Federal law makes it illegal for him to own a gun...Maryland has no law to reinstate those rights....he is a criminal and got what he deserved.

They said that about Randy Weaver too.

Keep trusting them.

Oh, I see...it is all a conspiracy now.

This is pretty cut and dry...he is an ex-felon...so he can't own guns and he did.

He can probably face up to 10 years in jail for it too...which serves him right.

Is he?
It doesn't have to be a conspiracy, it could be a case of mistaken identity, a case of poor record keeping by the government or something else. I would think it would be for a COURT to decide. Your kind don't like to wait for a trial when guns are involved though, eh?

Officers were acting on a tip that Porter owned guns even though he was not allowed to do so. Police couldn't say Thursday night what had led to the man being banned from owning guns.

This is from an actual television station. WJLA
So, apparently you know all the facts in the case, when even the cops aren't sure. Who needs a trial, right??

It wasn't "150 federal agents".

It was 150 total, including federal agents...but also including Maryland State Police, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies, and SWAT.

This should just prove to everyone that the local cops WILL cooperate with the feds on any gun control laws...no matter what a few local wackos say.

The Maryland State Police and local police were kept out of the loop in making the decisions. If you had read my posts.

The local police stated it was NOT necessary to organize a massive Federal led task force to arrest Terry Porter. Mr. Porter was not deemed a real threat....and apparently the local police were suspicious that the anonymous tipsters was lying about Terry Porter having an arsenal of machine guns and over ten thousand rounds of ammunition.

The Federales over ruled the local police.. Federal Agents ran the raid. When one is being led by a Federal Agency, one is a Federal Agent....albeit only temporarily deputized..

True. Some of the raiding party were the bulldozer drivers sent searching for a buried refrigerator supposedly containing machine guns....as erroneously reported by said anonymous tipster who had it in for Terry Porter, and used the Federales to bust the guy for no apparent reason other than spite.

Go back and reread the accounts and many links to the story I have provided.

Far as Mr. Porter being a felon...he was busted for distribution of marijuana.

Many states have legalized marijuana use.

Was it really necessary to send 150 Federales in an eight hour 'barricade' when Mr. Porter wasn't even home?

Was it really necessary to use helicopters and bulldozers and armored vehicles?

Are we getting dangerously close to the Federales creating another Waco indicident?

what's the reference to the Tucson PD? I don't get it.

also- it is not illegal to own guns if you have a felony. it is FEDERALLY illegal, yes, but not by state law, so.....

some states automatically restore all rights including firearm ownership 5 or 6 years after a felony sentence is completed.

The reference to the Tucson Police is an 'insiders' joke about a gun grabbing story that apparently you are not aware has been going on.

After receiving the tip, federal officers began a further investigation on Porter, and discovered that he held a felony drug conviction on his record from 1992, which led 150 armed officials to break into Porter’s home. During the invasion, Maryland State Police, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies, two special response units, FBI agents, and other officials raided Porter’s home and confiscated four shotguns and three rifles.

Sorry, but regardless of my opinion on this matter, the man was breaking the law. I am sure he was aware of that fact.

perhaps you could LINK your source as others have, that actually prove you're wrong ?

ps ... plenty of prior felons own guns legally.

Maryland does not provide for ANY restoration of firearm rights in their State, once convicted.

if you think he CAN (in Maryland) via a Governor's pardon, prove it.
i've already proven otherwise.

who has a problem with enforcing laws ?
i never said any such thing in this case.
i complained about EXCESSIVE use of resources but don't let the facts get in your way.

ummm, no they weren't but you are welcome to enjoy your delusion.
Federal officers aren't authorized to enforce federal laws without State cooperation.

hahahaha, you're funny ... so, in your mind this guy was an "importer" eh ???
ok, prove it.

btw, nice of you to shirk your responsibility onto the shoulders of everyone else.
is that a personal habit ?

There are no FEDERAL exceptions...zero...zip...zilch
then why bother with clemency, pardons or commutations ??

according to a prior MD governor, Obama is shirking his responsibility regarding this very topic ... articles.baltimoresun.com...

you have still provided no justification for 150 officers of various depts to 'enforce' said laws.
which btw, was the original complaint.
that you continue to avoid it is indeed, hilarious.

One of my friends came back from Vietnam damaged. He could not sleep unless he was holding is gun. He realized he had an issue, so he disabled his 45 caliber pistol so he could not hurt anyone. Even if he woke up and inserted the clip, it would not fire. He had flashbacks and would sometime wake up thinking he was in the jungle.

It took him years to get over this. His wife wouldn't marry him until he could sleep without his gun.

War does change the way you think.

The very people on this thread who said that Mr. Porter is a felon are the very people who on other threads say they have a right to smoke and distribute marijuana.

The term 'felon' is being bandied about to support specious arguments.

I am so tired of these scum who claim to protect us. One day they shall have to pay for their crimes against humanity. You cannot rule by tyranny without tyranny eventually biting you in the ass. They will push the wrong person to far, and he will push back like the hand of God. The day is coming.

If xedocodex has anything to do with it, you will do hard time for possessing that weapon of mass destruction.

And let's face it, it is possible that some members here work for the Feds.

Why do you have a problem with enforcing the law???

This man is a felon...he legally can not own those guns. Don't you guys always talk about enforcing the gun laws that we already have???? Then why do all of you bitch about it when it happens.

And yep...you caught me...I work for the feds
Why don't they get some balls and go into the hood and confiscate guns from real criminals? Oh that might be politically incorrect? Going after what otherwise is a law abiding citizen is an easy target. We get it. Just know, no one, not even the low level shill, will be treated any differently in the end.

While you have a decent point that some Rambo-minded people exist, there are still hundreds of thousands to even millions of preppers who are peaceful unless threatened (just like every other human being).

Yes...but wouldn't "preppers" appreciate the concept of preparing for the worst case scenario???

Like I said...I would rather have 150 or even more officers go into a home for something like this and have no incident than sending a handful and having any of them die because the "prepper" thinks he can take them.

It depends on what scenario the prepper is preparing for? Are they preparing for a civil war? Are they preparing for a hurricane? Do they have a bomb shelter? Do they have a tornado safe room? "Worst Case Scenario" is subjective.

What you have written is absurd. Only so many people can enter a house at one moment in time. In a scenario similar to what was presented in the OP, the only difference between 20 and 150 men would be the size of the audience...

It is not financially smart to be raiding every ANONYMOUS TIP the way the raid was carried out in the OP. If more investigating actually occured before the original raid was carried out... I might be able to agree with you.

I suppose there are degrees of felony. One felon could be a murderer. Another felon could have distributed marijuana.

Mr. Porter spent six months in county for distributing marijuana...twenty years ago.

I've lost count, but I believe there are like fifteen states thus far where recreational marijuana is legal.

150 Federales with helicopters, armored vehicles, bulldozers.....all for a couple of shotguns and a .22 rifle.....just seems a bit much.

There are degrees of misdemeanor and depending on the sentencing guidelines for certain misdemeanors (if you are jailed for 2 years, let's say) you can be denied to right to own firearms for committing a misdemeanor.
A non-violent misdemeanor.

She concluded by saying the raid was a “big waste of taxpayer money.”

I could not agree more with her statement. The whole government law enforcement is completely out of their mind right now and we are paying for them to bust people who do nothing wrong? Considering that the DEA spends 7 billion dollars a month on searching and destroying MARIJUANA operations, shouldn't the people have a say in what our money pays for? The amount of money being spent by the FBI and other agencies is ridiculous to say the least.
