Those packs don't look like the ones in the debris photos. What am I missing?

They were blackened in the fireball like the brick sidewalk beneath where they went off?
Just one possibility.

Also, and I don't mean to sound stereotypical here, but suspect number 2 looks middle eastern. Can't see enough of number 1 to say for sure, but he is dark skinned.

Requesting more pictures and videos to be released a hour after they provided images and videos of the suspects, that's actually more than I expected, usually they will say they have a lead and wont reveal details. They are in an investigation and they are not going to compromise anything no matter the case, and they will release as little information as possible until they are caught. Just like in ANY investigation, this one is no different and I see no need for them to release videos of them setting down the bags at this time because it is not really relevant on what they want everyone to do. However, the videos and pictures will be released you got my word.

They need your help in identifying these guys, they don't need you fact checking what they already spent thousand of man/woman hours on and if it wasn't for them not being able to positively identify the suspect, they probably wouldn't have released any images at all yet. Ever hear the saying 'Don't show all your cards'.

There was a "raid" of such yesterday at in the morning at MIT, someone on reddit showed pictures of special police at the school and I guess they were going through all the chemical storages and doing something I forgot. Not sure if it is related but maybe.

Just for added clarification: The 2 darker skinned men who were fingered by the FBI yesterday and plastered all over the NY Post as suspects were IDed as runners and were there all day involved with the marathon.

On topic: I find it highly amusing (not sure if that's the right word.. Disturbing?) that with all the money given to the FBI to investigate criminals and criminal acts, plus all of the technology they have at their disposal - face recognition, satellite tech, access to security cameras - they are asking us, the public, to help catch/ID these guys. You'd think they'd be on top of it, literally. And be able to follow these guys in and out of the scene easily.

You do know that America is built on migration, right? Boston itself is famous for its international, multi faith and racially diverse culture.

Yes, I am well aware of American History, thankya much. I am not asking you to agree with me here, just giving my opinion.

He looks Middle Eastern TO ME. At least I was objective enough to say that I can't form a firm opinion on suspect 1, even though he is obviously dark skinned.

If the FBI were like TV show FBI agents, then we'd already be into the follow-on episode where the conspiracy starts to unravel, connecting all the way up to somewhere. This isn't TV though. 9/11 was sewn up quick because it was staged. This will probably be a lot messier.

I don't think the FBI came to the decision lightly, to ask for the public's help. Their server went down a little earlier from the crush of citizens going there to look at the photos and video images. Now they are swamped with tips, all of which must be followed up on, and that takes tons of man- (and woman- power.

But if these suspects have never been had their DNA taken or photo ID's or are otherwise 'not in the system'--there is nothing to match them with. So the FBI must appeal to the public. These murderers had to buy their groceries somewhere, and hopefully somebody will recognize them.

No misdirection, in my opinion.
