What do you guys think the chances of Jeb Bush running for president in 2008 are?

I know he's said he won't but a Bush-Clinton 2008 election could be pretty interesting.

There is so much talk on the democratic ticket in 08 that nothing really about the republicans. All we hear these days is Clinton, perhaps Obama (who doesnt even have a senate seat yet). I dont think Jeb could get the nomination, especially if McCain runs again which is a possibility. Any word on Guliani running anytime soon for anything, or is he done?

Not too sure about Giuliani, he might be too honest
. If Jeb runs in 2008, though, it could be a 16 year Bush presidency!

As I've stated elsewhere, I believe that any family having more than two family members in the White House in a span of 50 years is dangerous. Not only would they start believing that they're entitled to power, but people in the Republican party would start seeing it as natural to have a Bush as a candidate.

Furthermore, if a third Bush were to accede to the Presidency in '08, power would coalesce around the Bush family. Two former Presidents would have a say in policy, as well as, very possibly, some people who have gravitated in the orbit of both Bush presidents - Dick Cheney, James Baker and Donald Rumsfeld, among others. At the very least, it prevents the healthy turnover that a new presidency can provide.

And by the way, I would say the same thing if we were talking about the Roosevelts or the Kennedys.

Doesn't the Republican party have any star material, any talent other than the Bushes?

The GOP is trying to arrange for Arnold (girlieman) Schwarzenegger to be the next president......but Arnold has already stated that he wants to be the "dictator of the world" , so unless the position represents both he may not be interested.

so your saying that the GOP would put a Black female in a race against a strong left hilary clinton? i think that would be the first scenario where a 3rd party gets more than 10% of the vote ever lol.

the only way imo jeb could run is if bush wins again... a kerry win right now would kill it. my guess would be McCain, hes already let bush go ahead of him so he could get the party backing.

Chris McGee - People forget that 2008 is a long time away and that anything can happen. Nobody in November 1972 could have thought that the Democratic contender in 1976 would be Jimmy Carter and that he would run on a platform of not lying to the American people. Nixon favored John Connelly to run for the Republicans, and thought Edmund Muskie would run for the Democrats.

Same thing in 1992 - few, after Dukakis' defeat in 1988, thought that Bill Clinton would be the candidate four years later.

Are you saying that Hillary is strong and left, or strongly left?

Are you saying that Condi would not win because she is black?

I propose this would be an excellent time to see a black woman make it to the Oval Office, by running one that is respected in the nation against a woman who is not as respected, and in many, many circles, not trusted.

If clinton runs, the GOP wins. It's as simple as that.

She could be the most unliked person in all of American politics.

American MadMan - More than Richard Nixon? More than Herbert Hoover, who just let the Depression drag on without doing anything? More than James Buchanan, who appeased the South while the Civil war was getting into high gear?

That's a bit harsh, don't you think?

What are Rices views on social issues (gay marriage, abortion etc .)?
Because if they are in line with traditional republican views should would have a good chance in a run for the white house.

I doubt that Jeb will be a canidate. I am going to be on either John McCain, Colin Powell, or Rudy Giuliani for Republican Canidate in 2008, but who knows another star could rise in the Republican party in the next four years.

Well, I was speaking of current politics, but... I would say yes, she could be the most disliked EVER. She is a bitch pure and simple.

I mean, could you honestly see her in the White House? Me thinks no - at least as president.

American Madman - you're entitled to your opinion, of course.

As for me, I think the main reason people think she's a bitch is because she's assertive and was assertive as First Lady.
