You are correct TheAnswer. My friend the Priest is going to review the original text in the language it was initially written to fully decipher the usage of renounce.

He did share with me that there is absolutely no Biblical or Roman Catholic significance to February 28.

870 – The Fourth Council of Constantinople closes.
1066 Westminster Abbey opens
1692 Salem witch hunt begins
1759 Pope Clement XIII allows Bible to be translated into various languages
1784 – John Wesley charters the Methodist Church.
1922 – The United Kingdom ends its protectorate over Egypt through a Unilateral Declaration of Independence.
1933 – Gleichschaltung: The Reichstag Fire Decree is passed in Germany a day after the Reichstag fire.
1953 – James D. Watson and Francis Crick announce to friends that they have determined the chemical structure of DNA; the formal announcement takes place on April 25 following publication in April's Nature (pub. April 2).
1991 – The first Gulf War ends.
1993 – Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents raid the Branch Davidian church in Waco, Texas with a warrant to arrest the group's leader David Koresh. Four BATF agents and five Davidians die in the initial raid, starting a 51-day standoff.
1995 Denver International Airport opens
1997 – GRB 970228, a highly luminous flash of gamma rays, strikes the Earth for 80 seconds, providing early evidence that gamma-ray bursts occur well beyond the Milky Way.

Christian Feast Day:
Abercius (martyr)
Hilarius
Mar Abba
Oswald of Worcester
Romanus of Condat

Traditionally, Pope's don't resign due to ill health, so you have to wonder... Since the last one resigned 600 years ago due to a civil war, most have passed the baton from their deathbed. That's why the questions about this decision.

No conspiracy, just a major historic event... More importantly, we could be witnessing the fulfillment of prophecies here, and among those are a very dark, chaotic and devastating period for all of humanity.

Whether you believe or not, have faith or none... This is a historic event.

The true importance remains to be seen.

What's significant about the date is that it's the last day of the month.
That means not so much hassle to make his last pay check (as opposed to resigning a few days in the next month).

Administrative convenience

Ha! That's pretty damn funny.

Not sure if you meant it to be or not, but it struck me just right (and pretty logical at the same time.)

What an awkward day. I had a dream last night and all I can remember from it is " today is an important day". So I do my morning ritual and then I turn on the computer to find 11:11 on the clock (it's actually much earlier, comp crashed and reset the time) and then I read this pope resigning news and then I see the OP's avatar name "theAnswer1111" . I'm not religious at all but I must admit this malachi prophecy, the resignation of the pope in the year of the brightest comet....just before easter.....two months after the fabled mayan date

I dunno, I hope this day is not the start of somethig as important as my gut suggests it is.

This thread may be of interest to you and the OP..

Apparently it's actually March 21, 2013

It's a thread that says that dec 21 2012 should have actually been March 21st 2013..

St. Malachy wasn't a prophet. There is no divine revelation from God for the ordination of the Pope - otherwise the Bible would still be in the process of being written. Revelation explicitly tells us that there will be nothing further added.

St. Malachy's prophecy, among others, are used for direction by the Holy See. These man-made prophecies are treated as a divination. They do their best to follow these prophecies because they believe these writers to be inspired by God.

Anyone can offer up their own prophecy and then do their best to fulfill it - that is the essence of our God given free will. We are in the image of the creator in this sense. The sin is allowing someone else's 'divination' to guide our direction, because it is the exact opposite of free will - it's called possession. That is demonic.

The powers that be realize the fallacy of these fake divinations - that is why the Vatican has lost much of its credibility in the recent 60 to 80 years. Pretty soon, they will cease to be as the Governments distribute their possessions in a series of litigations and public condemnation.

The television stations (here in Sicily/Italy) are all running ‘Special’ News reports with lots of mixed reactions.
The word ‘courageous’ seems to be the catch phrase tagged on the announcement - though I would decline to agree the Papa is being courageous - not that I’m to judge or should.

One thing each channel/announcer seems to stumble over and/or mention in specifics is the Papa is quoting the exact moment he’ll ‘stop’ being the Pope. It’s a puzzlement to everyone.

. I’m going to spend some time poking around history and prophecies to see if there’s any significance to Feb. 28th 20:00.

Could this be in relation??

On 1 March (the month named for Mars), Romans honored both Mars and the New Year with special rites (feriae Martis). This was the beginning of the Roman year from the period of kings through most of the Roman Republic.

About.com

This is Rome we are talking about after all.. It's right before the New year 13... Is the last pope supposed to be a warring pope? Mars might get honored in ways I won't like..

Next to Jupiter, Mars enjoyed the highest honours at Rome. Mars was considered the father of Romulus, who built the walls of Rome. The war god also protected farmers and herdsmen, and sometimes used the title Silvanus.

March, the month of Mars, possessed a succession of festivals dedicated to the god of war and protector of growth. On 1 March the sacred flame in the shrine of Vesta was relit, and the homes of priests and other sacred buildings were decorated with laurel branches, a tree always associated with Mars. On 14 March there was horse racing in the massive Campus Martius, to which the Roman citizenry thronged. On 23 March holy war trumpets were purified.

Answers.com

I'm just making random connections that seem like they could be related.. No one should take this as truth. K?

Big news!

The end of days is upon us and that's obvious. Get ready for the American economy to crash taking down much of the worlds economy. Obama will declare a state of emergency and his executive orders will start to kick in.

The Pope resigning is just another signal that the end is near. Religions have talked about the end and even prophets who weren't religious talked about the end of days.

With technology increasing, man has a 50-50 chance of destroying itself. I put the odds even higher. Men and Women want to rule and control others. It's just our nature. As the world becomes more interconnected these people will use technology like Drones and tracking your whereabouts to control you. In America, were one big event away from this and it's sad people will not see it coming even though it's obvious.

I do think there is potential significance to the date.
A new Pope may be choosen no sooner than 15 and no later than 28 days after the last.
28 Days later is Holy Thursday. The start of the big weekend.
The first calendar I looked at gave me Good Friday. That was a bigger deal in my opinion...so do they count the 28 from the day he leaves or the first day without a Pope???

"The day of Christ's death is the day of sin. The sin which polluted God's creation from the breaking dawn of time reached its frightful climax on the hill of Golgotha. There, sin and evil, destruction and death came into their own. Ungodly men had Him nailed to the Cross, in order to destroy Him. However, His death condemned irrevocably the fallen world by revealing its true and abnormal nature."

source

I was always taught that Holy (Good) Friday is basically the day that yes, we were saved, but that God is essentially absent from the world leading up to the Holiest day of the year. That Friday and the next day are the only two days of the year in which there is no celebration of the eucharist.

In likely less relevant timing it is within 24 hours of the full moon.

Take if for what it is but it feels potentially important to me as does his stepping down in the first place

* This is just IMO and what I feel *

I would guess he's resigning and it will be the end of organized religion. One could only hope. Then people could finally figure out their spiritual selves without the controlling factors religion places on them, externally.

The game is over, the Papal Bulls have been replaced with the (disallowed discussion point) filings as a perfected superior trust, and this move changes the game and the Vatican doesn't want to play anymore.

it is possible that this 'last' Pope can be elected Pope
or begin the start of his Papal reign on hitlers birthday... sounds eerie, dark, sinister huh

there is a lot of stuff about the 28 feburary terminatio of Pope Benedict 16th, ans a mini-profile on the Cardinal that is the mosdt talked about successor that has a name of Peter and being a dark skinned man which touches on the quiet forecasts of the supposed 'Black Pope' at the end-of-the-Age...

another weird thing is that the linked text, speaks of Pope Celestine V quitting, and that's what Dante's Inferno is about...
i recall reading the New Age book called the Celestine Prophecies back in the 1990s

the term/name Celestine is thought provoking, at least to me.... perhaps Celestine... Celestial or something relating to Cosmic is what is a hidden sychronicity being played out here with the next Pope...

i am bound to find sometrhing hidden or occult about this transfer of power if i keep poking around, huh

And, here is a Cardinal that is up for the replacement of the current Pope. Cardinal Peter Turkson. From what I read he is an advocate for Global Public Authority and Global Bank. Fullfilling prophecy, we'll have to wait and see. I've known about the St. Malachy prophecies for years and the resignation of Benedict and a 'hopeful new Pope' named Peter coming into play really catches my ears and eyes.

After watching my predecessor die in office, after overseeing so many controversies and attempting to fix them, after dealing with hatred for my past even though Jesus and Christianity are about forgiveness for past sins, I would want to resign when I felt too ill or old, too.

And so would you.

I will reiterate what I said earlier. Religion is like politics, and when a prominent figure suddenly retires without reason you can expect a scandal around the corner. That way the blame can be firmly placed on the person who was previously in charge without disrupting the present order. The hasty announcement, and the date being only a few weeks away, points to this.

You guys are Aware of the Prophecy of the 112 Popes?

Supposedly there was a Saint who predicted all the next 112 Popes with descriptions about them, and said that after 112th pope arrives and serves, is when the Anti-Christ also comes into the picture.

[Prophecy of Popes Wiki

The prophecy says, that Benedict (who is resigning) is number 111, which means the next Pope will be 112.
