Well you become indiginous to a land once you have adapted to live off that land...

didn't the colonials learn how to do that? i mean they grew corn, churned butter, baked bread, dug the wells, built houses out of trees and stones, etc?edit on 6-2-2013 by liverlad because: (no reason given)
It is all you Europeans fault anyway.

There is no archaeological evidence Native Americans have been here for hundreds of thousands of years. None. In fact, they aren't even the original inhabitants of the continent. Don't just take my word for it, do a little research.
"Eskimos have evolved to endure the cold; thicker blood, darker skin pigment to absorbs heat, and their bodies retain more body fat on their torsos to protect vital organs (whereas most North Americans store fat around our waists and butts).....their bodies are built differently. They have been living in the cold longer so their bodies have become shorter and stockier so that they retain more heat. Also, they have developed other ways to stay warm through their warm cloths and housing. These are not just Physical changes....they have anatomically, physiologically evolved to sustain Cold"
How long do you think it took for them to adapt to Alaska like that? A few thousand years?edit on 6-2-2013 by liverlad because: (no reason given)
I'm aware that we are not 100% sure on who was in the Americas first, but that is a totally different topic that could warrent it's own thread. All i am saying is that the Native Americans of today have more of a claim of being "indigenous" to that land than the more recent European settlers because they have been there for a long time and have adapted to living off that land.

In my opinion, having "evolved" to their environment is completely irrelevant to the argument that Native Americans are not the original inhabitants or North America. Just because a lot of time has passed does not indemnify them of the fact that they took the land from someone else.
I totally respect your thoughts here, but encourage you to look up Kennewick Man. He is non Native American and found with a Native American spear tip embedded in his thigh. There's a lot of articles out there to choose from on him, do a google search if you get some time.

this is one of my favorite native americans
Russell Means, the Lakota activist and founder of the American Indian Movement (AIM), has strongly rejected Native American in favor of Indian:
I abhor the term Native American. It is a generic government term used to describe all the indigenous prisoners of the United States. These are the American Samoans, the Micronesians, the Aleuts, the original Hawaiians, and the erroneously termed Eskimos, who are actually Upiks and Inupiats. And, of course, the American Indian.
I prefer the term American Indian because I know its origins . . . As an added distinction the American Indian is the only ethnic group in the United States with the American before our ethnicity . . . We were enslaved as American Indians, we were colonized as American Indians, and we will gain our freedom as American Indians, and then we will call ourselves any damn thing we choose.
"I am an American Indian, Not a Native American!"

Sorry, that's a load of bullcrap, what he said was 100% fact and the protesters knew it.

He looks big size, healthy and fat before his demise. If that's what he derisively label being a free american citizen as being a prisoner, I am sure many Somalians or Mexicans would gladly take his place.
He has no honor and is a traitor to his ancestors and people living in free america.edit on 6-2-2013 by SeekerofTruth101 because: (no reason given)

Would you call a 8 yr old Asian kid born to parents that came in 2005, a native? i doubt it, you will probably think twice.
