I was listening to this a little earlier! Though I was listening to a performance by the Hallé Orchestra...they are based in Manchester which is
in the North West of England where I live. I think the first ever performance of this piece was given by the Hallé Orchestra? Regardless I really do
love this. I suppose I just have a special affinity with the Hallé as I have listened to them play at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester where they are
resident. I had never listened to classical music being performed in a real music hall before and I suppose that first visit is what really got me
hooked!
I've found the recording on Youtube, although the sound isn't the best but I believe it was recorded in 1956/57. But I just looked it up and the
original performance was indeed by the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester in 1908.
