I agree, 100%

Jobs are gone, and are not coming back for a long time.

Not only gone but still going. I do not see a fix.

Unless there is a war or a plague or a major mega natural disaster that wipes out oooh let's say a billion people.

Maybe the 2013 comets will sort a few things out....

The fix is a reset of society. There will be a mentally deficient slave class subordinate to an elite transhuman or posthuman class.

Don't hold your breath waiting to get the invite to the transhumanist party. Those seats are taken.

Follow the money trail and I bet you that it is being funneled into someones personal account that works for gov. 56 billion dollars is a hell of a lot of money. You could build a city for that with housing and all.

If you're working for McD's at minimum wage you're not saving money. On your own you're living paycheck to paycheck. Even if you can save money something happens car breaks down or fall ill and guess what? That puny amount of money is gone in a flash.

Whatever reset is due, pretty sure we will be involved somewhere, somehow.

Mcdonalds provides career opportunities. It takes a specific person to work at mcdonalds.

People who earn 100'K per year can still live hand to mouth.

But isn't that how early man would have lived?

I agree the amount of money the US or Britain, Germany etc give as foreign aid does seem a huge amount of money that could be better spent sorting out domestic problems. The old adage that charity begins at home sadly does not apply when it comes to foreign aid budgets. Most rich countries give a proportion of their GDP as aid regardless of the actual amount involved. The proportions may vary slightly but as a consequence the countries with the larger GDP's will contribute the most. The fact that the US has so many domestic problems merely highlights how a country with the highest GDP in the world can also have one of largest underclass of socially deprived citizens.

2 billion in need, 700 billion for weapons.

That is, 2 billion people in the world are in incomparable bad environmental conditions.
And 698 billion $ were spent 2011 in the US alone for the military budget.

Keep the assessment neutral would have been my advice, but I am not responsible for that kind of thing, I guess

The country cannot stop functioning because lazy folk can't get off their asses and improve their situations.

That foreign aid money buys us influence.

If you give poor countries money, they will just waste it and end up poor again.

Our citizens cannot stop functioning because lazy leaders in other countries can't get off their asses and improve their situations.

That domestic aid could buy us national pride and human dignity.

People should be marching in the streets in every city. Yet they are not. Why?

Good question, why aren't you?

There is a saying that goes: To make money you have to spend money.

This is exactly what government aid is all about.

Pointing the finger does not answer the question.

Of course... why spend the money here. The govt. can't keep it thumb on the poor any other way. The govt. gives just enough to keep people in check and to ensure their dependence on the govt.... The same reason they dole out billions in foreign aid. Decades of foreign aid packages do more to grease the palms of foreign govts than to help the people under the thumb of those govts as well...

Quite the circle...

Early man could sleep and settle where ever he wanted. He took food from wherever it grew. He took resources from wherever he found them. His job was living off the land which simply isn't possible in a world where every piece of land is owned and controlled. Same goes for America in it's first 100 years.

The ignorance of people who say live like they did in 1800 and everything will be ok, when in fact it is impossible for most people to do so. .

This country is made up of people like you and me, the stereotype that the poor are perpetually poor because they are lazy and wasteful is just that, a stereotype; most poor people are victims of a cruel and apathetic system.

Its all about self interest. The homeless dont contribute, while the receivers of our foriegn aid money must be benefiting the man somehow to be a receiver in the first place.

Self interest. No one cares for his fellow man.

I got a job at Mcdonalds and it took me two days. Dropped off the application and they called right back. Worked there for about a month and quit.

Its not hard to find work if you want it. I also got a part-time job picking up trash at a local museum. They hired me on the spot.

Don't tell me that there is no work out there.

There is NOT work out there.. I have worked in many capacities in the past and I am applying everywhere..
I applied to 4 different mcDonalds locations.. Nothing..

I'm on my second interview at Duncan Fing Donuts... Yes they may want me for a third interview some time this week for this highly competitive job (serving coffee).. I'm in a pretty big city too. Back in Boone 500 people applied to "5 guys" when it opened with 20 spots available. 700 people applied to Mellow Mushroom when that opened a little bit earlier..

I'm in Raleigh and still jobs are hard to come by.. I don't want to keep hearing bull from people who are not applying to at least 10 places every week..

I got happy recently because it seemed like Duncan donuts would hire me. I had to walk 4 miles to get to the interview, and then 4 miles back.. I was in the Army. I have drive. the jobs just don't exist. My friends who went to college are working at places like chick fil a.. I guess since I don't have a college degree yet, I'm not qualified compared to the 100 people also applying to Mcdonalds who have a masters?

I've also been homeless. Do you think getting a job anywhere is easy when you are homeless? where do you tell them to send your W-2.. You tell them you live behind that Mexican restaurant that gives you food? No!

OP is right. Let's fix America before we go spreading our sickness across the world. Let's feed our own.

56 billion is over 1 billion per state. If there are 10 million homeless people that's $5,600 dollars per year, per person... This could change lives... And then America would all be working.. Then we could switch our focus to overseas, to those ASKING for our help.. And Leave everyone else alone..

I disagree that we buy influence directly.

What we do is create dependents. Both domestically and abroad.

In any park in america there are signs that say "Pease do not feed the animals. The animals will grow dependent on the handouts and then they will never learn to take care of themselves".

What happens when generations of people are fed by the government?

Answer: Crime..

All government money should have attached to it counselors and Job finders.. Why put people inside concrete slabs when we could give them books instead? Government money doesn't have to be creating dependents as long as you are teaching someone to fish while giving them a fish..

I'd rather do that than support 2.5 million people in jail for 4 times my girlfriends yearly pay per person.

People getting food stamps should have people in the government to talk to and be advised from.. They should be looking for work.. This is not the right time to be starting most businesses though, so, new jobs won't be flowing in very fast..

Tupac warned about this in relation to the black communities.
If we don't take care of our communities who will? If we don't take care of our communities we create monsters. The people are our only strength, so lets fix the body of America. Doctors want to cut out the "cancer" and I think a lot of people have viewed the situation that way.. The cancer isn't people, it's the situation.

This is all in relation to the money government ALREADY spends.. I would like to see government be smaller, and it can only get smaller as fast as people pick up the slack the government is holding.. I have become a conservative even though I grew up democrat hippy.. I have this weird hybrid idea that we should be working towards conservatism and small government, but along the way we need to support people and help them to come with us.. We can't just do it all at once, remove the safety net and watch our country fall to anarchy. It's a process.

I wish more people in government understood calculus rather than algebra.. Then they could see the process, not the variables.. The whole outcome, not the details.. The whole TRUTH, not the BS.
