No not really. We agree to disagree with them as it serves our purpose.

Why do we keep pressure on Iran when we know that without it the regime over there would have collapsed long ago?

Because we are not interested in complete hegemony. That would make us the only piece on the board. Everyone would be forced into conflict with us. The way the world stands there is playing room with the other players.

Regardless of the air of omnipotence that we like to project, the US can't be the best forever. We can be REALLY good indefinitely. That requires others to rise and fall, focussing their competition among themselves.

We moved away from proxy wars for direct benefit to direct conflict for negotiated and then traded benefit.

We conquered Iraq FOR China. They exploit the oil and respect the system which provided for their needs without a need for direct conflict with us. If we would exploit the oil in the long run we would have to defend it as well rather intensely. We gave them our spoils and they do for us other things.

I don't know why Iran is still being kept around but I imagine that Russia would be gifted its spoils like NK would be gifted to China.

Everyone grows and yet no one has to infringe on our presence.

Afghanistan will eventually be shared with Russisa

And so on and so forth. Peace through our bartered conquest. We in the mean time face lesser threatening enemies while remaining the best combat ready force to make it all possible.

I imagine that once everything is well secured that we will be able to scale down our military while the rest beef up in a security and maintaining structure of power role.

I don't know what sort of guarantee we would get but we would get to live like Europe. Strong empire without the need for paying in blood for it.

This is all my take on the trajectory of power in todays age.

They do want peace. Just through conquest. We sell our spoils we would waste trying to keep them anyways while building buffer zones that others have to keep secure eventually.

K. I'm probably wearing my tin foil hat too tight around the head but this latest occurrence with NK has me a bit spooked. We're sending too many resources that way not to have it be nothing.

What also goes through my head is what is it that "they" (whoever "they" are) are using NK to distract us from?

I think they're trying to distract us from either the war in Syria, or a greater conflict with CHINA..

Last few weeks i felt as if this 'issue' is just one big joke and i still feel this way (kinda) but now i am worried as well. Reading about it online it seems like a game but things are worsening by the minute. Nobody is thinking this through, the big shots are playing 'my nuke is bigger than yours' ordinary people are definitely in war mode and I, having been through a war just 20 years ago, am not ready for another one. Don't care who started it but i am not playing.

Can anybody stop this madness ?

Well, there's Pakistan, who have nukes BTW, the country hasn't settled down yet.

KJU has got attention, no doubt. IMHO, if he wanted to really ruffle some feathers, he would have threatened Israel. Lindsey Graham and John McCain would personally lead the attack on NK.

Well I am not taking my eyes off some domestic issues going on right now.

The major difference between the US and Russia is that the US subjugated South Korea and gave them a better economy. Russia subjugated North Korea and made them poor communists.

Wealthy and Educated > Poor and Rigidly Loyal.

Yes, the US is guilty of doing what Russia did. They're both spreading their own ideals across the world. This whole NK and SK thing is a proxy war. But you have to select the lesser evil.

The US is hte lesser evil because South Korea is in better shape than North Korea.

Britain was widely known for spreading itself across the world 100+ years ago. Many countries are guilty. Spain did some imperialism in the americas, for example. Killed off many natives.

The Korean Peninsula is a valuable geographic location. Many countries were vying for it. Japan was one of hte closest and the most successful. They beat off the chinese and the russians to overwhelm Korea and subjugate it. Only when we defeated them in WW2 did the US and Russia conquer it.

It's sad that wars and proxy wars are so common, but it's human nature. Honestly, even the most faithful and patriotic US christians will tell you that all people are sinners.

Just a thought....

NK and SK are at odds, China and Russia help NK and USA, Canada and who knows else help SK, things are already bad in the middle east...

I am very concerned that with all this tension, easy excuses can be made for countries to initiate bold moves ..

Typical response from people who have no idea what the F they are talking about. There are no sides in a full blown war, no good and bad guys. Everything equally sucks, everybody does bad and the common man begins to wonder- was this really necessary - while the scum of the earth gathers more monies in Switzerland selling two identical bombs to both sides and then laughing at the 'stupid' from the comfort of their summer home in Jamaica.

Read here:
en.wikipedia.org - Russian Empire...

And here:
en.wikipedia.org - Russo-Japanese War...

You'd be correct saying the USSR invaded North Korea in WW2.

See here:
en.wikipedia.org - Division of Korea...

More specifically, here:
en.wikipedia.org - Yalta Conference...

The US and USSR agreed to let USSR invade to the 38th parallel. However, the US suspect the Korea would turn communist, so they decided on occupying South Korea immediately after.

I think it's good to start out apologetically..it's also a gentler way of beginning and sharing news topics..Nonetheless, I'll certainly try to be more creative with the introduction on any following occasion..And thanks for the suggestion..

I would like to put it this way concerning range of missiles:
Is it harder to launch a satellite into orbit or ICBM with range of 6000 miles?

Launching a satellite into orbit isn't a trivial thing with all the obstacles following, like coping with escape vellocity etc.
Having said that, if launching a rocket into space is harder than launching a missile with range of 6000 miles, than yeah, they very well might have developed long range missiles.

To proceed with the update of the NK conflict, here's another article from today Thursday April 4th, out of UK Press; "The United States has deployed a battalion to fight chemical and biological attacks on the Korean peninsula in a new show of strength following North Korea's nuclear threats."
