This is how I see the situation:

A wasp flew in my house and landed in my coffee cup. I picked up the coffee cup, and emptied it outside, so the wasp would not drown. I put him back where he belonged. (true story - happened 3 days ago)

But an animal lover would rescue an animal and keep him captive. They would have taken the wasp and put him in a bottle, and then they would hate anyone who would dare blasphemy their wasp. They love animals sooooooooooooo much.

I know you have been raised to have pets, and you mean no harm by it, but I detest it.

Sorry if that offends you all.

I'm not offended...lol...I just wrote the other day about how I re-located a spider in my bedroom back outside where I think he / she belonged....I really understand your points more then you might think...there are no "perfect" answers to this, and perhaps us Humans created this mess...all I can do is be kind to people and animals in the best way I know how...and I do believe our connection with animals is "spirtual"......

OK, here is my theory...Dogs and Cats that always have food available, including "people" food.....are not as likely to overeat.....me and my Sis have argued about this...but her dogs go nuts when it's time to eat.....my dogs...like to eat...but it is not the highlight of thier day...and they are exercised regularly...her Dogs are much more "motivated" by food...maybe I just got lucky?

Excellent theory.

I agree. They then see food as a 'reward'.

Are you drinking again? Just joking. I liked your earlier thread and couldn't resist.

Walking is fine but get him running some too if you can. He also may need a playful companion. My mother brings her dog by once in awhile and my dog loves it. They play and run like mad.

I wasn't but now i am.
(i'm being careful though.)

If you're Native American than your connection with animals might be viewed as spiritual bonds, so I can't even address that. I don't know enough about that culture really.

As far as it being moral or not, I think loving them as pet owners do is not. I think people should not keep them for just some pet or because you love cats or dogs.

If the OP is worried about his watch dog then that's one thing, but when people say go spend $200-1k at the vet, it has feelings too! Then no, just get a new watch dog.

You dont have to be native american to haev a spiritual bond with nature and animals and the unseen world.
Plus to throw a dog away because he is ill is unbelievably cruel.
I feel without being offensive that you are unable to understand where we are coming from and that might not be your fault - have you been diagnosed with any conditions from the autistic spectrum ? I do not mean to be offensive - just asking.

this is my dog pauline...
...she usually weighs 10 lbs. she has an arthritic elbow so the vet said not to let her weigh any more than that so I take her to my sisters house so she can get her exercise with my sister's dog. If she skips her play dates she gains weight very easily...just like humans...there is no shortcut its diet and exercise...good luck and consider getting your dog a playmate.

Feed him only what he needs (even slightly less) and take him out for more walks - take him swimming, good exercise for a dog. And if he is still not shifting the weight then take him to the vet as there may be an underlying problem.

If you think he is depressed take him on a mission somewhere. My dogs love that..! Does your dog have any doggy friends.. If he does then take them all out one day for the whole day (or even camping..!) let them run about like mad things. He will enjoy the human and canine company..!

Good luck dude

My daughter puts her dog who is her daughter which means my granddaughter on a tread mill with herself if she thinks Sukie (my grand weans name) is getting overweight and she loves running on it lol she sometimes stands on it to wait on someone starting it so she can have some fun

Well any hoo i agree with you walk the doggy and feed it right and no tit bits of human food and the weight will start coming of but your going to have to get doggy to stop sitting on its ass when you go out walkies lol

"Friends come in all shapes and sizes... "

And at the end of a leash, no less.

It's not that I don't care about animals; it's that you all care too much. You enslave them as emotional toys and then scoff at me, because I see them as animals, and not some thing to cherish as only other humans should be cherished.

Bleeep humans and animals are the same. Did you know humans are animals [ shock / horror]
Humans are mammals and all mammals are animals...

So in actual fact you are just a big ape - does that shock you?

There are 5 great apes on the planet - you and all the other humans are the fifth great ape.

You are as special or as no special as all the other animals - your family.

BTW you did not answer my question - is that true ?

No I'm not autistic. I am just apathetic, because I am so sympathetic. I drop the emotion to understand, because I care enough to understand.

And I do not believe we're apart of the animal evolution as you do. I think we were made separate from their evolution, at some point, and we were given domain over them.

Do you see pets as a cat sees a mouse it might play with?

How would you define a pet (while keeping in mind that they are held captive?)

Bleeep honey it does not matter what you think. You are still an ape.

For example you might 'think; you have blonde hair but the rest of us see it is brown and the fact is it is brown. So metaphorically - although you think you have blonde hair you actually have brown hair.

You are an animal - but it appears you could have inadvertantly cut yourself off from the feeling part of your being - try to reconnnect .. if you can, you will see / feel a different world from the one you currently appear to inhabit,

Peace fellow ape.

I've heard this enslavement word a bit to much for my liking, my dog Jaxon is my best friend and he is not by any means a slave he's loved, feed, watered, walked, and if anything he's a user because if what your saying is right i think he's enslaved me

Maybe before you start judging you should read more on books about man's best friend, my daughters dog cry's after her when she's gone to her sisters for a few days only for an hour or two though because she loves her granny, now does that sound like an enslaved dog?

We love are dogs they are part of are families and we mourn for them when they die after 15/18 years, we don't go oh hoot i think i'll get another dog cos i need a slave to wash and clean the house opps dogs can't do that can they?

People save dogs from kennels or should they just be put down even if they are healthy?

PETA even murdered over 1000 pups and kittens last year because they didn't want them to be slaves to us humans! I think someone should have went into there buildings and took the wee mites away so they could go to a good homes as a family pet (another wean as that's how they are looked) and be well looked after, not enslaved! Sorry i cannot embed the youtube video about the pups and kittens i don't no how yet but if you go into youtube its easy to find.

Enslavement is wrong of any wild animal but i'm afraid house pets are in another bracket, maybe you should focus more on the enslavement of adults and children in some countries, now they really do need the help and would welcome someone like you speaking up for them?

Right i think i'v ranted on enough about pets and i don't mean to sound nasty i just hate people using that word enslavement it just reminds me of certain do gooders I've watched on youtube as they use that same term about pets. (evil folk some of them are)

You're in denial and have been deceived, honey.

And you dodged my question.

What are those pets you so cherish?

I'll give you the answer: You're in love with the animals you hold captive. It's like anyone who loves their material belongings. You are just in denial of that fact. Maybe if you were a little more "autistic" you could understand what you're doing.

So my Jaxon is held captived flip i'm so glad you weren't around when my kids where all at home or they would be running out the door as wee weans saying your enslaving us if Jaxon's free so are we because you won't let us go out to play so that's enslavement and being held captive tut, do you not see how silly that sounds?
