What Owen Patterson is badly failing to explain (or has been badly misinterpreted) is that due to the treaties and agreements that we have signed up to, you cannot simply ban imports from fellow EU member countries. This is a sensible position as it takes away the temptation for unfair tariffs and trade bans.

If we think there is a problem with this meat (which obviously there is, EU wide) then it has to be dealt with through the proper channels and discussed in the EU Parliament before decisions are made.

What he is basically saying is that it isn't possible to simply ban it, without incurring huge fines (that can be imposed daily). There are lots of things to both defend and attack the EU about. The important thing is to not simply believe the spin that the media likes to put on a story.

When was the last time a nuclear power got land invaded again? Or a Permanent UN member? When was the last time a NATO member got attacked? Given we (against all initial expectations in both cases) kicked the Germans assess (so be it at great cost to ourselves) in both the first and second world wars and in the first world war prevented a European world hungry German Empire, and in the second weakened one of the world’s most evil regimes empires ever (Nazi Germany) I would not be calling German political culture (especially over foreign policy) superior in any way whatsoever. Indeed many of the most undemocratic aspect of the European Union can be directly traced to German & French Europhile MEPS and domestic politicians.

Secondly: You think we should be part of the European Union-Empire because if we don’t we might get invaded by a foreign power that takes and decides how to spend our money, and interferes with our sovereign politics. Well guess what this is also the main reason for leaving the EU…

This is what I mean when I say the EU parliament is self-serving, highly immoral, and imperialistic organisations. It would not surprise me if the French and German politicians in particular, have a room full of girls they can abuse in the European parliament when the camera is not rolling.

Did you know what drugs can be used on horses that are not intended for human comsumption? Any drug the owner wants that the Vet will prescript. Many horses are given a pain killer called Bute, which has been banned for human use for many years. If it is used on a horse and the horse is killed, Bute remains in its system and then gets into the food chain.

At least there are some regulations about the welfare and treatment of animals that are typically eaten in the UK.

Eating horsemeat is not the issue here, it is can issue of food labeling. If I puchase a product which says it contains beef, I expect beef, not horse meat, lamb, pork or any other meat product. If I purchase a meat based product, and it is labeled as horse, then the choice is mine.

On the issue of leaving the EU, I favour the UK people being given the option to tell our Government what kind of relationship we want with Europe. I am in favour of a return the economic community that Britian first joined and having free trade across Europe.

I do not want Europeans tell me how I can live. If Britain wants to kill murderers, rapists and the like, that should be an decision for the British people not some European.
