I would say there is no sense involved . . . as, I could get off 38 rounds just as quickly with a Springfield 9mm pistol and 2 magazines, as it takes to get off 30 rounds with an AR-15 with one magazine. The pistol is also more reliable, larger caliber, and with defense rounds would do more damage per round. Or better yet, I could use a Ruger mini-14 which is the same thing (minus cosmetics) and even isn't on the table to be banned . . . So why the hang up on the one that looks scarier?

So, I don't know what you consider "common" where sense is concerned, but there is very little in this campaign of fear and emotional pleas currently running rampant in this country.
