Well I had a quiet night to myself it's cloudles and the moons is out.
I have done some more mods on the iphone mount I made and it sits firmly in place now so i get to spend more time on videoing instead of trying to line the phone up everytime I change a lens.
I think this is me best effort yet with some nice close ups that are in focus and even a few strang anomaly's
Please enjoy the show
And remember no computers were used in the videoing editing or uploading everything from start to finnish was done with a iPone

Awesome! So basically you made the telescope act as a 100x(or so) optical zoom to your iphone5.

Now if only they could make the phones come with this built-in.

Maybe tomorrow?

Thanks for sharing, and that looks amazing. I am thinking about getting a telescope myself and did not know you could use a phone camera to do this type of filming, always thought you needed some expensive type of CCD camera. How long have you been doing this, what do you need to make your own films like you did?

With all those holes on the moon there should be a video out there of the actually hit happening, would be amazing if you could capture such an event. Would also like to ask where you filmed this, living in a city i have got a lot of light pollution and wonder if i can see anything at all (oc. the moon is always beautifully visible

ps. strange crater at 1:55, almost looks like there is something in the middle casting a shadow. Keep it up

Who would have thought?...

I'v been fine tuning it for about 8 months
The telescope is a 8 inch skywatcher $600 and the mount coust me $200
I made a cradle out of a iphone car holder and a bushbike handle bar light mount.
I use 3 apps-
A cammera app witch lets me manualy set apiture and focus
A slow mo app and stabalizing these help stop the shaking you get with the zoomed in shots just breathing on my wooden balcony will cause voilent shaking when zooming.
You dont need to be in the middle of nowhere to do the moon city is fine you just want a nice stable ground to setup on.
I'm realy looking faword to my next camping trip now the I got the camera mount sorted out i should be able to zoom in closer with clearer qualty once Im off the balcony
If you look though some of my other youtube videos you will see how as Ive gotten the cammera more stable the quality has gotten better

why does the video look like we're looking threw miles of radiation

As for the strange things
Right at the start you can see what looks almost like to cranes sitting on the right at the horizon.
Often you can get confused by the walls of craters reflecting light in the darkness but thoughs things arn't craters they must be very tall as they already tower over the mountian range and craters around them.
I'm not saying there is defenetly some there but with some of the crap people post about rocks on mars I thought might be worth noting

There are lumps in every second crater I look at on the moon i couldnt believe it at first I amtold they are whats left of the astroid after the impact.
I can see with some that is the case but as for others I'm not so sure like you said some seem to tower over the crater walls and there all so neatly place right in the center wierd hu

It was not an ideal night because the temp was 28% so you are seeing the heat bit like looking down a road on a hot day were it looks hazy. idealy you want a nice cool to cold night

Interesting.

Here is good screenshot of the crater (slightly brightened):

And here's a larger pic of the crater:

And this shows how centered the "tower" is (same color lines are same length):

I amtold they are whats left of the astroid after the impact.

You were told wrong.
Formation of a central peak.

Sort of like what happens in water. But more permanent.

Thanks phage you almost always have the most logocial conclusions for wired stuff
What to you see when looking at the fist bit of the vid with the 2 right angle looking things on right of screen ?
I Have have been tricked by light reflectio. on edge of moon sometimes but when adjust lighting on these it just looks wierder

Aparently its a whats left after the dust and debry settle.
I know i doesn't make a hole lot of cense to me.
I imagine that is only if a comet hit head on not to mention if there is no gravity on the moon then the debery and dust dhould float into space but you can count on phage being able to find and give you the correct textbook sientific reason doesn't means he always right though lol
Science said the earth was flat and was the centre of the universe once and you were crazy to say otherwise.
Also that is a very high structure in the midle of that crator. But like I said thoughs are all over the moon so I am desensitised to it the very begining of the video is what I find a little strange
