So you're saying that the country has become like those old westerns, where everyone in town carries a firearm so that they can protect themselves from outlaws? Is that your view of it? Didn't we escape from that scenario by having police departments run by citizens in our towns and neighborhoods?

So what happens when another law abiding citizen carrying a gun spots this guy in the car park pulling out his rifle and spare clips from the boot of his car and thinks he's just spotted a guy about to go on a shooting spree and shoots him?
Oh the irony, it burns.

america is a republic
A republic IS a representative democracy.
Why do so many not know that?
A distinct set of definitions for the word republic evolved in the United States. In common parlance a republic is a state that does not practice direct democracy but rather has a government indirectly controlled by the people.

can't agree with your mean-spirited statement ... but i do now wonder, since the statement is a foundation in the Freudian philosophy, how would that be implemented in Obama's 'mental health' checks ??

Problem is I have never met a police officer I could carry in my pocket. But I can carry a gun in my pocket. Police respond after a crime has been committed they are rarely there to prevent one.

Says who?
Someone driving the car to get to point A and B, or the Guy who purposely runs someone over ?
Anything can be used as kill. A guns main purpose is to kill, or to sit on a shelf all day.
But you're making a ridiculous argument.
Yes anything can be used to kill, so I guess we should just allow people to have any kind of weapon they want eh? We should just make it easier for people to kill, because they could use anything anyway?
