Ive never liked green veggies but i just got hooked on juicing. Someone mentioned earlier that the fruits hide the taste of the green veggies and i find that true.

Me and the wife got a juicer last week and ive been drinking at least 1-2 juices a day. Ill put kale, cucumber, celery, oranges, strawberry, kiwi, apples etc in it .

Really cant get much healthier than this. I recommend it. Ive found that even in the past when i ate better and got fit before I still was tired more than I am now. This juice is really helping my energy levels. Ive lost and gained weight a 100 times over the years and im big into strength training and running so i know my body. The juice is def helping with the energy levels!!!!!!

So this is a good way for people who dont like veggies to get them.

I drink the juice along with my lean meats for most my nutrition.

I know some people are totally against meat. But imo you cant go wrong with nuts, fruits, veggies, and lean meats. Unmodified If it grows, swims, flys or walks its ok.

About 8 years ago I started shopping at a local health food store. Over a years time I would see this guy in his mid 40's, two or three times a month. I got to chatting with him because he had been juicing and was so convinced on it's health benefits he couldn't help but tell people. Anyway, he did a juice fast, then started having fresh organic juices for breakfast and lunch and eating a healthy (early dinner). He lost like 40 something pounds, he had a belly but was not overly large to start with, but the crazy thing was his hair was grey and it went back to its natural color (NO JOKE!) He couldn't believe it himself. I am a total believer in juicing and have been juicing since then.

If you want a green juice without the fructose in it on occasion, put your normal veggies in it (kale, carrots, celery ect...) then cut a lime in half and throw half or all of it in the juicer (rind and all) it knocks out the bitter taste from the greens, and gives you a juice with less sugar. Carrots have sugar in them too but they will increase your energy throughout the day, not just a two or three hour effect like coffee.

I am also not a fan of the BMI, though I understand the point. I pay attention more to my body fat percentage and how I feel.How you feel is a huge indicators of your general health.

Simple answer for me - my MD specifically tells me NOT to lose weight.

Why?

I have CF.

I'm closer to, say, Zach Galifianakis than I am to John Candy, but holy # if a person is even a little bit overweight you get the third degree.

"Hey, look at that FAT GUY parked in a handicapped parking space, what does he have, carpal tunnel from stuffing his face? THAT IS SUCH BULL# (whisper whisper whisper)"

Have a look at some people with really advanced CF (my future) and you tell me which "looks" healthier.

People need to stop getting so hung up on what they SEE, making snap judgments about everyone else who isn't exactly like the finger-swallowing waifs paraded around on TV. THOSE people are the unhealthy ones and need to have a sandwich.

I could insert the obligatory Chris Rock bit about this topic here, but you've probably seen it already.

BTW, there's nothing worse than someone who USED TO BE a certain way railing on and on about how evil everyone else is for not making the same choice(s) to change. Ex-smokers and ex-alcoholics are the absolute WORST at this, it's as if they still miss the lifestyle but feel the incessant need to bash those who still enjoy it so they don't feel uncomfortable about denying themselves.

Have you tried coconut oil? It's supposed to help treat cystic fibrosis (CF).

I don't have any links at the moment, but a search will yield some results, also vitamin D deficiency is a problem so supplementing is quite necessary unless you get plenty of sun minus the sunscreen.

Thanks for the advice about the oil, I've never heard about it until now & my wife is pretty good at trawling the CF boards for things that might help.


As far as the vitamin D goes, I've been on horse-killing megadoses of that for many years now. During one of my many hospital stays, my GI took the brilliant initiative to do a genetic test and ever since then all of the problems I've been having since childhood make perfect sense.

It would have helped if they found out about it when I was younger, it would explain why I was always consistently last in doing the mile run in P.E., mayhap it had something to do with me having a really hard time breathing despite the accusations that I was "faking it" to get out of doing it...

Because I am a signed and touring Musician as well as have another...JOB which involves working with some of the very best members of the U.S. Military...I am in redicoulously good shape. I was shot years ago and had to stay in bed for some time which DROVE ME OUT OF MY MIND...as I am VERY active.

I started putting on weight and since I am aware of dietary needs I just stopped eating ANYTHING that was made of or had in it Machine Milled Processed Flour as well as stopped eating Potatoes, Pasta, and no sweets.

The Human Body cannot process Machine Milled Flour as it is milled so tiny in particulates that once in ones blood stream it TURNS IMMEDIATLY TO CHOLESTEROL. It also...along with potato, pasta, sugar...causes one to gain weight quickly if one is not exersizing.

If I am doing my regular workout I can EAT ANYTHING....ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING IN ANY QUANTITY. But if I am in bed or not active I have to eat a High Protein, Low Carb diet.

A person is better off eating BUTTER than eating Margarine as margarine tends to have Hydrogenated Oils and a Higher Calorie count. In fact just about ANYTHING labeled as Low Fat is actualy High Calorie.

Do you also supplement with zinc and magnesium? Those go hand in hand with D3 and are also necessary. I live in a legal for medicinal or recreation cannabis state and I know that it helps as well.

Funny you should mention that.

I am still denied access to such a dispensary here in IL, however, my MD is willing to prescribe Cesamet which is WAY better than what I was asked to take before by a pain management specialist (100 mcg/hr Fentanyl) - she tells me it would be a lot cheaper to just buy some cannabis or grow my own (was not joking), except for the fact that it's still illegal and I doubt that even her expert medical testimony would get me off the hook if I get caught with it, so I'm stuck with the Cesamet.

I prefer the Cesamet over the opioids because they last longer, do not turn me into a zombie, and do not horribly exacerbate my GI issues making me even sicker like the Fentanyl did. Rarely I might take an oxycodone for break-through pain. (As an aside, after having taken Cesamet for a while I'm not exactly sure where all the hysteria surrounding cannabis is coming from, I was nervous to try it since the way people talk you'd think it was the devil incarnate however I'm inclined to label the Fentanyl as such having been prescribed both.)

As far as other supplements go, I see a dietician at regular intervals at the CF clinic who monitors my blood tests & what not and makes adjustments or recommendations based on what comes up that I'm missing. I know that they don't want me taking those blanket mega-supplement multi-vitamins but I'm due for another quarterly visit coming up and I'm going to make it a point to ask if the zinc and magnesium will help. I remember reading potassium also helps for certain things but one can overdo it so I've been following the minimalist path.

I'm glad that it works for you. Nothing but reefer madness when it comes to cannabis, it's the best medicine in the world. Google Granny Storm Crow, she has an impressive list of studies on all the ailments it can treat, including migrain headaches, IBS, cancer, Chrohns disease etc.........

Once upon a time, we were able to get most if not all of our nutrients from food, unfortunately those days are long gone and for most it's a necessity to supplement.

Which vitamin D are you taking, hopefully it's the vitamin D3 and not the prescription D2, our bodies utilize the D3 better. But if you don't have enough magnesium, then your body will not absorb the D3 properly either. Zinc is also necessary for magnesium to be absorbed properly.

It would be so much easier to grow our own foods again and trade with neihbors at the farmers market for what they grow. Such is life.........................................................

That number seems almost unimaginable, until you go to the grocery store, or the superstore of your choosing (walmart, target...ect) and look around at all of the people. One can easily see that a frightening number of people are not close to a reasonable weight.

Dont believe me? Well i was in the same boat as many Americans not so long ago, just over a year. 6' and over 300lbs because i was just plain lazy. Junk food, tv and sodas. Now I'm 220, stronger, more muscular, more fit, more endurance than ever.

But according to some height/weight charts, I would be considered obese, which certainly is not the case.

So what gives? I would love to hear some intelligent insight on this subject matter!

Yes you are obese according to medical standards you could use to lose 15lbs or so, and also you seemed to be stress, so why don't you relax more and stop worrying about others.

I grew up in a very rural area, similar to what you describe, stands were up at a couple busy intersections and the farms were just down the road a bit anyways, and a meat packing plant would run full-page ads in the paper selling hamburger meat, entire cows, and everything in between. It was great.

sucks that you have CF.

But, yes I can rail on these "people" i used to be 190, great shape, great body. then i ballooned up to 300. Now i am once again in the process of getting back to my old self, only 20 lbs away now. SO, excuse me, i have earned that right. Losing the weight is a lot harder than gaining it

Primary causes of obesity in the American population-
* Culture of huge proportions.
* High fructose, in fact too much fructose (fruit sugar) we mostly need glucose. Glucose does not store into fat like fructose.

* Artificial sugar of any kind- aspartame, stevia etc.

* Milk products- No grown person needs hormone laden milk from another animal.
I have told people to give up milk, some of them have lost 30-40 pounds without any other changes in their diets in a few months.
* Myth of protein - Plants give you enough protein, there is no need to eat huge quantities of meat. Personally only 5% of my diet is animal products.
