issue. Err... Talk about unexpected turns and unintended consequences. Perhaps things will improve with a bit more time? Oh well.....

ok, i looked at all the comments here and people are pretty set in their views. you can't no matter how hard you try to change how someone strongly feels about a subject or their own moral values. I can accept the fact the homosexuals are that way from birth, it can't be changed nor should it be, but what really bothers me is having it flaunted in public especially at gay pride parades. They are allowed to be nude or close as one can be to nude and carry on with antics in front of children who line the streets, whose parents bring them to watch?

We are already being bombarded with gay lifestyle in almost every program on TV. With issues and content crossing the line to what is/should be acceptable for children to watch. If they toned it down and covered the topic with decency it might not be so offensive and in our face.

I don't care if you are hetero or homo sexual, keep your antics away from public eyes, especially children's eyes. This is probably the reason this was passed in Russia, not against gays, but against the parades for which it would seem 'anything goes'. BTW public display of over the top kissing and fondling is not tolerated by heterosexuals either. What ever happened to charges for Indecent Exposure? It is uncomfortable to watch doesn't matter who is doing it. Get a room!

No that is not what this conversation is about, you derailed the thread and turned it into a conversation about "teaching" kids the gay lifestyle.

The title of the thread is Russia Parliament Passes Anti-Gay Bill ( 434-0 Vote ) not "Russia stops people from teaching kids about gays".

This is a free speech and censorship issue perpetuated by a government that is only slightly less tyrannical then it was 30 years ago.

That is NOT free speech!! You can talk about it, that is freedom of speech...

To TEACH my child about homosexuality is NOT free speech......You want YOUR child to know about homosexuality, that is YOUR job to teach them, not the school system
