Ok

AWESOME JOB GUYS. There are awesome moderate Muslims in the UK who find extremist acts repugnant. So the thread done then?

Aye, but it's still stated there and that was your point.

Either way, homosexuality isn't the topic of this thread and, as intrepid has stated, we need to move back to the actual topic of the marches.

Do you tell your friend how much you apparently despise his religion on a daily basis and quote your stats at him?

Somehow I doubt that....

See, this is a prime example of your spin, and your amazing ability to ignore it when your bluff is called, trying to turn it around on your target.

"Why don't other religious folks cut up a fuss?"

"They do - here's an example."

"See? It's them EVIL Muslims at fault for getting the smack down! They can even make a preacher cuss!"

I dunno if you're married or not, but if you are, I kinda feel bad for your wife - there's no doubt in my mind that every problem is her fault... in your eyes.

Not saying you're a wife beater, because I sincerely don't think you are, but I've heard the same excuse out of wife beaters - "It's her fault! She made me beat her!"

It's just a matter of finding the right scapegoat, then making it stick to them, isn't it?

My concern is however that this event was from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association.

The Ahmadiyya Muslims are themselves a minority, and in Pakistan (where most of the sect reside) they are considered non-Muslim.

So this gesture doesn't even reflect mainstream Islam?

That is unfortunate.

Still, hats off to the Ahmadiyya Muslims.

You don't know me at all, I find I open my mouth when I shouldn't. Almost got me shot once.....and my crocked nose will also testify to that.
When the topic comes up I speak my mind, and I know it may shock some of you but I do support moderate Muslims, and I would support them "cleaning up their house"

Three quarters of British Muslims surveyed don't see anything wrong with punishing the Danish cartoonists either.

• 78% of British Muslims pooled believe the publishers of the Danish cartoons should be punished.

CBS

That suggests there is a 78% chance that your wife agrees with them. I suppose it all depends where you are standing?

No, I did my own little mini poll. She doesn't agree with them. She thinks that a religion that can't stand cartoon onslaughts really wouldn't have much left to stand on.

Her take on it is that it's a matter of respect, and that respect (like morality) cannot be legislated. A law does not change what is in a man's heart. She thinks that the Muslims should be allowed to protest it, the same as anyone else, but not that they should legislate against it. That would infringe on freedom of speech.

Same goes for that silly assed movie that the White House tried to blame the Bengazhi debacle on. She saw right through that excuse right off the bat - but then, it wasn't those evil Muslims trying to blame it on a movie no one had seen in the first place, was it?

Nope, that would have been some eminently non-Muslim politicians attempting that cover, trying to blame it on a religion they're banking on no one else knowing anything about.

Hey! that's pretty close to what you're doing here, isn't it?

As long as she doesn't want to turn our house into a fundamentalist Islamic state (28% of British Muslims do), watch me get killed for insulting Islam (1 in 8 British Muslims do) or try to get me arrested and prosecuted for insulting Islam (68% of British Muslims do) then she and I will get on just fine.

I actually laughed out loud at that. I did again as I typed this.

Here is a recent picture of me remonstrating with my wife.

Is that you, Mr. Bush?

I only ask because that is the first place I ever heard that particular bit of spin.

A "peaceful religion" is not necessarily a "religion of peace". It's all a matter of where the stress gets place in the sentence, and he dinna get it quite right. Hell, if I were a Muslim, I'd have found that construct to have been more offensive than any cartoon they could draw, because it places limits where limits are not - not something that's within Mr. Bush's authority, then or now.

Cartoons just poke fun - that sentence is a little more insidious.

Sweet Jesus on a slab of toast! Tiny numbers like that, and they've got you running scared? Hell man! Hitch up your britches and take control of that house! You won't even need the belt from your picture - a sufficiently mean glare ought to do it!

HEY! Here's something that might be a fun exercise - what is Britain's Muslim population compared with the rest of the country? Take that percentage of the overall population, then re-multiply the numbers you just gave me so we can see how gawawful dangerous those folks really are to your political way of life.

Better do it on your own, before I have to do it for you - you might not like the spin I put on it, so I'm giving you first shot to spin it up where you want it to be.

Well that's the most positive thing you've said in this post, commendable really for saying that. As far as cleaning house goes, that's not so easily done. You know even here, I live in a small town and everyone practically in this town goes to pray at the mosque on Friday. As soon as the prayer is over, they leave, it is there moment with God and it is done in all seriousness. Do you really think the Imam has time to talk to each individual personally to find out what they are all individually thinking? NO way, so instead they have widespread message to all. Maybe this is where there could be improvement, maybe there should be more meetings available throughout the week to discuss these issues like terrorism and extremism in an open way. Maybe someone should find out what education tools Imams in mosques are using and make some suggestions in a positive way, you don't have to be a Muslim to do so. Just from the mere fact that 1000's of Muslims did show up to condemn this murder means there is support and room for growth.

We had the same problem here right after the American Civil War. There were an awful lot of white folks who didn't want the black folks having any say in the laws where they both lived. You may have heard of it - "Jim Crowe". "KKK", etc.

We got that sorted out, finally. Odd thing about us heathens over here in the colonies - we've got this strange notion that everyone ought to have a say in the laws that govern them. Your mileage may vary from that, though. If that's how you want to run your own country, I'm ok with that. Just letting you know we already tried it, and it didn't work very well here.

Its not an apology. Its a condemnation.

Why should they apologise for something they didn't do?

Do you apologise to people every time a Reaper or Predator takes out a family? I doubt it.

Unfortunately rabid nationalist fervor is alive and well, and some lives are worth more then others.

I'm sorry. I'll behave now and get back into my little quiet corner and just read.

ETA: This is tough! I'm reading so much crazy, outrageous BS that desperately needs a logical and factual response that I'm having to sit on my hands to be quiet!

Example: the assertion that we didn't create the radicals because AQ attacked the twin towers BEFORE we invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, so we couldn't have possibly been the ones to piss off AQ. News flash, this just in - history did not begin with either of those events. I know for fact we were active in Afghanistan in the 80's, and seem to recall hearing about an Iraq invasion some time in the early 90's - Desert Storm, I think they called it. It even goes back much farther than that, with US and British machinations in the Middle East.

Seriously?

I may have to disconnect this keyboard altogether to stay quiet!

Another in a continuing list of nonsensical arguments by people in this thread.

Implying that saying someone should not make laws because they are black(which has no effect on their decision making process) is somehow comparable to saying someone should not make laws because of the religion they follow(which does have effect on their decision making process), is totally nonsensical.

The color of your skin does not affect function of your brain. The religious ideology your brain follows does affect the function of your brain.

unless said white guy is a muslim
after all "ethnic Chechen" is merely a neologism
for caucasian.

Well, according to the OP's article this was an Ahmadiyya organized event.

The persecution of the Ahmadiyya by some mainstream Muslims in Pakistan is a global human rights concern.
State endorsed violence against the Ahmadiyya has also been apparent in Indonesia.
It might not be something most Westerners have heard about, so this is on the plight of the minority faith in Pakistan.

Essentially they are considered apostates who deserve death by mainstream clerics, according to this documentary:

So we had an event for the infidels by the infidels, according to the Islamic mainstream.
