Where gangs come into play is weapons and smuggling. MS-13? BAd guys are bad guys and there are levels. Street players and ustlers and then white collar boys who bail them out. IN between, you have middle men and cartel connections. Terrorist have cash and cash talks. There is a great fear with the porous borders that the sleepers are here already.

Gangs do not cause terror to incite fear. It is business.
Terrorists have a agenda and an ends to their means.

Hope that helps...

I would add a terrorist uses terror to bring about change. If change is made due to the terrorist actions, the terrorist has won.

A terrorist fails when ideals and lifestyle remain willfully uncompromised despite the terrorist's actions.

Personally I have a giant dislike for Gang members. Back in "The Day" Gangs were formed due to the ethnic diversity of a city. Each gang trying to protect themselves from being jumped. Over time these gangs evolved into highly organized criminal organizations. There were things happening in the LA riots no one ever heard about. Things that never made television. For example; Pickup trucks heading out on heavily armed looting missions, gang members holding AK's and AR's in the back of the trucks..

I lived it. I then lived in the mountains just above San Bernardino CA and had to drive through there often. I got jumped at a gas station, I got a gun pulled on me at another for simply seeing a banger steal a pack of cigs... I have a half dozen more gangster stories

Were it me I would paint a target on every single gangster and put them down like the rabid dogs they are. Not going to happen in a Country where a Bomber admits his deed, was caught on multiple cameras and still gets to take millions of dollars out of the taxpayers mouths going to trial........

I think that anyone caught red handed doing violence to a stranger should be shot.

Screw Oakland

That is one place on the planet I actually wish they would declare martial law on. I feel like I'm completely betraying my values but that place is nothing but a oozing fester on the back of humanity.

If they marched soldiers through the worst areas and went house to house taking down all the horrible people that infest that place...I'd probably volunteer for door busting duty.

I lived there, I knew the people that lived there, they are all **** human beings and proud of it. They contribute NOTHING to our country or their community and do EVERYTHING to try and pull them apart. Violence and Chaos is like heaven to these a**holes.

Screw em!

Several streets were closed down in West Oakland during the sweeps

There's a bit of a difference between an entire city and a few streets...

If you think that a few city streets is no big deal and nine people have been detained...I fear for America when they do shut down entire cities.

Woa there, people are products of their environment to a large extent. Now, every one does have free will and has to be responsible for their actions, but growing up in surroundings where gangs are prevalent, gang and drug culture can seem like the only option. Gangs usually try and initiate kids as young as possible and every one makes mistakes when they are young. Life is about learning from your mistakes, and some gang members do, but living and trying to get a job in poor neigbohoods when you most likely now have a criminal record is a really tough thing to do. People do need to be held accountable for their actions though. I believe if you comit violent crimes you should be punished in some way as a deterrent from doing it again but I don't think shooting them is the answer. That would just add more violence to a world with to much of it already. This world needs compassion and understanding of each others flaws. Only then will people be able to break the chain of unfortunate situations leading to unfortunate people.

I'm not going to say that Oakland doesn't have it's bad elements, not unlike any other city. However, I think a couple of you are greatly exaggerating the "conditions" there. I used to live up in the Bay (SF and Berkeley) and still frequent that area many times a year, for business and leisure. When I have business in Oakland, I always stay at the Marriott on Broadway (right in the city center). After meetings (at night), I've routinely walked, alone, unarmed, and without "armour" through Downtown . . . up Telegraph or down to Jack London or west to Market or east to Lake Merritt . . . on my way to restaurants, bars, or BART stations. I have never encountered any problems, whatsoever. Sure, I may get a "bum" asking for "change" or a street kid asking if I have a "cigerette" . . . but, never felt unsafe in any situation.

Again . . . That's not to say that there is not a criminal element to the city, but let's stop giving the impression that it is some sort of daily war zone. Heck . . . last summer my 10 yr old son and I took a road trip up the coast to the Redwoods and stayed a couple days in the Bay. One night, after a day trip to Berkeley across from the City by BART we got off at the 19th St/City Center station and walked into Korea Town for dinner . . . then back to BART and back across to Embarcadaro . . . all on foot. Never had reason to worry . . .

If it were about Drugs wouldn't the headline say it otherwise? for example.

Toronto police seized nearly $2.5M in Project DOMO drug bust

Wiretaps led to largest drug bust "in memory," says FBI

In this article the details on what the bust or sweep was about are none existent.

I have zero sympathy. Suppose they do reform someday (some have) what about the damage they caused before then? How many people will get hurt?

Gang members are enemy combatants in my book. As for Oakland, there is a nice spot or two. It's where all the cops hang out....

Well here is what it was all about . . .

This was the result of a very long and protracted … complicated investigation with the FBI to address gang and gun violence in the Acorn Housing Project,” he told KTVU. “Five people were arrested including one juvenile. We recovered four weapons and quantities of illegal drugs.” Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said 13 of the 16 raids were executed within Oakland. The search warrants led to multiple arrests as well as the recovery of weapons and narcotics, according to Watson. Helicopters circled overhead as portions of Seventh and Eighth streets were shut down for at least 90 minutes on Wednesday night. Officers wore body armor and helmets and were armed with automatic weapons as they were deployed in West Oakland. The operation concluded shortly after 1:00 a.m. with no injuries or use of force reported, Watson said.

Acorn huh? - Source

Seems like quite the militarized overkill for what they came up with . . . A "long and protracted investigation . . . with the FBI" to come up with 5 people and and 4 weapons? Seems like the FBI is just all sorts of on top of things, these days . . . Or are Oakland's LEOs just so incompetent they can't stop "all this violence" caused by 5 individuals, who possess 4 weapons?

They did this yesterday too in East Oakland for a shooting suspect.... They shut all the streets down in the surrounding area because they thought he was in his home and not coming out.. As it turned out his car was there but after they broke n they discovered nobody was there..

As for this I saw it on the morning news before I left for work, it happens a lot in Oakland truthfully.
I live right outside Oakland in Vallejo, Ca so I always here about this stuff, Oakland and Vallejo/Richmond are pretty rough places to live but there is decent parts scattered here and there.

As far as an above poster mentioned that everybody in Oakland deserves to be under martial law and he knows this because he lived there... Well I guess your saying you deserve to be under Martial Law as well because you lived there. Why is it ok to quarantine a city just as long as you are not in that city anymore???

I can tell you I live in a bad bad area and work everyday to support 3 kids that are my girlfriends and 1 that is mine. I don't own a gun and never had drug or violence arrests or anything like that. So if some knuckle head does something stupid in my neighborhood I deserve to be under house arrest as well??
That's a pretty stupid way of thinking if you ask me

Well, sure, it's all okay then.

Let me know how much you enjoy it when your street is on lockdown and they're on your doorsteps with automatic weapons in your face.

Oh wait, we've had this conversation before. You're totally fine with a suspension of rights.

I lived in vallejo for most of my life, on benica rd and a few other places. Its not even close to Oakland as far as what a craphole it is, you know that. Ive been to every part of Vallejo and have walked around by myself allll over that place and never really had a problem or felt nervous or anything. Theres parts of Oakland Ive been to (back in my not so good days) where I was positive I was about to get murdered just for being a white guy in the wroooong part of town.
There was a time when every time I watched the news there was another murder in Oakland. Cops, kids, and gang bangers.

Your right about what you said...but I still wish they would bring the hammer down over there. I very much despise gangbangers, on the whole they are all horrible excuses for human beings and most of them are completely psychotic.

Believe me, if you got to know the majority of em you would have a hard time finding any sign of humanity within them.

All Im saying is there are parts of Oakland that need a good flushing out

Why was I sure I would see you here...?

Again... trying to make events like this look normal and drive people into accepting them as part of their everyday lives... when they are everything but normal and really should make people open their eyes and see all these events are a major violation of their rights and should act accordingly.

You are indeed a busy little bee...

Either way folks, you must understand that this is Oakland Kalifornia.
I would guess that a good 80 percent of homes there have a parolled felon, and in the worse areas that number surely goes up.
This is not a racist rant but an educated guess on my part.
