Shooting at MIT (And continued events in Boston 18-19 April)

Pretty sure this is completely unrelated, but my wife and I just heard the sound of a distant explosion (or perhaps a closer shotgun) nearby us. We are in central Illinois.

Okay. Can I ask a few questions here?

How did this kid get away? I mean, they got his brother. They were right there! Does anyone know how he got away?

Also, isn't it evident the older brother was the brains behind the operation? Are they really shutting down the WHOLE city, every university, every business, etc... for a 19-year old kid who was known to be the kind of kid who brought in his neighbor's groceries, who went to college and was described as nice, etc?

I'm not saying he doesn't deserve severe punishment, but really, aren't we acting like we're in a Bruce Willis movie here chasing after a mouse?

How dangerous is he now without his brother?

And how could every law enforcement officer in New England let this kid get away during the shoot out?

I'm obviously confused.

It does get a little more difficult to apprehend a suspect when you have bullets, IED's and grenades flying your way.

I'd imagine he took advantage of the dark, the confusion, flying bullets and exploding bombs along with knowledge of the area to make his escape.
